While haters go around rampaging on the forums tearing down every game in their path, for whatever reason they deem fit, they will allways loose to the fanboys in the end ...
Because the fans are actually playing a game and enjoying themselves while the haters keep wailing in a pool of negativity and discontent.
Cheers.

Wow....you are a genius!
What about the folks who just do not want to pay for something that was not fixed or was not added as promised. Should there opions count and possibly get folks to think again about buying a product from the next game from said company. Most companys now are looking at bottom line not the gamers.
What can I say?
Ignorance is bliss.

Because of course haters never play any MMORPG's while they're busy tearing down fanboi dreams.

Because eventually haters will actually like an game and suddenly they turn into normal people breaking the spell

I was first called a hater in beta of SWG. I pointed out some problems with someparts of the game I did not find on par with such a huge IP and the potential amount of buyers there could be if they raised the bar a bit higher.
That went well...
Then I was called a huge hater in beta of EQ II, and banned from mmorpg.com about... 12-15 times. A moderator here was screaming to high heaven how awesome EQ II was and how it worked on every normal computer and if ANYONE had a problem with it, it was because they and thier computer sucked. I pointed out the flaws in his logic and told him to shut up with the constant lies... and was banned... and banned... and banned.. over and over.
Yeah.. that game worked fine. Success story if I ever saw one.
Then I was a hater in beta of Vanguard. Everyone on this forum was tellign everyone else that this was the messiah of mmmo gaming, it was so beautiful and so flipping advanced. It was an advanced game for REAL advanced gamers! Whooooo!! Again... Not too true. It looked nice, but it was not exactly revolutionary. and as a 3D modeller in 3D Studio Max I recognized a lot of the maps they had used for terrain as freebies found on the net. Except the leather armor map, in what I called Mattel plastic reflection. And no, not too advanced either no.
Oh yes... Developers learn the hard way to to spend years on a project, then quality test it against people that hate problems in their dreams.
So yeah I am a hater... I did not pour hate over a lot of games with problems, because people actually agreed that there was problems in them. No hate over AO and its problems. Everyone agreed. No hate over Planetside and its problems. Everyone agreed. No hate over a lot of games, because people agreed not everyhting was perfect.
Those three, I am a hater. I do not feel the LEAST bit bad about it.
"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly.
It should be thrown with great force"
I don't think providing constructive criticism should be regarded as being a hater.
I'm all for people giving feedback and trying to warn fellow gamers for possible letdowns or crap all together.
But here is the catch.
What is crap?
This question probably merits a thread of its own. But to go on with my little rant, at a certain moment a discussion about a game reaches the level of "taste".
It is clear people have different tastes in games. Thank God for that. So some people may like one game while others don't.
Haters don't seem to grasp this simple fact. Taste can not be argued over.
Somewhere along the way they got the impression that their taste is the only one that counts. The fact they played since the dawn off mmo's gives them somekind of godly insight. So when they think a game sucks ... well evrybody should think it sucks. And if you don't, well you must be an idiot.
A bunch of replies in this thread allready shows very good what I'm trying to say here.
Cheers.

From the point of view of a "hater", it's only natural to do what they do, and for good reason. WoW haters must be beside themselves by now, they lost out to WoW fanbois and now all that's being made are WoW clones, over and over again. Thus, 'haters' are trying desperately to avoid a repeat. They see a type of game that doesn't appeal to them personally, and they fear that, if they're unable to convince enough people that it sucks, it will succeed and suddenly every company will start churning out game after game that doesn't appeal to them.
When you say the problem can be boiled down to "taste" that's simply not true. In order for "taste" to apply, there has to be enough of a difference between two products that 'taste' can be differentiated. When your choices are a hot dog with relish and ketchup, a hot dog with onions, or a hot dog with chili and cheese, it's not really much of a choice. So now these people are reading Fast Food Monthly, and they see the next few new releases on the menu - hot dog with mustard, hot dog with sour kraut, hog dog with the works, and they think to themselves:
"Jesus christ, not more hot dogs... what if another one of them becomes popular? Then all these companies will just keep making MORE HOT DOGS. I want a hamburger... maybe if I can make people hate hot dogs, then the hot dogs won't sell and these companies will try to make a hamburger instead."
Do you see where I'm going with this? Some people will prefer their hot dog with onions, some with chili and cheese, but you need to understand that there are still a sizable number of people out there who would rather have a hamburger, and they don't have many options. The last thing they want to see is another successful hot dog stand.

Many people choose not to see the differences in the so called wow clones. Without admiting there is a difference they will be stuck in claiming there isn't any difference. In any case, this is about power and people without it will try whatever games they have to get some. They would also have an option to get together with like minded people and build a company to make a game they want. It would take passion and hard work, but it would be worth it.

Exactly. If you wish to put blinders and totally ignore problems or the adverse direction that a game is going to take with an eventual update, then that's you. Personally and especially as a paying customer, I will make my viewpoint known and provide feedback.
And some of us won't put up with retarded BS from the developers. In several MMORPGs in the past, I've pointed out gameplay problems, bugs, and giving opposing viewpoints as to why the direction a game takes would be bad for the game. I will also point out that a lack of action on certain major issues is a big detriment to the game.
The developers can take that info provided by us "Haters" and naturally do whatever the hell they want with it. They can take the feedback like men (well, if it applies) and professionals and take proper action... especially if the feedback is rather large on an issue. Or they can turn a blind eye and focus on the gushing Fanbois and blind acclaim thrown towards the devs. I've seen this happen many times where major, widely reported problems are disregarded, deleted, with the Fanboi Clique unleashed on the forums suppressing any dissent.
Which brings up related thread to this thread regarding Fansites & Fanbois.
Using a FanForum as the Main Forum for feedback is a bad idea
