EVE Online: Agents Made Easy

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The CCP EVE Online developer blog has been updated with a new post titled "Agents Made Easy". Agent changes are already deployed and Singularity and are scheduled to debut on Tranquility very soon. The post gives a lot of information about forthcoming changes.

Now, all agents in the game will have an effective quality of both -20 and +20: That is, in terms of calculating access to an agent based on your standings with his or her corporation, the system will assume that all agents are quality -20, making them (in some cases, considerably) easier to access; and at the same time, every agent will pay out rewards as if he or she had a quality of +20, meaning all agents of the same level within the same system security level (e.g., 0.6) will pay out the same amount for similar missions - and in most cases, they will pay out somewhat more than they used to.

Yeah, I just read that and was on my way back to correct myself, incidentally. Sorry about that. Massively misled me.

Is this an attempt to dumb the game down for a bigger crowd?

  • stokkerstokker Member UncommonPosts: 10

In few words, this is a dumbing down of MONUMENTAL proportions.

Have to disagree with that statement.  Major improvement of a poorly designed system within the game.

You now will have far less grind to get to a level 4 agent with any faction.  This will open up a lot of level 4 agents that were here to for not very usable with high negative numbers.

If you can't understand what a good thing that is, well that is your loss.

I'm not sure I agree. The agent quality thing sounded good, but in practice, it was trivial to go from standings for worst to best quality within a level. So everyone just ends up with +20 standings anyway, and then concentrates at the few "optimal" agents. Leading to heavily overcrowded mission hubs, with the vast majority of agents being completely unused.

Now the optimal agents will be in the lowest security systems, so there will be at least a correlation between agent reward and risk of being ganked.

This should lead to a smoothing out of the MR population, and will at least present the MR with some kind of genuine risk:reward choice rather than a "duh, obvious" best agent for any given corp/faction.

I dont see how this is a "monumental" dumbing down. It's the elimination of a complexity that added nothing. CCP could have dreamed up some to to make that complexity mean something, but they went the rationalisation route instead. I'd rather they fucused their efforts on the missions themselves tbh, since they are "monumentally dumbed down".

Me? I'll probably keep my hi sec mission alt in his current 0.6. I prefer a quieter system with a just-below-optimal agent, and it's conveniently placed for other reasons that outweigh that last couple of % points of mission reward.

Wait till they add the Sleeper Ai to missions and you'll get your wish. I believe after that, all you'll want to do is run courier missions.

    This is not a game.

You believe wrong. That would be an awesome change.
