PC to run EVE well?

NizurNizur Member CommonPosts: 1,417

I'm looking to get a gaming PC, but I can't afford a high-end rig with all the latest bells and whistles right now. What would a PC need in order to run EVE on good to high settings and still get good framerates? What would I be looking at in terms of price? Any recommended manufacturers?

Thanks!

You could build your own for around 1,000.00 and it is not that hard.

its not a true gaming machine unless you build it yourself, sure u could go with dell or HP, but if you let other gamers know u have one of those they will simply laugh at you.

TBH, I think I may be able to run Eve on my old TI graphing calculator.  That is to say it doesn't require a high end pc to run.  As far as running well, pretty much anything you buy nowadays that is new, say an AMD phenom X4 or any of the i3/i5/i7 Intels, paired with a decent graphics card will run Eve on maximum settings with excellent framerates.  One of my old core2duo's in my house, paired with a 9600GT runs Eve on high settings well.

I recommend you post/move this to the hardware section, there are some top notch posters there who can recommend a whole build for you within your budget.

EVE does not require a hard core gaming PC, it can look great with a pretty run of the mill PC. I wouldn't spend anymore than 600 on a PC. Check out the gaming requirements for EVE...it will give the suggested requirements to run it on the high end. Howevever, if you want to eventually get into FPS PC games then you may want to spend more.

Occasionally Play: Champions, Pirates of the Burning Sea, WOW, EVE ONLINE

Absolutely any PC with a decent (not great) graphic card will run it on high settings.  You can pick up a decent used graphic card on eBay and get it for $50, but you need to go to a graphic card review site to make sure your card is decent.  Many PC manufacturers will push garbage on you even though a decent card can be bought for cheap.

EVE is a very old game so doesn't have the requirements of many other newer MMOs.  For instance Rift can actually bottleneck at processor not graphics card, but EVE will run fine on any processor to be honest.

Thanks for the replies! I guess I should be looking for a PC that will run other MMOs well too since EVE doesn't really push any modern hardware.

I'll do some more research to see what's out there.

What's your budget?  If you can assemble parts yourself, you can get something functional for around $600, excluding peripherals.  Above that, you can spend more money to get something nicer, up to about $1500 excluding peripherals, at which point diminishing returns for spending extra money kick in pretty hard.

If on a severely limited budget (i.e., if $600 sounds like too much for you), you may want to wait for Llano to launch and use the integrated graphics in that.  Otherwise, if you're getting a desktop, now is a pretty good time to buy.
