I couldn't wait to get my hands on L.A. Noire as I figured this would would be a game I would really enjoy playing. Man, was I wrong.
Normally, when I play a game that's really good, I can't stop playing it. With this one, I played it a bit then I just stopped and went back to play Show Time, the baseball game. I found Noire pretty humdrum and not exciting enough. It's a one leg at a time type game where everything is just slow and tedious. The story or the game never really pulls you in as it plainly unfolds along never really grasping your real interest.
The games mechanics are not all that smooth either. Plus, there's no real substance in the story line and it jumps from one act to another without any real feel for character growth. I imagine if you're easliy satisfied with less then mediocre game play then this game is for you. But if you rather immerse yourself in a more powerful storyline, then pass on L.A. Noire as it will most definitely disappoint you.
L.A. Noire is all hype and little else.

Did you like RDR and GTA4? I'm still waiting for my copy from Gamefly, but I'm hoping it's on par with those two. After RDR, I did feel like Rockstar might be sticking too closely to the formula they've created, but it still felt like a top notch game. The sandbox shooter probably isn't for everyone though. I love the wide open feel of thier games, but I'm wondering if it just feels aimless to some, or if they really are slipping.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Everything looks awesome but it's too movie to me. I just want to play a game!
LA Noire has very little in common with those games.
sorry i'm not spending 50$ on a "crime story" that i'll play only once. this game is pretty much the same things as Heavy Rain, it was cool once but even then that wasn't worth the money.
I really enjoyed Heavy Rain, which looks to have the same feel. So I really am looking forward to playing this game. Even metacritic, which usually has the average for games really low, has it at a 91 for 360, with 31 critic reviews. So maybe it just isn't your type of game.
Heh, looks like I'll be happy to have only rented this one, then... That's too bad. Maybe it's meant to be a smaller project interim game before GTA5...

I didnt like Heavy Rain so much, but have really enjoyed my run thru on LA Noire.
Part of my issue with HR is that you had to hold a trigger just to move, so the controls were bothersome to me. That is my biggest complaint, as I did enjoy the story for the most part. I guess another thing would be the fact I bought it new for 60, and just over a month later it was half price. Would of been a lot happier with paying 30, as I havent touched the game since I played thru it.
As a side note I suppose it isnt fair not to mention that I hardly ever played my PS3 anyways, and havent now since the hacking began.
I really liked how the story of LAN pieced together. I think I am currently sitting at 31 of 50 acheievements, and will be looking to knock those out as I recover from surgery. Definitely will get my 60 worth out of this one.
Now if we could get a Blu Ray add on for 360 so we dont have to swap discs.....

It's not as sanboxy feeling as GTA4 to me but it's a great game and they moved the genre forward. Maybe it's like Assassin's Creed 1 in this case. There're some great new innovations but the first iteration just doesn't have enough or make enough use of the new mechanics. Maybe. For me, it's great fun so far and was worth the money. I haven't played a game this good since fall. As for a replay: I have no idea. I hardly ever play console games thru again -- even ME3 I didn't bother to run thru a second or third time. It's not my M.O.. That's why I play mmorpgs -- for replays!
I'm actually really enjoying the game. I haven't even gotten that far into it, and I'd give it 8.5 or even a 9. Too bad no one ever thought to do a Law & Order game in a similar way. Not to mention the way they handled faces and lip movement in the game is impressive. Almost feels like I'm looking at a real person talking (and from what I understand thats actually true).
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
Firstly it did recreate a bit too faithfully the tedium that is the majority of police work.
Secondly the main character isn't very sympathetic. This is compounded by the fact that you don't have a lot of say about who your char is or does: You're a straight-arrow bore, goody-two-shoes cop and you investigate crimes, one at a time, with no real option for being good or bad. You can be an unskillful cop, but not a bad one.
Also other than a few specific missteps, like dying, or losing the suspect in a chase, it doesn't seem to matter much how good or bad you do on your investigation. The outcome is predetermined. The only consequence is the amount of xp you get for leveling up. So if in the course of an investigation you ask all the wrong questions and miss all the clues, you'll still successfully solve the case. You just won't get xp for leveling up. Speaking of which, the only benefit I'm aware of for leveling is getting hints on finding clues or asking the right questions, which again, doesn't seem to matter.
Other than investigating one case at a time or handling random street crime, I've yet to come across anything else to do. There are some collection things but they are extras in my book and don't count as real content. The scope of the game seems to be extremely limited... and repetitive.
It's L.A. Confidential: The Video Game!
Still, I love it.
My problem with LA Noire, and I haven't bought it though I was interested since I love Rockstar, is the lack of replayability of the mystery genre. Once you solve a mystery or crime, it's done. From the descriptions, it pretty much sounds like the experience is on rails, similar to reading a novel or watching a movie. The exerience is a slightly meandering one toward a predetermined outcome.
I'm a big GTA fan. I've got all the games, pc and console versions. I loved RDR. The thing that made those games so replayable and so fun was that it was kind of open world. Sure, there was some gating in the world, but once you advanced to a certain point the world opened up and you could get out there and just live. Awesome games. LA Noire I'm not so convinced.
Since your investigating crimes, your choices shouldn't ever change what actually happened. Unless the detective is really poor. So it should be a predetermined outcome. They are based on real life as well.
I believe this game was done designed by the same person that did The Getaway? I may be wrong but I thought i read that somewhere, so the game was never really ment to be about free roaming although you can do a bit of it. Also remember its only published by rockstar, they didn't actually make it.
That assumes the story has to be exclusively about the mysteries being solved. If there were related issues going on the detectives own life, for example if the detective needing to deal with criminals going after him personally, attempting to bribe him, seeking his help, or whatever, the story could have some flexibility to it.

To each their own. As far as I'm concerned I feel like LA Noire has single player game of the year in the bag. The content is so deep and the story really raps me in. I agree that it is one of those games that you can actually put down and that is one of the things I like best about it. It doens't just have a million different, pointless things to check off the box, instead it lays out an interesting criminal case and lets you work it. Because each case is so involved I don't typically have the energy to do 2 in a row, but that's why you got calls you can respond to and other side missions.
My only critique that keeps it from being flawless is the fact that many of the side quests are the typical go find this item type. For example, you have to find badges, movie reels, and places of interest. I feel like maybe they should of taken out the movie reels and instead replaced it with a more interactive type of content. But the main story line is fantastic. Rockstar could take just about anything and turn it to gold.
Did LA Noire release a copy for PC?
I don't believe rockstar made this game. They only published it.
No. And after a year there hasn't even been a mention of plans to release RDR for PC as far as I know.
could not say that better myself RDR was a great game, I love rockstar but if I'm gonna spend that money on a game I want high replay value on a game, LA Noire is a game to rent a good game but not sure I would buy it but I do like the game and I would give it a 9.
L.A. Noire is a video game developed by Team Bondi in conjunction with Rockstar Games[and published by Rockstar Games. It is the biggest game ever made in Australia.
For replayability, it is a shame there wasnt a "clue" mechanic in place(IE Prof Plum in the kitchen this game, Col Mustard in the Library the next game).
I think I have like 4 cases at 5 star lvl now. You need all cases at 5* lvl to unlock a 80 pt cheiv. Havent played since I got my Gall Bladder removed Sat.
If anyone else was emailed a code from Gamestop for the "Piano Gun" for pre-ordering early, did you have a problem with code? Mine didnt work, so I emailed them back. I didnt have a problem with the extra case and badge quest add ons.

Rockstar appears to be a little too worried about piracy. Oh well, I am debating on the PS3 vs Xbox360 version. Anyone have experience with both?
