Looking for Crafting Game

GreytokGreytok Member Posts: 1

I have been playing Runs of Magic since January (5 and a bit months and my first ever MMORPG) and have finally had enough of the poorly constructed game and the constant bugs and crashes.

What I did like about RoM was the crafting. So ideally I'm looking for a new game with crafting and some sort of "seige" that actually works - meaning you can't get shot by an opponent on the other side of a 10 foot thick castle wall.

Would like a "free" game but would seriously consider a p2p game.

RoM really isn't free - to succeed in it you have to spend real money.

Any suggestion welcome.

Thanks!

EvE is great game with strong player economy , there are a lot of crafting envolved starting from gathering raw mats/components and collecting blueprints ( recipies ) which u can research to lowerused mats .. etc . Even not all blueprints are bought from market , some higher rated blueprints need u to work with research agent to get them if lucky .

EvE does have siege kinda battles , players can build POS ( player owned station ) which u can attack and destroy ( mostly in fleet action ) . EvE  can offer large scale battle envolve big ships .

There aren't any free games like that. Eve is B2P, P2P, and especially time consuming.

Fallen Earth is going Freemium, so if you can wait a little bit check that out.

There is also Haven and Hearth which is essentially 3 games in one. You can craft items, build buildings, and fight wildlife and other players, although the game is so involved and the skill ranking system is so crazy, that you'll probably spend all your time doing one of the three.  It's also free to play.

    For the games I played:

Everquest 2 has the most interesting crafting system in my opinion, and that is free now right ?

Many like Vanguard crafting, though it didn't fall in my taste, it is definately advanced and I am sure a welcome addition to a guild (but require sub).

I think the only free game that has most of what you are looking for is istaria.  This was formerly called horizons.  So long as you play a human and the normal "playing completely free isnt quite as good as playing paid" mantra you are fine.  Personally I prefer playing a dragon in that game which certainly requires paying, but for what you are looking for, a human would work fine.  It might actually be better than dragon in some ways for what you are looking for.

It had a lot of classes and you could pick up as many as you liked.  There was a fair deal of overlap but you would want one thing for +7 per level for that stat instead of +5 where it was a more secondary thing.

At any rate it is definitely worth looking at.

Another game which has some of what you want would be "A mystical land" but that games crafting gets so harsh at high levels I considered it ridiculous.  But if you are willing to put in the time (and I suggest one character per primary finishing skill -- 2 accounts does it(it can play on an old portable at low settings)) even though you can technically do everything on one character mainly so your points come back faster and you have more secondary skills to get freebie resets (whenever you level a skill you get all your points back so a good strategy is to work your skill up to say 5 and when you are about to run out of points, take a level 1 skill to level 2.  Then going from 5 to 6 do the same and 6 to 7 do the same -- eventually you run out of things that give you more than you put in but by that time....  Plus since you need to make so many subcomps at lower levels it lets you not waste points later either because you can do them on the lower levels etc...)

Vanguard and Ryzom both have good crafting. Vanguard isn't free, but it's definitely one of the best crafting setups I've seen in an MMO.

Ryzom's crafting is deep and is tightly bound with harvesting. The quality and bonuses of the stuff you craft is based on the materials you use and your skill level. It's a mix of skill and luck to make the very best stuff. And you get different results by mixing different mats.

Ryzom is free to play up to skill level 125, and then you can't advance any further. That's still plenty of time for you to figure out if it's worth paying for.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN
