There is/was a live forum debate with Smed about PS Next on the PS Universe forums.
No post here about it?
WOW, not good.
Perhaps MMORPG is not the place to make news about probably the best new (upgrade) MMO ever to be released. I can't believe that all these debates about no levels, no quests, old style MMOs with real combat and no one notices this ?! Amazing....

Being that SOE has cut alot of jobs hard to say PS will ever make it out. So why talk about a game that may never make it to A-beta ????

There are a few possible explanations.
1. They simply didn't notice. I honestly doubt that the MMORPG.com staff sits around and reads every possible thread about every possible game that could, you guessed it, possibly exist. Maybe some of their staff is on furlough already?!
2. They noticed but didn't think it was news worthy. Just because a game you are interested in (I've got a raging hard-on for PS-Next myself) had some news worthy event doesn't mean they think it is. Which other sites have commented on it?
...that's about all I could come up with in three minutes. Anyone else have some?
Like i said before with all the lay offs over at SOE PS-Next may not make it to beta stage.

There are like 3 screen shots and a few 1-2 quotes that really tell nothing about PlanetsideNext and it was aiming to release last quarter or this quarter.
I thought planetside was a cool shooter game, but without any real information I don't want to let my imagination fill in the gaps for what could be in the sequel.
Also, It isn't a good sign when a game is this close (or past) its estimated release date and there is almost zero information about it.
Duly noted, though you might want to read for yourself, yourself.
The article states thoroughly that PS:Next and the EQ-title is getting focus.
"The intent, SOE said, was to focus on its upcoming MMOs based on its extant IPs: PlanetSide Next and EverQuest Next."
Also, there are other articles saying the same thing basically.
"The layoffs had nothing to do with PS Next being delayed a bit. That's simply a function of us updating the underlying technology to allow some cool new things we are doing."

So far the information on PS:N has been extremely shallow, players ingame PS are already giving up and canceling. I renewed a month ago myself after not playing since 2004 and I'm seeing that the population is dropping.
Incase you did not go over to PlanetSide Universe forums the main producer gave an explanation on various points of the new game and how it certainly is going to happening soon (tm) ....
I would recon on a 2012 release date minimum.
Well it is a good decision to focus on EQ and PS.... stil the best MMOs i ever played :-) !
