The release of The Secret World is getting closer!

Nice it means TSW should be released at the end of Spring or Summer =)

Don't expect it that soon. Games normally have at least 3 months in beta, and sometimes well over 6 months depending on bugs or major changes.  Just look at past games.  They also haven't started inviting any large groups of external users.  This is still a very limited test for them.

I thought FunCom had a real short beta for Age of Conan as well, leaving a lot of bugs still there to be fixed about haalf a year after the release. It would not surprise me if the same would happen with The Secret World :s

Anyway, good news that it's in beta. I hope this is a MMO that'll make a lot of ppl happy (not me though)

Definately positive news to hear. It doesn't really mean it's going to be out this year, but it is a possibility.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

Interesting news.  I'd heard they were hiring professional testers for their Beta?  I assume they're doing this because they don't want the public to solve much of the games secrets before release.  I wonder how they plan to stress test.  I think if they stay limited beta only, that it's a risky proposition.  There's really nothing else like the average bumpkin finding unexpected ways to break a game.

How many years has this been in development now? 5 or 6? It's great that some kind of alpha or beta testing is going on. Good for them. Still looks like 2012 or 2013 release date at the rate they are going.

Let them take their time with this one. I can't stand funcom and I have 0 faith in them but so far with the lack of the vomit style hype marketing and the appearance of them taking their time and getting it right gives me some hope this won't be a steaming pile.

I really would like to take FC off my blacklist since they do tend to come up with innovative ideas. Just hope they don't shoot themselves in the balls again.

This is one of the few games that looks like it will be not only worth buying, but also worth playing for a decent amount of time. Crosses fingers , inhales...holds breath.

True on average people finding bugs and all but how many tards from here would join the beta to just play the game (not test). then come here and bash the crap out of it till no one would give it a chance in hell? You see it happen to all the games anymore that have a beta before release. Crying not enough content or to many bugs or everything is the same as other games. Seems everyone wants present day wow content and polish in there games. WoW was buggy at release with limited content. How many MC runs can you remember doing?

I like this quote from Funcom's Q1 presentation:

The technology supporting The Secret World is well tested and stable, and the technology risk related to The Secret World is significantly lower than for Age of Conan before launch.

Yeah the TSW technology is in AoC now, if i am to understand the AoC engin upgrade that took place a while back.

So at least, unless im mistaken, their engin is, and has been, undergoing live fire testing for some time.  I didnt recall hearing tons of moaning and groaning that the AoC engin upgrade made the game buggy last time i stopped by..

Age of Conan beta wasn't short at all. I participated in it as early as October 2007 and the game shipped in May 2008, plus the beta had already been ongoing for a few months before I joined.

However, it all depends on how much good work they put into the game until now. If it's already packed with much content and only needs skill balance and the likes, we might still see TSW this year; otherwise, I bet on an early 2012 release.

A larger, invite-based beta should come in the next few months, though.

Their projected release window was Fall 2011- Jan 2012, but that was given a year or more ago.

From what I understood the underground PvP area Hollow Earth was reworked, they weren't satisfied with how it was originally, things like that can push release window further the more of them are encountered while testing.

To me a "limited external beta" is pretty much friends and family (and employees) and that phase can go on for quite a while before moving towards a more traditional public beta.

    Mid 2012 at best.

A little help for the OP. Welcome to the forums - don't forget to make your links as "clickies":

This is accomplished by clicking on the little planet Earth symbol at the top of the text window. Rest should be self explanatory.

Lol. What are you willing to bet on that, that it's mid 2012 at the earliest that TSW will be released? image

I'm saying there'll be an earlier release ofc.

I think so too. I'm in the group that is suppose to get into the beta because they paid for a year sub to Age of Conan. I don't know what rank that group is in to get TSW invites. I still haven't got one haha.

With SWTOR and some more coming out maybe this year (if ever... SWTOR...) I don't think we will se this game until maybe 2012.

  • mazutmazut Member UncommonPosts: 988

I think it will be released with SWTOR.

*wonders how much actual content and fleshed out endgame options it will have at launch*

Will at least wait a few months to see before trying it.

I would like to know how much people are currently working on the game.

A release the same time as SWTOR will kill sales.
They have to have a 4 to 6 month difference so people be ready for greener pastures.

Imo its dangerous to hope that the die hard fans buy the game and later other players may join after SWTOR has gotten old to them.
In that case there is still no gravitation from a slightly small playerbase of fans toward the general mmo player pool and the intertia keeps them from playing.

You get only one time in a mmo life the oportunity to reach escape velocitiy and stay in the orbit having inertia keeping you up there and that is right after the launch so you have to assure you wont endanger this single occasion for success.

Chances are that the beta will go on for about a year if AoC is anything to go by, i wouldn't expect TSW until early/mid next year.
