Roma Victor(open pvp)

ErmacErmac Member Posts: 103
Roma Victor is going to start accepting more people for beta I believe.  It is 1/2 scale size of western europe with open pvp.  Also, the pvp is totally based on the skill of the player being twitch based.  Everything in game is burnable too for those village raiders.

well I'm personally really looking forward for RV, and you are able to "escape" the PvP issue.. just become a roman and live within the walls, then nothing will hurt you, exept if the barbarian hords masses into armies and burn the whole crap down, well all options are open. It's gonna be a great! game..

Well open PvP is always fun, but I hope they don't have a high death penalty, you have the potenial to get ganked easy in open PvP, especially when out numbered or " gang raped "

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

Hopefully it won't be open PVP everywhere.  I know from Game Design school that Open PVP everywhere = Elite players sitting in newbie areas killing off noobs for no reason; this leads to noobs leaving quickly and eventually the low migration of noobies with the mortality rate of player interest will eventually make the game fall under.

ya this game does look interesting. oh the possibilities because people have always said I was born in the wrong time frame I need to be in Rome or Athens back 2000 or so years ago

Yep I heard its got twitch based combat which is influenced by your skills too. That rocks! None of this SWG shot a flag for half an hour nonsense or "I'll just go have my dinner and watch a movie then see if its dead yet" c*$p.

The game concepts sound nice. However, the screenshots completely turn me off. I'm not a graphics whore but the scenery just looks so boring in RV. It's so lifeless and bland looking. I don't think I could have fun in that dull of an atmosphere. I know it's still in beta but I get the feeling it won't be looking any better.

  • TannayrTannayr Member Posts: 111

Wow Cleffy, you must have went to an online game design school, cause you couldn't be farther from the truth.

Open PvP everywhere does = elite players camping newbs, but it also = even eliter players forming groups to bounty hunt the elite players camping newbs.

It's how shadowbane was since the begining, and if you read posts or ask people why they left Shadowbane, it wasn't because they got camped by elite rpkers.

So basically your theory is pretty wrong.

As stated on Roma Victor's forums, most of the effects are turned off so they can tweak and fine-tune the servers.  Then they will turn them on, as well as accepting more people in.

There will be parts in roma victor where it is safe to go. Big towns etc. because there are guards there to protect you.

A very good aspect is the fact that when you get killed you lose or have chance of losing your gear and items you have with you. (i don't know what the drop ratio is).

But this gives pvp risk and that always results in very high adrenaline fighting.

A part of the game will be instanced as well if i'm not mistaken so when you are doing an instanced mission i don't think you'll have to worry about gangs ganking you.

The npc minions idea looks really swell and when you go in a 8 vs 8 fight and add 7 x 16 minions you'll get some very large scale battles.

So i think it is safe to say that this game will have a bright future.

As far as having parts of Roma Victor that are heavily gaurded, you are correct.  Rome, as well as the other major Roman cities, should be orderly with a strong presence of Roman law.

So far as PvP and item dropping: you drop *everything* when you die in PvP combat, and *nothing* when you die to an NPC.

However, the latter part of your post is confused with another game (Gods & Heroes).  There is no instancing, to my knowledge, in Roma Victor.  It is a half-scale, real Europe.  It is the land of the Roman empire and outlying regions for everyone to explore.  So... when you're traveling, there is no instancing, and you can be in danger: don't travel alone.  You can hire NPCs to gaurd you, however, and while they are not called "minions" (as in Gods & Heroes), there is no explicit limit (at least at the moment) on how many you can hire.  And, of course, there's always the opportunity to join and travel with a legion or a warband.

Also, it should be noted that people who spend their lives killing innocent travelers will have one hell of a time getting back out of the underworld when they die.  The difficulty of your recovery from your own death will be directly proportional to the difficulties you have caused in life.  Theoretically, this will discourage some of the random killing.  Interesting plan, eh?

But if you want perfect safety, you want to stay within Rome or similarly protected cities.

Someone mentioned the dead penalties in this game.

Here is MY UNDERSTANDING of how the deathpenalties work from reading their site and a large chunk of the message boards. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

When you die in RV you are taken to Elysium. You must find your way out to return to life. People that have lived noble lives will find it rather simple to work their way out while people who have lived less than worth lives will have a more difficult time.

RV also has Legends, that when die, have a permadeath. A legend is someone who has basicly earned the title of Legend. I'm not sure exactly how this is done but it is NOT an easy task. It is also 100% optional. A legend will have extra benefits given to them but they also stand to perma die. From my understanding when a Legend dies they will have their own statue built for them in their own home town.

As far as the graphics go... I am not thrilled with them but I believe this will be a good thing. It will, hopefully, keep all of the l337 uber pkpkpkpkpkpk ok n00bz..... OUT OF THIS GAME. image

I'd rather have great gameplay and crappy graphics at the beginning then vice-versa. It's a lot harder to overhaul gameplay and balance once an MMO gets settled (EVE for example).

May the best man (me) win.

nice to see some very loyal RRA members out recruiting here ::::01::

norriscj, your understanding of the death system is correct, and yes, constant PvPers will have a harder time getting out of Elysium than some peaceful farmer, no need for the soldiers teleporting back into the battle right after they die aye?

Remember how UO looked?  Graphics completely crap but the gameplay was awesome.  It's the same thing here.  While the graphics aren't so great right now, the gameplay looks great and they will improve the graphics.

Roma Victor would probably be one of the best mmo’s out on the market if it had a big game budget.  But if by some miracle they pull this game off, they way it is outlined, then I think this game will be simply amazing!
