Wow Classic - 19.99

Wpw Buring Crusade - 9.99

Wow Wrath of the Lich King - 39.99

Wow Catacylsm - 39.99

Game Time - 1 Month Free with WoW Classic

Now assuming that you are the hardest of hardcore,

it would cost you about $110.00 just to play this game for a month

Assuming you are a casual player and maybe it takes you 2-3 months to reach level 85 it would cost you $125.00 - 140.00

Curious why there is a descending trend in WoW subscriptions? Because for new blood to play this game the cost of playing is simply to high. Sure you can choose not to buy the expansions but what are you going to do? Sit around at level 60 playing with yourself while everyone has flying dragon mounts in Azeroth?

Thats why I could not get into WoW, I got to level 60 within the first 2-3weeks and I looked around and basically I was forced to pay another 10$ for BC, + buy another month of game time, + Wotlk after that + Catacylsm.

Yea right.. -_-

    1.  You can buy the battlechast that combines classic and BC.

    2.  There are a great great great many people that play the game like me.  I've been playing on and off for 5 years and have never actually made it past 65.  These people have no need to buy the expansions until they get to the required levels, or they choose to play worgen... like I did.

    3.  If you have never played before and want to power to 85 in the first month than that is the price you pay.  Powergamers pay more.  The rest of us just relax with our games.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

I feel the same way, If they want to stay competitive with GW2, they have to choose between paid expansions or a sub fee. They can't have both, nobody can afford it.

I hope that you realize that you don't have to buy directly from Blizzard.

    Cataclysm for $25

Total of $89.  It also comes with free shipping.  I only checked one site, so you might well be able to get it cheaper elsewhere, too.

Now, I'll concede that that's a lot for an MMORPG, when you're also going to have to pay a subscription fee.  But if you're going to complain that it's too expensive, at least give the right numbers on just how expensive it is.

    LOL

Even Guild Wars could be bought in one single bundle in the end (which is when I tried it out).

That's why I quit WoW.  I'm not paying money from expansions unless it gives me something new to do...none of the expansions (except WotLK) do.  Whatever happened to those "hero" classes in the expansions?  If they had a new class for each expansion then I probably wouldn't mind.  It'd give me a new class to level up.

Hero classes will be an upcoming "premium" service.

If you buy the newest Everquest expansion dont you get the whole thing? Or Aion. I dont remember them all but i know many games with expansions allow you to play all of the content if you buy only the newest expansion.

It is extremely ridiculous to have to spend over $100 to play WoWs full game.

You could get EQ + The first Exp then you had to buy all the other exp packs on top of that lol...

I think now they have some kind of collectors edition with most fo them in but i aint checked out EQ for a long time lol

  • IceyouIceyou Member Posts: 11

And now EQ is forever a footnote of what could have been.

Way more than 8 expansions now. It doesn't matter though because now, and this has been  for a while, if you buy the latest expansion it includes all the past ones as well. Same with EQ2

It is not about affording it or not, it is about how much you are willing to pay for an MMORPG. For me 50 euros plus monthly fee is the max I will pay, no game is worth more than that.

Having plenty of money isn't a defense of the cost. It is one of the most expensive games on the market, whether people are on a low middle or high end income is really neither here nor there.

You and others can disparage those that bring it up but it doesn't take away from the fact.

WoW is a cash cow with shiny teats (good businesses are), plain and simple.

  • Daffid011Daffid011 Member UncommonPosts: 7,945

It doesn't matter what other games sell in bundles or at what prices they sell for.

All that matters is that the current market is sustaining sales for WoW at the current price and seperate boxes.  That is just how things are.

Personally I would rather see base games and all expansions bundled together for a decent price, but until people stop paying the asking price for wow and the several expansions, there isn't much incentive for Blizzard or retailers to change a thing.

Other games are discounted and bundled together, because that is what they have to do to sell boxes.

  • MetzaMetza Member Posts: 160

People are still paying those prices but I wonder if bliz has taken into account those people that wont pay those prices and what new people may be playing the game, and not just new to warcraft but new to mmo's in general, they have such a draw with how popular the game has been even most people that dont play mmo's have at least heard of it, but for them to just "hear" of it or want to jump on game after paying such a sum to maybe not like it is a big turn off for new players.... and ya there is the free trial but is a 7 day free trial even good enough to make a decision on whether your gonna get your moneys worth out of the game? I dont think so you never know the game could get boring to some half way through.

My brother and his roommate want to play warcraft with me and some of my buddies but they just will not pay that price to start the game, and I dont blame them, even though I like the game, I wouldnt either, those expacs are in the past and pretty barren on most servers compared to where all the max lvl people are.

If they would just start using the 39.99 price for those who own all versions of the game already and then a 59.99(or something close) that comes with all previous expacs and one free month I think some of those subs wow is losing right now and will be losing in the future could trickle back in from the people that are like, lets see why this game was so popular and what its all about.

    just my opinion though.

LOL, so go play some crap free to play MMO if you can't afford it. WoW is worth every penny, and Blizzard knows this.

Other sub-based MMOs have FTP options or free previous expansions because they are hurting for players, and their game is a stale fart compared to WoW.

When I renewed I only had WoW classic.  Upgrading completely to Cata was $50.

You can buy 2/3 of the "high priced World that is Warcraft" for less than 25 bucks including a free month.  See Amazon:  Battle Chest.  That is quite competitive.  Effectively $10 for the basic game and first expansion.

I agree that Blizzard should by now have a "full experience" version of the game, and it should cost less than $110.  But that CAN be done yourself if you're not a fool with your money.

If wow is too expensive for you, play something different? If I can't afford to eat expensive steak every night i'm not going to write on forums complaining about it. Don't see the point.

  • paroxysmparoxysm Member Posts: 437

The parts that stick out to me are price to content ratio and adding in new prices for "premium" content that was previously always apart of the basic sub.  Compare the cost of an expansion pack to a single store mount.  Compare what the monthly sub costs and what it entails versus the cost of a single "premium" service.  It's true we don't have a true answer on the exact cost of that premium service, but from what has been thrown around so it's not something that scales correctly in my eyes.  Compare what this "premium" service entails versus things that have been added to the game for our regular sub cost.  Why was LFG and cross server LFG included, but to play with specific people in that cross server LFG they want more money?

  • MeridionMeridion Member UncommonPosts: 1,495

When Cataclysm released there was an offer to preorder Cata and get all previous expansions including WotLK for 59,99; At least in Europe. So that's the whole game for 10 bucks more than the regular price... I don't see your point. Besides the fact that these games are super-cheap compared to playing single player games of any kind (which keep you entertained for a month or so, for 50 bucks)

  • BeansnBreadBeansnBread Member EpicPosts: 7,254

It is too expensive. But uh... don't play it?

It honestly only makes their sub numbers seem even more amazing.

  • nyxiumnyxium Member UncommonPosts: 1,345

Cash cows man, cash cows, all we are to them. When everything was included in the sub I might see them slightly in a better way. Blizzard can find a cash battery elsewhere, it won't be me again. Sub + expansions + cash shop = no thanks.

  • mklinicmklinic Member RarePosts: 2,014

Thank goodness! I was starting to worry we were running out of things to complain about.

As pointed out, the numbers posted in the OP do not reflect the actual cost to start the game with all Xpacs. A quick search shows Amazon selling all (classic, BC, wotlk, cata) together for $89 and change. Is that too much? I suppose that is a matter of personal opinion based on perceived value. If only there were alternative....oh wai..
