Hi all,
My wife and I are going to give Rift a go, but my wife is overwhelmed with the Soul options.
Any quick tips for how to build a DAoC-like Friar? That is, a meleer (not armored up, per se, but evasive) with fun chains/combos who can also heal on the side?
Thanks!

the calling would be rogue
the soul you're looking for would be " Bladedancer" lots of the talent stuff are based on Dodge/Parry. But there are still so many options that u can go for a secondary soul, riftstalker has self heal and also bard is like a support/semi healing class ..here is just so much to chose from which is great. IT really depends on how she wants to play . If you give me more info and tell me if its for pvp or pve i can help you more. you get 5 roles on rift. so u can have 5 builds basically. so there is alot of space to play around with diffrent specs.
Play Dark Age of Camelot?
Seriously though why try and fit another games' classes into a totally different game?
Maybe they are tired of DAOC but his wife loves playing a friar???? Kudos to the poster that tried to help and boo to you negative soul.
Thanks for the help, everyone (well, almost everyone)!
I've been having a blast, learning the playstyle's of many of the souls. As you've mentioned, I can't quite find the Friar, and that's fine. I expect that. I just want to get a bit closer to it.
I've tired a Riftblade, and it's close. However, the Rogue mechanic of building up points (like WoW's Rogue), it not Friar-like, and in fact really has no relation to chaining abilities.
I guess I'm looking for chains (do this ability so you can do this ability so you can then do this ability), AND/OR reactives (use this ability only after a dodge/parry/block).
I simply don't think there are any chains in Rift (please say so if there are!), but surely there are reactives. Can anyone suggest a melee class with at least a couple/few reactive abilities?
Appreciate the help!
Yeah , I understand combo building is diffrent but imo bladedancer is as close as u can get to dodge stuff atleast. here is some talents. ( too lazy to put them in a tier order xD)
Disengage - A deceptive attack that stuns the enemy for 4 seconds. This attack never misses, and cannot be parried or dodged. Usable after parrying or dodging an enemy's attack. Awards 1 Combo Point.
Reprisal ( Rank 1 )- A powerful attack that deals weapon plus 23 to 26 Physical damage. This attack never misses, and cannot be parried or dodged. Usable after parrying or dodging an enemy's attack. This ability is not affected by global cooldown. Awards 1 Combo Point.
Contra Tempo - Whenever you parry or dodge an attack, there is a 100% chance of gaining an advantage, causing your next Combo Point generating damage attack to gain an additional Combo Point on your enemy.
Turn the tide - Whenever you parry or dodge an attack, you deal 10% more damage for the next 10 seconds.
Strike Back - You have a 100% chance to strike back at your enemy with both weapons when you dodge an attack.
There is also whole chain of abilities that you are able to use after Keen strike... as you get higher.( Dont really rely on dodging tho )
and there are also abilities that help you have more dodge chance of course , lol i dont want to tell you what to play , if you're having fun with riftblade maybe you should just stick to it and get used to the new system ... xD just giving you info so later on you dont be like " Omg i should have done this or that "
Oh man, scorp, that's an awesome list. I definitely am going to roll a Bladedancer right now and check it out. I think my wife will love it.
I've been giving a Paragon/Champ build a go, and am enjoying it, too, but again, it's...different. Not bad, but different. It feels a bit like a DAoC Merc, which I found fun, but not so much my wife.
I really appreciate the tips. Cheers.
Friar was the only class I ever played on Albion that got to 50. I miss that class too I was too addicted to MIdgard though lol. Shaman/Justicar/Warden is sort of Friar-like, but not really the same. Instead of dodge you just outright tank the damage.
I so miss Stun, Side attack, Back attack, Win, repeat lol
yeah , np bro. if you needed more info on souls and such , you can ask me anytime... atm my lappy is down and im in middle of deployment so i may not know about every lil recent update since i cant login in the game...but i kno alot about the rogues in rift atleast. that's the only archtype class i play in every mmo lol.
