WoW community?

AteaAtea Member Posts: 8

Well, I left other game couple of days back. It has issues, but the main reason was really terrible community. I’ve heard that WoW is an interesting game and has more mature and generally nicer community.
I decided to get some info on a game before playing it and I went to WoW forums.
… It indeed looks a little better than my previous MMORPG forums, but I can’t say I saw mature or nice community there. Then I checked this forum and I begin to have a feeling that I was misinformed…
How bad WoW community is?
Don’t get me wrong, but I don’t want to waste my time on spoiled brats of any kind. I kinda play to have fun and relax … ::::31::

I havent really had to much of a problem on wow I mean hell man there are idiots but you have the option to turn off your chat so it doesnt matter (for when it gets really stupid) but that seems a rarity. Exept for the occasional idiot i think its a great comunity, some players will help you if needed they dont take kindly to beggars but thats seems like thats everywere. I like the game personally and have had few altercations.

The community has been pretty good in my case, I usually play late nights on weeknights on a medium pop. pvp server. To be honest I haven't grouped with any real jerks and I've grouped a lot since release. There are idiots who spam in general chat occassionally, if your ultra-sensitive WoW probably won't be a good choice in all honesty. All in all I think it's good, probably not as good as smaller mmo's but good in any case. Most of the people I've met are in their 20's and there's plenty of software enginerds like myself. Population per server can hover around 10,000 so just like the real world experiences may vary.

I wouldn’t say I’m oversensitive. But I work all day and when I login in a game at evening I expect to relax, not babysit, be begged, annoyed, asked stupid questions and smlr.
That leads me to another question. What server should I play on? I can’t find any reliable information about servers. I would like not crowded server at evenings (GMT) and not too laggy, my IC isn’t the best…

WoW's community, in my experience, has some boats filled with good players stranded on a sea of idiots. If you really want to enjoy grouping I would find a good guild a stick with it. Don't bother with pickup groups because 75% of the time they will have people in them that have no idea what they are doing or are just very immature. In my experiences the Horde side on my server is filled with more respectable people seeing as most younger immature people want to be elves or humans rather than the races of the Horde. I am sure though that both sides have their idiots and it varies from server to server. Hope that helps.

Role Players are scarce to find in WoW sometimes.... i tend to gather all the roleplayers i can to my guild so that didn't becoem a problem. The Best RP expirience i've had was DaoC, the RP servers had 90% rp'rs and WoW from my expirienc ewas roughly 40% BUT the people on the RP servers were al lnice for the most part, they just werent all RP.

my experience has been that the community is yes indeed a sea of two kinds of people

    1) the immature people playing almost soley to grief or just be a jackass overall

    2) people who have never played an MMO before and are playing WoW just because the name Warcraft is in it, and thus don't understand the basics of an online community. These people are almost always total fanboys too seeing as that they don't understand that things need to run smoothly since they're paying per month or that some things need change.

that said there are lots of good players too, they just seem hard to come by sometimes, i found that there really is no difference between horde and alliance in respects to people being jerks but that's just my experience.

and on a side not, Dark AGe Roleplaying servers didn't seem to have a lot of true roleplayers on them, but instead seemed to be filled with a large majority of generous players willing to help out and give advice when need be.

Couldn't have said it better myself. There are good (even wonderful) players out there, but don't expect a high ratio of them. Expect at least 10-15 morons for every one person you'd actually want to group with again.

That game has bad reputation ::::01::
Usually even mentioning the title can start a flame war, so I better not name it here. Anyway, I doubt you would ever play it.

    Thanks for responses people.
Still would like to hear more oppinions on which is better community-wise: alliance or horde.
I think to play on Pve server for now.

I have not been playing WoW myself, but I have many friends who play it. They are all around 30 years old and everyone of them play horde. I would say that more mature player tends to select horde :) Most of them remembers to complain about alliance side kids when they try to convince me to switch to WoW :)

Horde definitely has a tighter community.

Although I primarily play Alliance, from personal experience in other games the 'bad' side tends to attract the more mature players.

If you want to go questing they might join, but with me they just left with no word. It is like they built a big single player game, then someone remembered it was seposed to have muliplayer. So they added it as a afterthought. I have never seen such a carebear game with war in the title.

I’m used to situation that there are too many people eager to get on my ignore list at any cost, what’s really important is ... how long and valid your friend list is. It can be short but of value.
I already purchased WoW, so I’ll play it anyway…

Which PVE Server has a moderate - high amount of people, and more mature players, or atleast some of them?

i heard Bleeding hollow is good especially for horde.

Dont pick horde, they eat babies image Play on a PvP server its just more fun! The community in WoW is what you make it. Its very popular so you will find some bedwetters and greifers and whiners, but those are in any game. Ignore the bad and all you will see is good image

So, a PVP server is just pure pvp? or is it pvp/pve? i don't like pvp alot, and pve servers have NO pvp, explain how this works please ?!

Unless you are a griefer and enjoy ganking or don't mind being ganked and accept it as part of a true open PvP system, play on a PvE server where you can PvE in peace and PvP when you want to.

An open PvP system is preferable, but only with reasonable constraints like a lvl limit restriction or honor code penalty with teeth, to keep the griefers in check.

I don't see why PVP is preferable to most?

I'de much rather pvp with my consent, instead of the open PVP.

why is PVP server better, and what's the differences besides that?

    thanks!

You mean the horde eats those little whiny creatures which lives in any MMO to make our life the hell in any game and when they get killed mostly because they deserve to die then they cry that someone is overpowered because they actually DIED in the game? Thank you, thank you now I know I was born to join horde ::::01::
Nah, that can’t be true, sounds too good to be true…
I would play on PvP server if not a little time I have to play. It’s rather hard to lvl on PvP servers in a short time.

    Hail to one and all,

Community only comes alive in WOW when you type the word,"FREE" in any of your sentences.
Oh by the way keep your words to no less than 3 letters, (though of course, "FREE" will be easily understood). Bye for now.

    Hi,

WoW community is the worst I have ever seen in any game. (played AO, SB, SWG, Eve, GW) Very immature community ingame and on the forums and it was one of the reasons why I cancelled my subscription.

  • TheWackoTheWacko Member Posts: 68

The trick isn't to look at the community as  whole, but to find a guild that suits you.  In every single game you will find that the most vocal people on forums, chat rooms and in game are those people that you do not want to associate with.  The people seeking attention, trying to be "special" or at least thinking they are, are the ones that hardly ever contribute to a games longevity.  Don't judge the rest of the community based on the vocal minority.  Especialy on the games major forums.

WoW, like other MMO's have a different age range than what used to be the norm.  You can expect people from all walks of life playing these games now.  10-35 is what's out there, and in most extreme cases, people 40-50+ play these games now.

Find a guild that suits you.
