Thinking About Playing.

I have read the threads on this page and I like what I see. Many people are saying this is a good game but I just have a few questions.

1. Should I start out as a free player and play for a while and go VIP if I like it?  Or should I just go VIP?  Either one would be fine for me.

2. Is there any particular server that is the best to start out on? What are the busiest servers?

3. If I go VIP will there be anything else I will need to download besides what I have now?

4. If I go VIP will there be any need to use the cash shop still?

5. Are there costumes, and other things to customize your look?

6. This is kind of a silly question but are there horse mounts?  haha.

I basicly know very little about this game so if you have any tips or suggestions I would love to hear them. Any useful info would be welcome since as I said before I know practicly nothing about this game right now.

LOTRO is a great game and the community on the Landroval server is the best there is in any MMO out there, (there I said it).  The people there will gladly help you with any questions you have, have fun.

    1. You should start as a free player since if i'm not mistaken, it gives you the starting areas for free and that will allow you to see if you like the game.

    2. I only play on EU-Snowbourne so i can only tell about it and it's a very busy server. Turbine just took over the EU part of Lotro so the server might be low on US players right now but i'm sure it will have a nice amount of US players later in the month.

    4. There is lots of fun stuff in the cash shop and i still use it even as a VIP.

    5. You can use cosmetic items and armour/clothings in the appearance tabs without affecting your stats.

    6. Ofc, there are Horses, Ponies and Goat Mounts.

Heres a suggestion, if you plan on playing on Snowbourne, type /joinChannel GlobalLFF. Best place for finding groups.

This is the best of all F2P games. Although, I would recommend buying one month just for the premium account after you cancel. After that, you can earn TP through deeds in the game and buy whatever you want in the shop. It's really how all F2P should be.

They also have an excellent community. I've never seen any spammers, nor had a bad conversation with anyone in the game. The only flaw is that the combat is a little slow... but not terrible to the point where you want to quit playing.

Oh, and the download is long.

    1. I think you should start off as F2P. You can reach level 30-33 just off that, which should be enough to judge whether or not you'd like to partake in VIP and such, imo.

    2. Brandywine and Landroval (RP Server) are the two most populated servers. Either one is fine, though I've found parties and help is much easier in Landroval.

    3. You won't need much, unless your hyped over how you look. If you go VIP you will be given 500 tp (per month if you continually pay monthly) and you can browse the Store for cosmetics and other items like mounts, quest packs such as Mines of Moria or Mirkwood along with other misc. items. Also there's two classes you won't have unless you buy the Mines of Moria expansion or from the cash shop itself, Warden and Rune Keeper.

    4.  Not really, I answered mostly what you could get above. :P

    5. Yep, cosmetics. They add no stats, and you'll able to store up to 4-5 (forget right now, not on a computer with lotro) sets on your character. Then you have a wardrobe which you can store your cosmetic items and share with your other characters.

    6. Horses, Goats. Some have to be bought from the Cash Shop (Like the goat). If your VIP you can get a quest to learn the riding skill at 20 and purchase a mount then, otherwise you'll have to spend/grind tp to learn the riding skill from the Cash Shop (which if you did your deed you should be able to by the time your 15-18)

Great game, though I might add a suggestion. Search ebay or amazon for Collectors Edition Mines of Moria if your looking to go VIP some time. I managed to get mine around $30 and in perfect condition. It gives you Mines of Moria expansion (Level 50-60 or so) along with 1 month free vip and other misc. items like a necklace with the ring and some in-game tokens along with access to two classes (Warden and Rune Keeper). Good start for vip in my opinion.  If you need help and are on Landroval feel free to friend me and I'll see if I can be of any help when I'm on, Lintence.

    Hope this helps any.

Overall the game is decent but the community is poor and Turbine is a bad company. You could spend hundreds on LOTRO and then Turbine can ban you for about anything. I'm not taking about a usual ban for doing wrong I literally mean anything.

There's a reason the game is F2P remember that. Not only that you get free points for speaking of LOTRO in a positive light.

Also the end content gets old fast, overall just buy Moria box and never play it again. A company this abusive should not get your money.

Don't lie ok? You get banned for breaking the TOS or EULA repeatedly, nothing else. And you can appeal every single action a GM takes against you atleast 2 times(senior GM, Customer service), there are only a very select few things that will get you a instant permaban and all of them are bad enough to warrant them.

you should start out vip , to save yourself  alot of real money later , bag unlocks/gold caps and the like on a vip made toon are free . F2P made toons have to buy these things

server dont matter none are truely friendly anymore

you will need cash shop even with vip , the games all about soking in the bucks , before all the players notice the gamer engines are way way out of dated

hmmm, with all due respect to your opinion, you are the one who started a thread indicating how trashy you felt the company and community was yet from reading your post I got that you weren't really telling us the whole story as to why you thought they were elitists.

My experience with the company as well as the community has been reasonably good. Even with the added "f2p" players I have yet to see the type of talk that goes on in some other games I've played. And customer service has always treated me well.

OP, I suggest you try for yourself and I also will put a plug in for Brandywine server.

    Here's my opinion:

Start free.  Everything is good and free up until around 20ish.  At 20.. make a decision.. are you going to stay or not?

If you decide to VIP, create all your toons right from the get go.  Go VIP. The bags, the traits, all that unlocks for all those create characters so you're not paying out of pocket.

Buy TP when it's on sale.  Turbine does these double bonus point deals which'll net you 7K points for 50 bucks.  Everything goes on sale, you can get some decent sales.  Especially when shared bank goes on sell.

The general consensus is that the ONLY reason to STAY VIP at the minute is to Creep but it's all your call.

Have fun, don't listen to some of the naysayers (they have most likely been banned for doing stuff that you wouldn't want to see in games anyways), and see for yourself.

With the game being F2P, this game'll be permanently installed.  Even when I go play other games, I come back and play.
