Any idea how long that price is gonna last on Amazon?

I dunno... but what does this say about the future of Rift?

Have they made back their initial investment with sales already, so now they're focused on subs?

    Were initial sales just low?

Were initial sales high enough, but now they're looking to "fix" the problem with empty servers?

Or is it just a sale?

rift is bleeding subscribers it seems, a free trial, and a huge price reduction all in the space of a few months from launch. what does that tell you?

    Not necessarily.

It could be argued they want to aggressively grab younger players since school is out for most around this time  It makes even more sense when you look at the price reduction that way.

Well, Amazon has them listed back around a regular price.  $40 for regular and $50(digital) or $75(hardcopy) for collector's edition.

Anyone have any links to the sites with the game on sale?

I have some spare time on my hands while I recover from a cardiac procedure and I can't seem to get back into my SOE games.  I was suprised to see how much I enjoyed the game while playing the free trial despite having hated the game and being bored to death in the three beta phases I took part in.

Yeah i was just waiting when Mr.Doomer will post in this topic. Everytime a new MMO slashes prices its dying or bleeding subs, what are the chances that company is trying to grab more players through sales?

I have to agree with MrDoomer on this. What other MMO's have there been that lowered their price that quick? Only Champions online and Star Trek online, and we know how those are doing at the moment...

Aside from that, right before the 1st month of 'free' sub is over TRIOn already had 2 weekends of free trial. Not one MMO has handed out free trials that early after release. Either this means that RIFT does really good and they know to get more players with a free trial (something I really doubt) or they are desperate to boost sales and give the free trials away to get ppl to see RIFT and buy it.

Now with the half price of the client I can only conclude that RIFT sales are not as expected and they hope to sell more boxes (and get subscribers from them).

Yeah, RIFT might have failed. At least it did for me ;-)

Almost every MMO i can think of has gotten free trials up within the first few months of launch.. They are trying to get subs will the hype is high.. Trion is not afraid of getting their product out there, i mean what other company held 4-5 weekend long betas open for everyone? I think Trion has aggressivley tried to get as many MMO players to try their game as quick as possible from the get go, so it shouldn't surprise everyone that they are offering up all these free trials and such..

Man.. Game must be failing cuz its advertising.. Now it must be failing because the increasing popularity of it's free trials? Funny stuff..

I could care les what other games did but since i play Rift i know that it is not due to RIFT bleeding too many subs or dying. As far as sales are concrned every MMO does it, now whether they do it in beginning or later depends upon the company.

24.99 still not worth it in my opinion, better off just buying a used console game.

I bought it because it was really fun during the betas, but since I've hit endgame it feels like more of a chore than anything (and with the obscene experience rate you hit endgame far too quickly just playing as intended). Sometimes I log in on the weekends for a few warfronts on lower level toons but otherwise it's a very, very dull game. The poster above me is correct in advising a console game instead.

I don't understand how everyone lvls so quickly.. I try to play atleast 1 or 2 a day for about 1-2hrs each time and i'am on my 3rd sub month and lv 45.. It's taken me a few days to lvl from 43-45.. By this time i was alrdy lvl 50 on AION and ppl said that game took forever to hit max lvl.. I do a little bit of everything (besides dungeons which i don't do often but still do with guild) from warfronts, invasions, crafting, to quest chains..

But i guess if you're just in it for pvping then yeah the game isn't that great imo.. Hopefully some world pvp stuff get's added later.
