Pre-release Sith Warrior guide

I've been gathering information on the Sith Warrior from the official site, official site forums, official fansites, and special event footage and put together a pre-release Sith Warrior guide. This url is a permanent link and will be updated as more information is presented and the "Pre-release" tag is removed. The goal is to introduce players to SWTOR and the Sith Warrior class and game mechanics. The next guide in production is the Bounty Hunter.

1.0 Introduction to Sith Warrior Gameplay

The Sith Warrior is a melee class in Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO. They can perform the roll of tank, damage dealer, or a combination of the two and have the option of equipping a single lightsaber or dual wielding two lightsabers. Being a melee class, the saber based attacks are the Sith Warrior’s primary offense but they are also force users and have many force based abilities for offense, defense, crowd control and utility. The resource used to control the Sith Warrior’s attacks is Rage. Some abilities generate rage while more powerful attacks consume rage.

1.1 Sith Warriors Background

Sith Warriors are leaders on the battlefield and fight along side of Sith Inquisitors, Bounty Hunters, and Imperial Agents. Together, they fight for the Sith Empire and battle against the Galactic Republic for control of the Galaxy. Sith Warriors go through training at the academy on Korriban to become the leaders of the Sith Empire’s forces and demand absolute obedience from their followers. With a combination of determination, emotion, and training the Sith Warriors are a wrecking ball of destruction. Intricate planning or calculating details are not the jobs of a Sith Warrior who prefer to charge into battle like an adrenaline filled rhinoceros on speed.

    3.0 Advanced Classes

Looking at the example image above, you can see the Sith Warrior has two options, the Juggernaut and the Marauder. Like everything else in TOR, you will need to make a decision as to which path you want to take. The advanced classes are described in more detail below, but in summary the Juggernaut is a single lightsaber tank or damage dealer while the Marauder is a dual lightsaber damage dealer. Once you have chosen an Advanced Class, you cannot spend skill points in the other Advanced Class. If you look at the image above you will see the player chose the Juggernaut which leaves the Marauder skill trees unavailable. However, it’s likely that this choice is not permanent and you will be able to change your Advanced Class later for a fee.

When you are level 10 and ready, head to Dromund Kaas to choose your Advanced Class (AC). Descriptions of the two advanced classes are below.

    3.1 Juggernaut Advanced Class

    Weapon: Single Lighsaber

    Armor: Heavy

    Roles: Tank/DPS

The Juggernaut wears heavy armor and uses a single lightsaber. The player can choose to put skills into the Immortal tree to pickup tanking abilities or into the {DPS tree} to pick up the damage dealing abilities. The Juggernaut is the only Empire advanced class that can dps and wear heavy armor, making it very versatile. An Immortal can also be very valuable in PvP by protecting their teammates and providing utility.

    3.1.1 Immortal Discipline

A Sith Warrior that chooses the Immortal discipline will focus on performing the tank role. Damage reduction, threat generation, and survivability are the important aspects of tanking. The Immortal also has the ability to be an important part of PvP by combining the Immortal discipline with the Rage discipline. The Immortal has the ability to place Guard on a friendly player. 50% of any damage that friendly player receives is transferred to the Immortal who is better equipped to receive damage. The Immortal can also Taunt an enemy player, reducing the damage that enemy player can do to your teammates. These damage reducing abilities along with crowd control abilities allows the Immortal the ability to manipulate who the enemies target.

The primary stats for the Immortal are Strength and Endurance.

For information on abilities specific to the Immortal tree, please click on Immortal Abilities.

    (More info when available)

    3.1.2 {Single Saber DPS Discipline}

Juggernauts also have the ability to be a pure damage dealing role by spending points in the {placeholder} discipline.

    (More info when available)

    3.2 Marauder Advanced Class

The Marauder dual wields two lightsabers, wears medium armor, and only performs the role of damage dealer.  While the Marauder only performs the roll of damage dealer, it provides more options on how you want to deliver your damage. One of the differences between Juggernaut DPS and Marauder DPS is the Marauder has a temporary stealth ability that can be used in combat. This is much more valuable as a PvP ability as surprise and escape are key abilities.

    Weapon: Dual Lighsaber

    Armor: Medium

    Roles: DPS

    3.2.1 Carnage Discipline

The Carnage Discipline duel wields two light sabers and is a melee damage dealer.

    (more information when available)

    3.2.2 Annihilation Discipline

The Annihilation Discipline duel wields two light sabers and is a melee damage dealer.

    (more information when available)

While both the Juggernaut AC and the Marauder AC are Sith Warriors, they will engage combat quite differently.

Thanks for sharing. Looks interesting and its nice to get some info about the nuts and bolts of the game for a change.

I have to say SWTOR is looking very similar to other modern MMOs, but that's to be expected, and is not necesarily a bad thing. How it actually plays is going to be the important thing.

This is some good information, I agree the way the ability tree is laid out reminds me a lot of rift but again that is to be expected. I care more about the playability then anything.

Nice layout and guide. Only current info I see missing is the shared tree. The tree that can be used by both ACs. But other than that, it looks very well done.

That's a good point about the shared tree. I'll get that updated next week.

@all Thanks for the feedback, I'm looking forward to getting the next guide out soon!
