This game worth a damn yet?

Like I asked, is it worth a damn yet? Feel free to throw in your bias opinion as long as you also include facts.

World of Warcraft is the original creation of God. Real Life is in fact a WoW clone.

It's certainly worth playing as far as I'm concerned.  Obviously, it depends on what type of experience a person is looking for from any game as to whether or not it's worth playing.

Overall, the game has improved a lot since launch, though it still has room for improvement.  In the year since launch, they've added some content, improved combat, incorporated a new build that will better support future features, made a number of changes to the way some systems work, and have cleaned the game up a lot.

The first expansion, entitled Dawn, is due to come out soon.  With it, a number of interesting (to me) systems and changes will come - these two webpages give some idea of what will come with the expansion:

    http://www.mortalonline.com/expansions

    http://www.mortalonline.com/news/dawn-media-blowout

A large discussion thread, appropriately entitled the "Dawn Discussion Mega Thread", has sparked a lot of conversation about the upcoming expansion.

There's a free trial for the game now, so many people are waiting until the expansion comes out to give the game a try.

I've been playing the game since launch, having seen the changes incrementally applied, and I still really enjoy it.  Obviously, I'm biased in that regard, and I don't expect every to agree with me.  But, as a fantasy sandbox game, I quite like it, though I am really looking forward to Dawn, just as I'm looking forward to more content beyond the expansion.

People get caught up in expansion hype and become dilluted to the fact it's still the same HORRIBLE company with the same CORRUPT gms

He asked for opinions.  Expansion hype really has little to do with it, since I've been playing and enjoying the game all this time without it.  image

Of course, most people are going to look forward to an expansion for a game they're playing.

I thouhgt I had been completely fucked over when I pre ordered and got into the beta... But the improvements since then is amazing and the game is quite enjoyable at the current point. It is much better than Darkfall in the sense that there are no GOD characters who have every single skill maxed. There is skill caps thank god. So yes I would say if the sandbox mmorpg interests you it is actually pretty damn good. Reminds me of old Ultima Online when I used to play. Just my thoughts.

This game has improved by leaps and bounds over the year it's been released.  I suggest trying the free trial.  Also there's an expansion coming out this month.  You definatly want to check that out.

I can second that. Although it's still far away from accepteble state unless you are desperate for a free aim sandbox.

That largely depends on what you want. The way you ask the question implies that you thought it wasn't "worth a damn" before.  If you didn't like it before, why was that? Some things that you may have disliked before have changed, others are just the way it is (e.g.If you can't tolerate getting attacked while gathering resources, this game will never be "worth a damn" for you)

The game is a lot of fun and is very immersive. It has improved tremendously since beta and launch. I personally think it is the best game of its type around.

That being said, it does require a bit of patience when you are starting out as they don't make anything easy for you. Ask some questions and take some time to figure out what you are doing. I would also suggest that you start in one of the more populated noob areas like Meduli. If you enjoy free-form sandbox games with a bit of danger, I think MO will be right up your alley.

I strongly urge you to try a couple free trials before buying.

Can't say I think mo(or darkfall for that matter) is worth the money they charge, not even sure if they where f2p i'd really bother with them tbh.

But as stated mo has a free trial, best idea is to try it and see what you think

Absolutely.  As opinons vary from person to person, trying it oneself if really the only way to know if a person will like a game or not.  The truth of this appears to be evident in the responses just within this thread, let alone pretty much every forum on this website.

I think its time to give this game a looksie for myself now its had time to polish a bit, and with an expansion, something darkfall players like myself are begging for, it feels like the perfect time. :)

    Definitly try the trial first. I had a bad experience, more so with the GMs so I wont buy it. My experience was this;

    1. Went exploring.

    2. Found arena and went inside through open gates and explored the inside rooms.

3 .Decided to leave arena and found the gates were now shut with no lever or activation feature to open gate.

    4. Petitioned GM and waited one hour. No response.

    5. Next day logged in, still trapped in arena.

    6. Found post on the official forums about bugged arena gate and some stated in post that GMs respond in a few minutes and will move you. Not in my case.

    7. I politely  posted in same thread asking for help hoping a GM or Mod would respond.

    8. Mod posted for me to wait until the next arena event. Mod CLOSED the thread. The event wasnt for another 3 days.

    9. I stopped playing due to the GMs lack of interest to help out a potential new player because he was trapped thanks to a bug they knew about.

Personally until Dawn, it wasn't worth a darn at all. Like some say, even f2p I might not have played.

Now I will have to try the game with Dawn, but apparently right now, the game is pretty fucked up and I'll wait a few weeks before starting my trial.

And here is another take from a new player. http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/62991-darkfall-dropout-here-stay.html Some people here seem to focus on the bad things only and post here. But there are two sides to every story. But it sure is a game that aren´t for all tastes. I love it, but my buddy that tried it longed back to WOW. I´m tired of themepark MMOs. For me MO was refreshing and something that I´ve longed for. It has a long way to go still for sure. But I´m gonna be there along the way.

objectively speaking..... nope, this game is not worth 50$ and it's certanly not worth a subscription fee. however this game has such a diffferent feel to it that once you play, IF it grabs your attention, it's hard to shake. there are just so many good ideas, awesome and fresh game mechanics in this game that you want it so bad to just work as it's supposed to and you keep coming back over and over hoping that this time it's fixed for good.

    but it never is.

so much potential destroyed by bad programming. a year and half after release it's still has insane ammount of bugs, old and new. it still feels very much as a beta......maybe in a few months....maybe in a few years.

Short answer is, no, no it's not even close to worth it. Specially for being the most expensive subscription for any mmo in the US..it's clearly not.

I don´t get this. You do know that you also get a discount on the monthly fee if you link your acount to facebook. Then it´s not that expensive. Now I don´t think that the 14.25$ that the US player pays is much to begin with. It´s like a good pizza. I have no problem at all with those few bucks each month. But again, just link it to your facebook, and if you have alot of friends the discount is even more...

Discount or no, compared to the ocean of themeparks out there charging $15 per month, it's certainly worth it to me to play the type of game I enjoy most.

    The gameplay's the thing.

Uh it's close to $17 US dollars. If you haven't noticed all their payments are done in EUR, you have to convert it..and I do have FB linked to it...it only cuts off cents..not dollars.

Yeah, it's a little more than a dollar a month difference from the standard... considering it seems more currency-related than SV being especially greedy, I consider it a tariff and move on my way.

edit:  11.40 euro for one month = 16.30 usd at the moment, according to google... cant be arsed to check my bank account atm, that sounds about what I'm paying though.

$16.32 at the current exchange rate to be precise.  The money saved by linking to facebook is fairly small unless you have a massive friends list, OTOH, you can save a significant amount by purchasing more than one month at a time.

    3 months= 29.40 euro = $42,08      $14/month

    6 monthss = 54 euro = $77            $11/mon5h
