Sadly I have now seen a great number of examples of bad players that were everywhere in World of Warcraft.
Players who play the game using bad decisions and blame and ego really don't belong in Rift.
Examples are following.
A player from a powerful guild was botting in the warfronts all the time. Botting is where you go into the warfront only for the points and not the try and participate or win. You basically count as a team member but really make your team un-even with the other side so your team loses much easier.
This type of activity seems to be accepted by some guilds and they even chose this player over several others in the guild that pointed it out......kicking those players and keeping this bot player.
Another horrible thing happened just the other night. Since we now have pick-up groups with the LFG random dungeon function I got into a group with some rogues from that same big guild refferenced to earlier. I was tanking and had one of my guild healing. These rogues proceeded to pull mobs and not allow agro (I am a cleric and only have a single target and 7 meter aoe taunt). I mentioned it to them and they just told me to grab agro. This caused 4 deaths from them and 1 wipe since the rogues pulled a second group on us while we were already fighting. Then they started insulting my guild cleric so I told them I was switching to heals and that they could tank (Rogues in Rift can tank quite well if they are geared and know how). So they proceeded to pull and agro bounced everywhere and We healed the main tank but there was obviously no agro and my guild cleric died along with one of the rogues. I switched back to tanker and then we proceeded with less pulls from them and things went smooth until a boss and then they started smack talking again and so we left mid-dungeon run.
Would really be nice if people learned a little respect for others. Just because you are on the computer doesn't give you reason to act like a total jerk.
Unfortunalely this mentality is spreading. I like my games to be fun and challenging...not some ego feeding social battle.

Someone needs to create an 'Asshat Filter'
Sadly, there will always be some percentage of people that just make the game less fun.
So, let me get this straight.
You had a bad experience with members from a specific guild, repeatedly, and somehow that equates to the game being "infested with bad attitudes"?
Sounds like you're forming an opinion of the whole, based on the actions of a few.
PS: Botting is not the same as AFK'ing, you might want to familiarize yourself with the proper term when acusing someone of such actions.
Valve is trying to play around in that space: http://gamepolitics.com/2011/05/16/valve-considers-putting-real-world-value-players
Players like these existed even before WOW. I met some of the biggest elites and ass hats in EQ. I don't remember a single MMO which does not have its share of bad apples. But the worst experinces i had so far in modern MMOS was in EVE online.
Rift community overall is 100 times better.
Rift was made for the majority of mmo players making it accessible and WoW-like.

Why are you surprised?
If you would like to create a thread discussing the community, please do so without attacking whole groups of people based on the game they play. Locking.
