it looks cool i reminds me off L2 a little.
so whats the basic of this game? how is PVP? is RVR a big deal* i am used to DAOC style*
if it takes while to level up that is ok as long there is some cool quest with some story to it. what is the level cap?
anything else on info you can give please do that would be awsome.
oh and what is the best server to start on?
Comments
If you want to start on a pretty balanced server then Vaizel. otherwise, the other servers will be balanced in favor of Elyos. Becuase of this the Asmo side gets incentives for people who roll asmo such as faster leveling.
Honestly, all the info you need to know is already out there so I feel that anything I would say would just be a regurgitation of what I have been writing since I was in beta.
However...
It's not like L2. Oh, the art design is similar in some cases as I believe it's the same head artist who did both. There are similarities in some aesthetics though I will say that Aion has a somewhat more (not sure what term I want) "earthy" and "organic" sense to the armor and weapons. The world is a bit more whimsical. However, for the most part the world is not as open as it is in L2.
I find that I prefer the L2 sieges better. The castles are designed better for sieging and there is a certain pride in ownership that I just don't get with the Aion sieges. Having said that, I like that in Aion everyone can show up to a siege. However, on Zikel our sieges aren't really that exciting. It's as if the Elyos really don't that the asmos take a few token forts.
Some of the pvp in the Gelkamos (or however that is spelled) can be fun.
L2 was a grind game. Aion is not a grind game even thoug some people think it is. If you have played L2 the you will fully realize this when you log into the game and start taking quests. The nice thing is you don't have to take quests though it is somewhat advisable to do some of the main quests.

Been 5-6 months since i last played, cancled my account after spending all my time weaveing through all the Bots, all Node spawns for all crafts have a spacific spawn point and it doesnt take much for automation to run between nodes and harvest em all, PVP was fun for awhile but it was Highly Unbalanced ( not sure if it stil is) , Great Graphics, small world, good physics, crafting was fun but the economy is shot from gold sellers ( just have to adjust ).
Good Luck fellow old school mmo'r
Now playing Rift, real small world, Grinding Same dungeons 3-4 times each, each day, grind out a raid from time to time,
In search of another MMO that has a sence of adventure, and real content.
ah ok thanks for the info man! i will go to that server i dont like playing for a over powered faction or a faction already dead lol.
for classes whats good for a hybrid vclass? i always love playing those types.

ok take a deep breath.
he is talking about the bots that run from node to node. It sucks but they exist. Still, I find plenty of nodes around should I want to gather resources. There are a few leveling bots but not many. And by the way, all successful games have some sort of botting or rmt or "whatever" so unless you want to just quit mmo's all together I wouldn't sweat it.

don't listen to that guy dude. he is talkin crap. the bot problem was solved 1 year ago. and in the chat u maybe see 1 goldseller in a month (i actually seen the first one after maybe 3-4 months a week ago).
I played Aion up to level 35 and really enjoyed my time there. The entire time I was playing, however, I was also reading the forums and studying up on what to expect at higher levels. The anger and bitterness of so many players was so prevalent that I began to wonder if it was worth investing a lot more time in this game when it sounded like all I could expect at higher levels was frustration. I read the forums enough to know that it is a cesspool of whiners and complainers but even so I was surprised at the amount of anger I found.
It was one discussion in particular that was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Someone was talking about how difficult and time consuming it was to find rare materials to complete a certain high level quest once and that he had failed 6 times in a row. I had already noted that Aion had built frustration into some aspects of the game even at lower levels, so to hear that this was even possible just made me say to hell with it. I play these games for fun, not to see how frustrated they can make me.

so u stopped playin just bc some posts on the forums even u had fun playin? sry but that doesnt make sense to me. if i enjoy somethin then i will keep doin it till im fed up by it.
and let me tell u how those forums work. im playin this game since the open beta and have several lvl 50+ chars (main is cleric 55). but i rarely post on forums and when i do then i mostly post QQ and flame threads (especially on general discussion). biggest problem what aion atm has is the rng system. and if u read the threads carefully then u will recognize that all moanin is about the rng system. its by far not that bad like its written in the posts but in my opinion the best way to let the devs know how the community feels is the overactin on the forums.
My thougth is that you should have quit when "you" weren't having fun. Not what others "claimed" was the time they weren't having fun.
So much complaining from so many people that if I listened to a fraction of them I would never have been playing these games in the first place.

The only thing it needs to be repaired its the RNG (manastones, craft, enchantment; rng on combat - godstones proc's and so on)
Anyway the game its btter than ever with lots of stuff to do and this new mentor system it really rocks and i think it will be copied by some other companies(Blizzard).
There are sieges every day and they are Zergs Vs Zergs (slow FPS and heavy LAG),
BOTS are almost non existent since 1 year
Yes, a large part of the anger was definitely over the RNG. Failures at crafting, failures at quests that involve crafting, failures with manastones, etc. Some of these failures involve a large amount of time and expense and seem so unnecessary and frustrating that it is difficult to understand why the devs would build this pain into the game.
The other thing that was making people angry was max level PVP and gearing. It just sounded like there wasn't enough PVP and gearing up was ridiculously painful with boss drop rates that are so low that you have to do dungeons dozens of times to even have a chance to get a single piece of gear.
Normally I would agree with you guys and say stop playing when you are no longer having fun, but in this case felt like I got a heads up to a couple of things that just aren't acceptable in my MMOs. That is, pain and frustration built into the game by devs that don't seem to care whether it is unnecessarily harsh.

When Aion launched there was a serious bot and gold seller problem that gave it a bad rep but that has been squished for the most part, I can confirm that. I have a 50 templar and its a fun class to play. They are very hard to kill in pvp the skills you get really do make your survivability pretty great and thats what makes us dangerous in a fight. Its much easier to make kinah in the game now than it used to be and you will start to feel rich with all the millions you accumulate.I agree that lineage 2 castle sieges have more heart in them because there is that pride......but with that said mass pvp in aion can just be plain fun.
awsome that is good news i hope they do have some magic thou i love hybrid classes no idea why lol.

No real nukes or anything like a sorc no but templar has amazing self heals . Hand of Healing heals you instantly for 100% of your hp Empyrean armor recovers hp by 25% increases hp by 50% your health regen by 50% and u recieve less damage from pvp.
Iron skin removes all debuffs from you and reduces damage inflicted on you by 50% for 30 seconds.
these skills make you a freight train...there are also quite nice defensive toggles if youre using a board and sword style of play instead of a greatsword
thats cool. i am looking more for sword/shield

I will answer you OP as another very old school gamer
Aion is maybe the best, imo, quest driven themepark MMORPG out there today. It didnt launch like that, but right now I think it is. I went back for the recent reactivation event and resubbed, and wil probably play until GW2 comes along (if it delviers). I am finding it a lot of fun to be back and the pop seems healthy and pretty civilised (v easy to get a guildand groups in my experience).
It has a beautiful game world that the recent upgrade has only made better. No other game feels 'otherworldly' like Aion to me... It's probably my favourite MMORPG gameworld to play in if I am honest. I also love the character models and animations/ emotes. They have upped the drops (noticably) and kinah is easy to make, XP is also easier now by a long shot (I am missing out a ton of Qs, and even entire areas like Theo because I dont need the XP and they are grey)
It's not perfect, there still is grind, be prepared for that, and it's not a game for the entitled or instant gratification crowd. There is also a lot of RNG in it, which may or may not bother you. The open world PvP has been nerfed (which I approve of, though many bitch about it still), though there is still a ton of fort fights etc going on, though the classes are in no way balanced if I am honest and the focus on level/ gear makes a huge difference in a fight. Choose your server and faction wisely
I would definetly say try it, I think if it had launched in the state it is now it would have a sub base in the millions right now, but that chance has gone and other (I think) lesser games like Rift have snagged Aion's target audience in a big way. The game is still vibrant and alive though, and each free 'expansion' is worthwhile and adds a lot to the experience.
I play on Perento (EU) server and have to say the faction balance seems to be in favour of Asmo.
I agree with Vesavius. If the launch was smoother Aion would be a giant in NA/EU.....I hear so many people saying *aion failed* and for a period of time it was looking that way.....but those people saying that have no clue that the games population is very healthy. When i log in and see the starter areas full of low levels i grin that the haters dont even know better because they came to the conclusion that Aion failed many months ago.Ive wanted Aion to do well and im glad its heading there...i def like seeing the adverts on this website all the time!!!!
Well, at launch Iwould say it did 'fail', though not numbers wise but in obviously not in achieveing what it was aiming to be (which should be the only measure of success and failiure, numbers are actually irrelevant imo as long as I can get a group and the game is actively supported).
But yes, you are right, there are a ton of newbies on my server and lower level content is still done tons (judging by the recruit groups in LFG).
It's a shame, if NCS had given this game another year cooking then it could have been this from the start, because as we know the masses flock to games at that point and form rock solid perceptions of a game forever. In this case, thats a shame.
This a good game I liked the graphics and layout of the game but too me there are too many games out there just as good if not better that are free to play so to me this is not woth the money to play. I find that the play to pay games are slowly dieing since there are so many new games coming out that are just as good or better for free. If they made this a free to play game I might consider going back to it but until then I will not bother waisting monthly fees for something I can get for free else where.
Whodfmi
rofl good joke.
but actually the real joke are ppl who think a f2p game is gonna be cheaper for them then a p2p..at the end u will be forced to pay more money on the f2p games then p2p games. thats my experience from 7 years playin mmos (f2p and p2p). and also a f2p game would mean mass botting/hackin/goldselling and a community full of jerks. so hf fun on your bott games
You can avoid pvp if you want almost completely. They have nerfed rifting so its not a big part of the game now. I play aion to pvp but i unsubbed at one point because i would get ganked non stop by twinks decked out in gold gear and that just sucked all the fun out of trying to level....that has all changed.I think the only time you wont be able to avoid pvp now is from level 50-55 because that part of the map is like *ground abyss*
I agree, I have tried several ftp games and not one can hold a candle to Aion and what it offers. They all feel a bit "junky". Even Forsaken World which isn't badly "put together" doesn't feel the same, feels sort of "cheap" in comparison.
Unless someone wants to compare it to LOTRO or one of the recent pvp games changed to f2p.
