Question and Answer for Mortal Online 26 May: More Details on Dawn

RohnRohn Member UncommonPosts: 3,730

In lieu of the HoC, the CM has posted a series of questions and answers from Henrik, which can be found here:

http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/62273-q-henrik.html#post1150972

One significant change that hasn't been previously revealed is one to Encumbrance:

Q: Are there any plans to change the way Encumbrance and Equipment weight are handled in Dawn? Currently the encumbrance limits the variety of armors, and almost making the heavier ones unusable.

Henrik: Big Changes, the way carry weight is handled is changed in Dawn. Players are able to carry a bit more in their inventory without getting encumbered. There are also two new primary skills that increase the ability to wear heavy armor without suffering a penalty. Meaning that you can build a very solid Tank type character and still be competitive in PvP, opening up space for heavy armors to be desirable by some players. At the same time the impact that heavy armor has on mana regeneration is increased; wearing exceptionally heavy armor will cause the mana regeneration to almost grind to a halt even if you have the skills that allow you to wear heavy armor without encumbrance.

Another area that players often talk about is archery, which will also be getting some changes in Dawn:

Q: Has anything been done to archery? Right now a lot of players have been complaining about the "Random Shot Circle".

Henrik: In Dawn the entire random circle is removed from Archery, instead there is a small wobble in the bow, that increases the more you move. If you manage to release the arrow exactly on the pixel, the arrow will fly right to that pixel. Good archers will be able to hit players with deadly precision. While there are no other changes to the way Archery is handled besides numerous bug fixes, we want to see how the community responds to this new archery before any other changes or balancing is made.

There's also more information on the intellegence and control of horses, the gene system, new sounds, and the new player tutorial all coming with Dawn.

There is some good information there, some of it had not been announced for Dawn until now.

The changes to Encumbrance, and the new armor skills that go with it, will probably have some pretty palpable changes in-game with regard to character builds.

Archery has been argued about for quite a while - this looks like a good change to me.  More changes to magic are still needed, but that's supposed to be a focus post-Dawn.

All in all, a good, but small, bit of information.

It appears that at least the news about the revamped archery system is being positively received by the community, as several of the posts in this thread attest:

Also, they've confirmed no crosshair for archery as well:

You aim with the arrow tip, not an unrealistic crosshair

Another little tidbit of information is appearently there working on improving the housing system so that players have more freedom orienting and placing houses but that won't be released until sometime after the Dawn expansion.

LOL at the bit about horse AI - any of you guys actually believe that bullshit? There is no way in hell that any of that is going to be in game. The AI is miles away from being intelligent in this game so how all of a sudden horse's suddenly get this great AI so that they will react to NPCs is utter bull shit.

This guy needs to stop lying or he will become the next KFR (Roma Victor) and like the guy from Darkfall.

Marketing your product is one thing out and out lying is another!!

You can't be bothered to wait until the patch is released to call foul?  I mean, it's clear your confident it won't work out like Henrik says, but at least wait until it actually doesn't work before you get all rightously indignant.  Calling him a liar before the thing he's lying about even exists barely parses as a sentence, it just sounds like angry ranting at the wall.

I really don't care what Henrik has to say, all he always ever says is false hype and lies.

What MO needs is LOADS of content with a full revamp of almost every part of the world, real PVE with mobs actually dropping loot, lots more of humanoid mobs.
