Someones Screwing with Most Popular Game List

username509username509 Member CommonPosts: 635

Right now DAOC has over 31,000 unique hits, but the second place game has just over 8,000 unique hits.  No on has has posted in the DAOC forums for the past two days.  There hasn't been a big front page news article released about DAOC recently.  DAOC hasn't came out with a big patch or anything really new in a long time.  What's going on? Well, someone's screwing with the most popular game list that's what's going on.

It would stand to reason that top voted game list and most popular game list should be fairly similiar as those people who vote for the game would also be a unique hit to that game.  It would also stand to reason that games like WoW, Rift and World of Tanks with there large playerbases would be close to the top of these lists, especially since you still see front page news articles about these game.  It just doesn't make sense how an old dieing game with a shrinking player base and dated graphics would have almost four times more hits then second place on this top ten list.  Something is mess up.

Maybe 31k people actually did visit DAOC on mmorpg.com and not made a single forum post.  Maybe there's some sort of website bug.   Most likely someones spamming the list to push there favorite game up, or maybe someones spamming the list to push a game off the top 10.

I hope the MMORPG.com staff looks into this.

What do you guys think?

There are always blips like this. That's why we have multiple data  view options, such as the 3 and 6-month lists of popular games so you get a better longer-term snapshot of the trends.

Are you really just going to chock it up to a blip?  Maybe your website is being attacked by zombie computers.

It got another 2k unique hits in the last few hours, with no forum posts, and no major news coming from the game.

It looks like more then a blip to me.
