Not bad game . . . does it get better though?

Got in the free trial and at level 6 so far. The graphics are stunning for sure. The UI however seems a bit off though, and something about the game seems strange. I know its a Korean game, so curious if I just need to get used to the "strangeness" and give this game a chance? Usually, i play new games for at least a few hours straight. This one not so much, even though I loved the graphics right away. Can't yet put my finger on whats missing . . . .

I'm doing the trail and I have to agree with you.
The only reason I'm not subbing is because I got tired of the ganking byt the higher levels on the lower levels, in Lineage 2.
And after reading a few posts I see it's the same in Aion.

which posts did u read? 2 year old ones?
high lvls cant go to low lvl areas. and also there is a buff on rifting in low lvl areas which makes it almost impossible to be ganked from enemies.
im playing the trial too and digging it so far. Sucks though that you cant communicate with anyone else at all. Not sure if I picked a good server or not, but I think I may just buy it after my trial is up
ganking is no longer a big thing in this game, from what I have read there is harsh penalties for people who do it

nope no chat, tells, anything. You can group with people and talk though, basically just random inviting is the only way to get in a group though. I guess on a good note it blocks gold spammers, so its some what understandable. It would be nice if there was 1 channel that trial players could at least talk in though

you can. you just have to wait until level 10. it was designed that way for gold farmers and spammers. at level 10 you can group and everything. it's lik Ctrl + V or something, I forget. But don't listen to the person below you. They are a hater, if they weren't they would have mentioned that once you hit 10 you can. Play the game until 20 and see what you think. You can group, etc...also, a word of advice...don't bother with Aether gathering (in the sky) until you're 30. If you wait until 30 you have more flight time and it won't be a pain in the ass...
Aion is a good game ...one of my favorites! You still get ganked..instead of high level gank you ..you ganked by a group of them your level..lol! Or punk ass assassins who wait till your health is low from fighting a mob than gank you from behind.
Im not sure how limited the trial is , but ya lvl 1-9 you cant use the chat system.

ok, first of all, there really isn't much of that nowadays in Aion. Oh, there is some but if one pays attention one can bypass it for the most part. On top of that, if you do get killed you lose a very small amount of abyss points and "1" adena.
That's it.
I've come to the conclusion that getting "ganked" really is akin to little kids learning how to swim. You see, as an adult you want to tell them that if they hold their breath and put their heads under water and relax then it will seem a little weird but they quickly should realize that "nothing bad happens".
but what does happen is that little kids hold on to their preconceptions of all the bad things that might happen so they don't relax and they never get used to what amounts to little more than "strangeness".
Getting back to my first point, rifting gives the defending players a greater defense/attack bonus so it has essentially lessened rifting and ganking. Still, you do see it.
The other day I was working on an alt but "PAYING ATTENTION TO THE COMPASS LIKE ANY GOOD PLAYER SHOULD" and saw the square "red" dot that meant it was an opposing player. Since the compass gives a decent range I ran the other direction and the player couldn't catch me. Easy enough.
@op: the game does change quite a bit from lvl 10 to 20 and then it changes again at 20.
So if you are enjoying yourself it might behoove you to stick around and see for yourself whether these changes are "for you".
lvl's 1-9 are honestly not what the game is about. oh sure, they set you up a bit with story and allow you to fool around with a class but those levels dont give you the whole picture. Heck, you can't be a ranger until lvl 10. So if you wanted to start your career as a bow user you really have to wait until you get the choice to pick assassin or ranger at lvl 10. That's a difference right there. Same with mages. You can't be a spirit master until lvl 10.
I don't agree with how they did it but nothign to do about it. At lvl 10 you get your wings. At lvl 20 you can enter the abyss. The abyss is a faction vs faction area so you can get killed.
just remember that putting your head under water while holding your breath won't cause you to explode.

Its sad that lower levels are less enjoyable then they used to be, but it does get alot more fun later on. Leveling is being made a little easier now though with the mentoring system. Higher levels can mentor people, and the people being mentored get higher exp. You have to work for a lot of what the game has to offer, but if you take the time it can be a blast.
As for ganking of lower levels thats not really an issue. From time to time while in elten and especially in Heiron on the elyos side you'll get jumped by people who have made alts with uber gear just to kill you. You have to just move to a different area unless you think you can take them. The group gank squads are annoying while leveling, but avoidable and only happen every so often.
I quit the game a while back because they were taking to long to fix bugs. I can't say I'm happy with how they handle them now, but they are at least trying to get things fixed. I came back and releveled a sorc to about 53 so far, and it was fun. If you want to level smoothly with plenty of parties I think tanks are in big demand at the moment. Also, there are plenty of legions out there that will take lower level characters and help you along the way.
This game will just get better with the more people that play it. Its biggest issue at the moment is a smaller population then it started with, and some unbalanced numbers for races (Zikel is hurting for Asmos, please send some).
I think the game is worth a try.

So now i'm thinking about buying it off of ebay for less than 10 bucks. Anyone know if i should wait and spend more for the assualt on baleurea or just get the original box for less than 10 bucks?
thanks, was only level 9, still a little frustrating though to not be able to chat, I should be able to hit 10 today though.
is there a suggested server for high pop to be on? faction?
btw im not a hater, am enjoying AION quite a bit so far. Just unknowledgable
why do u wanna spend more? if u buy aion u will get all patchs for free. the only benefit u would get if u buy assault on balaurea in store is the pet which is usually sold on ncsoft store.
well it depends on you. If I was starting I might take Vaizel as it's pretty balanced.
However, Zikel despareatley needs asmos so if you are going asmo and want a bit of a challenge then come to zikel.

Unless something has changed this is what you can expect from Aion:
1) A lot of quests and objectives you'll have to completely ignore because you won't find any groups for lower level content.
2) Ganking lower level players isn't the only problem. You'll have to deal with people who have been collecting gear for the past several years (somehow they managed to stay in the game that long)! I recall picking up my first few "orange" level gear when the game was first released giving me increased movement speed (HUGE for pvp) and some other nifty bonuses that really changed things up
I've tried to give Aion several chances over the years and it lets me down each time. Older games that don't have any auto-grouping features are pretty much dead pre-endgame. I'm sorry to say, but it's enjoyable to level from 1-79+ in wow because you have a dungeon finder that groups you with people from 100's of other servers. I play MMO's because I want to play with other players and sitting around in town or grinding by myself while spamming group/global channels trying to find someone to play with isn't my idea of fun most days =(
Fortunately this is free right now and hopefully lets you play long enough to get the idea for yourself!
1) thats not true. especially since we have the metoring system its very easy to find ppl to help u. and one more advice: join a legion/guild and everything will be easier.
2) ganking lower lvl players is a lie - or u just didn't played for a very very long time. as i said before there is a buff on rifting which makes it almost impossible to be ganked. and if u like to pvp then its also very easy atm to get the lvl 40 pvp elite set which is enough to kick some arses (im usin it too).
well you didnt reached the endgame so you cant talk about this game. but i can tell u that on the telemachus server sometimes my pc is overloaded because the big crowd in inggision. and also the grouping window is always full off grps lookin for members for instances, pvp etc.
the only thing i agree with u is that the auto grping function would be nice. but the rest of your post is just nonsense.
