It's almost like they took previously released footage and added some video effects...

How is this game going to be any different than Warhammer?  Just a two faction ho hummer in space versus fantasy.  That formula has been proven not to work over and over again.

I am highly disappointed that such a great IP is being ruined by yet another wanna be MMO developer without a clue how to design a game in this genre, especially a pvp game.

I could have sworn its late 2012 if not early 2013 that was set by the devs.

On another note: today's the day men, whether we see how this game might just turn out.

Being a Warhammer and 40k fan since 1988, I've always followed the video game representations of the franchise closely in hopes that a developer would actually use the IP for greatness.

So far we've had Dawn of War 1 which was a very good strategy game and Dark Omen, a hidden single player gem from an older generation of gaming. Other than those two games everything else has been sub-par or lower. DoW 2 was so-so, Chaos Gate, WAR, the Warhammer strategy game that was made for PC that was horrible and I forget the name of, Final Liberation, etc ... none of these games are worth rememberin when compared to the table top represnetation and the awesome scope of each franchise's rich universe.

Space Marine is on the horizon but it looks nothing more than a hack n slash version of Gears of War. I doubt the game will be bad but it also won't be anything special. I'm also in the boat that so far the 40k universe has been represented poorly when compared to it's grim-dark atmosphere. To me, all of the 40k games (especially DoW 2 and Space Marine) come off as something made to appeal to teenage kids. That's a mistake. The 40k universe is about as serious of an atmosphere that you can experience. Life is cheap (extremely cheap) and the ever xenophobic/racist Imperium is pushed to the limits by countless other factions - none of which are allies except in dire circumstances. Even then, the alliances are usually strange and uncomfortable if nothing but tempoary.

As much as I want DMO to be great, I haven't pulled that from the trailers. In all honesty I'm not sure how you really make a 40k MMO when the universe is so focused on race vs. race and each race being extremely specific with looks/classes (at least when converted to game form). It's one reason WAR was so stupid (not to forget it was made by Mythic using an extremely horrible game engine).

Ideally I'd take the game down the route of putting players in a system - preferablly hive worlds - and having them play from the perspective as an Imperial member (Arbite, Guard, Inquisitor, Assassin, etc.) or taking the roll of some invasion force attacking that system such as Chaos Cults, Genestealer Cults, Dark Eldar, etc. However that isn't a popular route because you ignore the main selling point of the franchise; Space Marines. But in all honesty are Space Marines an ideal game concept to play? They don't have a ton of personality, they are war-born soliders and nothing else, they all look the same roughly making it hard in a game setting to give players individualty from one another.

But that being DMO also looks to be using the successful WoW formula. From what I've seen there hasn't been anything to separate it from the pack of other MMOs coming out - all of which are bringing unique features to the table (Tera, SW, GW 2, Secret World, ArcheAge, etc.). I'd be a little more hopeful if the game had multiple faction combat instead of faction vs. faction (and I really hope they don't stupidly mix races such as Imperium/Eldar/Tau vs. Chaos/Orks/Dark Eldar) and use some of the vehicle/large combat fields/cover systems they've talked about - maybe then I'd get my hopes up. But as of now the game looks pretty standard and is using a formual that hasn't worked for this franchise previously in an MMO setting. I think the largest problem with taking GW games to an RPG setting is that their races/classes are so specified that you can't do race/class combos. Makes things difficult.

Anyway. Not my most organized thoughts but I'm at work...
