Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures: Movie Tie-In Adventure Pack Announced

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Funcom has been busy with a new adventure pack that will tie in with the "Conan the Barbarian" film set to debut in August. The Age of Conan adventure pack with reference to the movie is called The Savage Coast of Turan Conan sending players off to assist his friend Artus.

Slated for an August release, ‘Conan the Barbarian’ tells the tale of Conan and his adventures across Hyboria. The new adventure pack launches players on exciting adventures, as they help Artus unravel the conspiracy and plots surrounding the city of Ardashir in Turan. The pack adds all new encounters, the massive new area of Ardashir, new dungeons and raids as well as new armor sets and monsters that moviegoers can already observe in the recently released theatrical movie trailer.

"We're excited to see the movie and the game combined in this brand new content," says Executive Producer for Age of Conan, Craig Morrison. "Being able to draw upon the characters, storylines, weapons, and monsters from the movie is tremendously exciting, and it will definitely compliment the wealth of content that already exists within the 'Age of Conan' game world."

Read more about the movie tie-in on the Age of Conan site.

Yes,  I do I like most of his movies.  Just because he cant keep his pants zipped up does not mean he was not a good actor.

That dude is perfect to play Conan.  Bt the way Game of Thrones on HBO is awesome.

Meh. A lot of the movies he played in were indeed great, but as an actor he wasn't that talented, there's scores of equally wellknown actors who had better acting skills.

As for the new Conan movie, I don't care much for the new guy who plays Conan, but watching the trailer I did get that AoC vibe and atmosphere, and the environments and scenes looked better than the '80s Conan movie. Which of course isn't that surprising, seeing how far movie effects have come in the past 20-30 years.

I think the sets and design on the new movie are great,  but l felt they totaly missed casting the right person, and that can destroy a movie and fan base.  I probably will wait for netflix on it.

Addendum :  I felt this way about a lot  of the super hero movies like fantastic 4 and iron man,  as in not doing justice to the comic book,  and ye even a lot of the bat man and super man movies.  I guess  I am hard to please when you have high expectations of them doing it right.

That's your opinion, I thought he was laughably campy. The only movie I liked him in was the one where his camp was on purpose, Last Action Hero.

I agree with the above poster, the current actor fits the role awesomely.

Yeah, I agree about the actor, there are more fitting choices out there. Out of the top of my head, I already find The Rock a likelier Conan than this new guy. Although he plays great in Game of Thrones so far, so his role as Conan might surprise as well.

As for the other movies, I disagree on Iron Man, I think after watching the Iron Man movies that Robert Downey Jr is a perfect cast as Tony Stark. And while I was sceptical before seeing the movie about Heath Ledger after having had Jack Nicholson as phenomenal Joker, I must admit that right now Heath was the best Joker I've seen so far. Jack Nicholson was the Joker as I thought he should be in a comic-to-live action translation. But Heath Ledger was the Joker as he needed to be, and lifted its character to a level I wasn't even aware that was possible to reach. Now that's class acting and writing image

Sub-standard or awesome doesn't make a difference. He has become what people associate with Conan. He is the iconic Conan. It just makes it a bit harder to accept others in that role.

I had the same with Jack Nicholson as the Joker, but I'm glad I was proven wrong with Heath Ledger's performance, so who knows what'll happen with this new guy image (I keep forgetting his name)

The younger generations don't associate Conan with Arnold, and thank heavens for that. Horrible actor who made a horrible Conan.

And I hope Funcom never announces F2P for Age of Conan ;)

About Jason Momoa, I enjoyed him in StarGate Atlantis, just started watching Games of Thrones but have not seen him yet as I havn't taken the time to finish ep 1 01.

It seems he was also in Baywatch, but that's a serie I never watched, so for that serie he's unknown to me.

Overall I don't feel AoC needs to be F2P, as it's a quality game, even though I feel it's a limited MMO"RPG" for my taste, I still consider what I played for it to be a quality MMO.

Keep in mind that just as you feel Arnold made a horrible Conan due to the books being your primary point of reference, another generation has Arnold and the movies as their point of reference which makes him that definition of Conan that others will be judged by. By younger generation, I assume you mean the Millenials (GenX grew up with Arnold), so I am curious as to what "Conan" is or should be to them.

Let's hope that the movie will bring new life to AoC as it has improved a lot and has become a very enjoyable MMO to play (at last). With the new expansion featuring some of the movies creatures and areas it should be pretty good as from what i've seen in the trailers, I cannot wait.

Don't think I've ever seen any of the Arnold Conan movies ( if I did I don't remember them ) and while I've very recently ( 3 days ago ) started on some of the books I don't think that's enough yet to judge by.

The Conan in the trailers looks, imho, too pretty and too small. This is what I've always imagined conan as:

And while I realise that no realistic human being could come close to this I do feel they could have picked a slightly bigger and uglier person. This guy looks like a scottish warrior from a horrible historical chick-lit. I've always imagined Conan to be much more primal and brutal.

But I guess we'll see. Nothing is lost yet. If they do the introduction right with Conan still being in his younger years and not having seen the worst horrors of his life yet the actor could work.

    We are the bunny.
    Resistance is futile.

agreed - given its been a total of 7-10mins of screen time

they lessen the grind, improve the enginechanges to cc's, the promise of adding appearence clothes in the future and soon realease something new to do along with finishing t4 awesome.  wether or not the movie is good or bad most will still watch it, then finding familiarality in game will be only a good thing. adding appearence cloths satisfies the many people that wanted it from launch + makes use hopefully of all the unused cool looking armour around in hyboria

Well, in fact. The new Conan fits more with the original one from the books. Big but agile looking. Dark of hair and with a meaner/ yet more charming look. There was a lot of people that felt that Arnold did not represent the real Barbarian when the first movie came out. His hair were not black and he looked a bit too clumsy ((I personally loved it though as I hadn't read the books than)). But I'm sure the giant Khal Drogo actor ((Jason MoMoa/ Hawaiian name)) will pull it off nicely. I just wonder if the movie itself will be worth it.

Edit: He does look a tad too young though, that's true.

Take the time to watch it.

It started off a bit corny but as we lead into episode 5 it's starting to come alive. I have read the books and even though i think they are overrated and other novelist have better works out it's not bad at all.

Anyway.. A golden crown for a fallen dynasty in E4..
