    W/Mo
The average intelligence of players isnt very good so be prepared to rez people who dont follow basic instructions (with your monk skills) and tank what they pull as warrior.

A War/Ele is a good combination. You can fight then cast some bad ass spells! Another one that I am useing is a Nec/Ran. You can summond dead and also get a animal friend. Double the mini army!

    warrior/mesmer is good

you get spells such as Phantasm, which drains enemy health. Empathy which makes an enemy take damage when they hit you. Ether Feast which drains energy and turns it into health for you.

Every combination I've tried so far has good points to them...

W/N is good because it can steal health, though since warriors don't have all that much energy or energy regeneration, you sometimes can't regain health quick enough. I've seen this same problem with W/Mo

N/Mo is nice because you can be greedy and only heal yourself and the monk also has some nice aggressive spells along with good healing ones. But there's no defense or anything against physical, so you have to heal a lot...

E/W would seem to me as a nice combination, though since the elementalist carries such weak armor and doesn't really have any healing spells (to my knowledge), it's not very usefull for melee combat (which I like best)

These are the classes I've got, except for the last one, which is still only an elementalis ::::35::

War/Element would be good. I like War with a hint of earth magic. Earth Magic comes equiped with some cool close range (war so its no prob) AOE effects. plus in the earth build you can get some really nice defensive armors etc. Just be warry of your energy. But if you want to go the "easy route" (doesnt mean the worst) but War/Mo is ok for beggining and figureing out your chars etc.

Test the builds out, youll find one that fits you,

Have been Mo/Ele (fire spec) since release, haven't tried any other combo's out yet and really unsure why I picked the two I did initially.  However, I have had little to no trouble at all going head to head with anything and the fire ele secondary lets me take on multiple mobs with AoE's while I keep a Heal over time running on the Monk.

to be honest....almost any combo works good if you know what you're doing.....for me personally i have a W/E....but i never use my elementist skills unless i'm farming......i think Ranger is the most versatile class there is...if that helps any
