I don't mind mobs on the roads, I didn't like the mob density much in general. It didn't make things more challenging, just more tedious. I will give Trion this much, they didn't waste any space in their game! It is the most cramped MMO I've seen which isn't to my personal taste, I like wide open spaces with pockets of mobs a lot better.

Mobs on the road aren't a problem, as long as you keep an eye on your minimap. What I have an issue with is the radius (meaning I can't go through a field without aggro'ing something) & how I can't attack part of an invading group without aggroi'ng the lot of them.

I think they really did that to slow botters down and to make it more realistic. I mean why wouldn't they be on the road? We are just used to it on other games. If you were on a horse and someone shot a death bolt at your horse you prolly would be knocked off.

Sounds like they want to get somewhere ;)

These issues did bother me at first, now I just see it as a reminder of what some of the older rpgs used to be like. It definitely reminds me of a nwn pw in that respect (although the respawn times were far longer).

It really does make you have to plan your path from point A to point B, there are clear stretches you just need to scout and find them. Picking a class with an escape really does help, feign death on my necro is awesome for barging through mobs (ofc you don't get this till mid way to cap). I'm sure some rogue builds can stealth around and/or vanish.

Not sure if warriors or clerics get any escapes though, probably not!

I believe what the OP is expereincing was an invasion going to whatever destination they were going.  Invaders like players often use roads.  Invaders have targets and destinations and they usually use roads to get there.  Or it could have been an invasion as part of a zone event.  One might also consider that OP is only level 27 so he likely has only only been playing the game for 10-20 total hours and is not to familar with how to play the game.  Which may account for why he was suprised to see an invasion using the roads he thought were safe.

Occasionaly I see  people complain there are  to many mobs to fight through to get to quest objectives while leveling up.  People have complained of this since early Alpha in August and the amount of mobs has been greatly reduced and thinned since then two times.  I prefer the greater density of mobs as it required a little more thought on pulling.  But I can see where many people don't like having to pay attention or think when playing MMO's which is certainly a valid way of playing as it simulates many peoples approach to real life.

lol no it was not an invasion :)))).

and no i am not fresh out of wow ive played eq1 for years and yes you do think abit when playing eq1 :))).

what is the point of haveing a mount if any mob can knock you of in 1 hit ??? i can understand mobs same lv has me or higher doing this but mobs 4/5 lvs below you how can this be ??.

So is freedom of movement / exploration restricted in Rift?  How does it compare to other games like wow or newer games like Tera?

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

It's not restricted per say, it's just there's so many mobs your not going to be able to take any short cuts without fighting your way through all of them....  The Mob population is just to dense....   One of the reasons I quit the game... Got tired of having to fight my way to the quest giver, then fight my way to the object, then fight my way back to the quest giver....  it makes something that would normally take 10 mins to do into a 60 min. job...... just really annoying....

Where else are they supposed to go? You enter their towns and villages, commit genocide, and then you complain when they are covering the roads and attacking you? I'm so sorry to hear that you were inconvicened by the orphaned child of a dead werewolf family on your way to your mansion; at least he's not an orphan any more.

Oh, cmon, the only reason for the mob density is trying to mask the tiny tiny tiny size of the world. Many games do this nowadays.

  • tank017tank017 Member Posts: 2,192

Eh,never saw this as a problem really..

If you have a good sense of aggro radius you can usually get around em.

and often times im off the road avoiding aggro.Damn those highway men/women/things

I really dont think this much thought went into mobs being on the road.

To note I find aggro radius in this game to be far shorter than in most other games, which is a good thing.

Yeah, but it do work. A small game with few mobs is really bad.

In a perfect world are all games huge but I seen few large games that have released in a long time.

I loved this post! So I'm not reading any farther as I know what's coming and it's probably not pretty. Good reply.

It is definitely different.  I don't have any problem avoiding mobs near the road so it isn't that bad.  But frequently there are invaders roaming the roads and sometimes when there are zone wide events they take out the whole town where you quest givers are.

I'll tell you one thing if you want to take a quick afk the best place is NOT on the road or in a small outpost.  Main city is best.  Or a nice quiet spot in the wilderness.   Maybe hiding in bush :P
