Just got this in my email.
If you haven't and do want to, now's the time.
Edit: A post below points out that it doesn't come with the month of play time. (The site also points that at too, I just hate sparkly websites.)

I saw this (the slightly higher cost on the site though) earlier and am pretty pissed. I paid 40 for the game a week ago. Oh well.
The heck?, it was like 40$ just 2 weeks ago?
I dont know if this is a good or bad thing.
Doesn't even come with a free month
yeah i just read it..says it comes with no play time..if i read correct.
I bought the CE edition when it came out. Rift was fun till endgame so I moved on. Was fun so not flaming it. Just all these price drops makes it seem Rift is a mmo whore or something, trying to get as much money as it can before it's worn out.
lol wow. Didn't see that.
editing op a little

Yeah, I saw that too, so it's really 24.98 after you include the necessity of paying for a month of sub.
Meaning the special really is... you save a whopping $0.01 off reg edition

Rift....the wow killer right here guys!
Hows that Queen song go?
Another One Bites the ?
Ok guys ..everyone back to Azeroth!
I already got my digital copy for £15, so this sale means nothing to me.
Are you guys blind? It's a freaking limited time offer Father's Day sale and you're acting like they killed your dog. Go look up the definition of sale and learn to read. Jeez. I spent full price for my CE and I'm not complaining.
ageed ^^ they are doing what they need to do to get even MORE subs...if you really think they are doing this because they are light on subs your just kiddin your self ...rift is alive and doing VERY well +id take Trion's team over any team atm those guys get it and we are geting it...and for free
I'm not sure if my post is included in what your refering to, but I'm not upset with my purchase. I just would have liked to save a little money.
That's a smart move, IMO. I think you'll see MMO's doing that alot. If they really want to avoid server merges, they have to start discounting much earlier than standard single player games.
In most cases, if you were willing to pay $50 for Rift, you would have done it at launch or soon after. If not, you either have a number you're willing to pay, or you're not interested at all. (well, duh, right?) MMO's should seek to find those people as soon as the opening rush starts dying.
No big deal really. Paying $10 w/o the month would be like paying $25 with the month included so you're only out $15 from your $40 purchase.
My overall opinion is this price reduction will be one of several last efforts to reign in subs because they know TOR, GW2 and Tera are going to assualt their sub base by Q4 2011 or into 2012.
Still though Rift is a good themepark mmo, just tired of the same old mmos personally.
Are they doing what SOE did with DCUO, charging Euros and Aussies more than US players?
I know they sent the $9.99 US to U.S. players but I have a U.K. bud from another game says he clicked but got redirected to a Euro site where it costs more for RIFT than that.
Anyone know what the real skinny is on this?

Doesn't matter anyways because the site's broken and you can't buy the game.
blank
It was originally $9.99 not including game time. And since posters from all over started saying that it's a bit misleading and quite frankly, unethical, lo and behold, the site has been changed. It now says $24.99 which includes the first month of gameplay.
I think the game is okay but it's too much like WoW which is why I didn't decide to buy it. But I'm starting to see more of their marketing techniques and I don't like it. They don't want to be compared to WoW but they have the whole "You're not in Azeroth" slogan. Hartsman goes to say there are almost 1 million customers, which isn't the same as subs but his choice of words can create misinformation. And now this sale where initially you could buy the game but it didn't include the first month.
They would do themselves a favor by being upfront with their statements instead of having their marketing department running the show.
Yeah, I'm a little irritated at their presentation too. I just about bought it at $10 when I saw this email but I'm glad I stopped by here first to read up on the news. It's not a huge thing, but they know every person buying it for $10 has no choice but to pay $15 more to use what they just purchased. It's clearly misleading and they should've realized that beforehand. $25 is still a good sale so I'm thinking about it... The problem is it only costs me $15 to return to the game they copied... or free to catch up with some other Bioware RPGs I haven't finished and come back to MMOs with the release of SWTOR.
I paid 40 USD for the game and I think it was worth it so far. I've gotten more hours out of it by level 24 than I get out of most 60USD xbox 360 games I buy. Also, the rifting adds another aspect to the game. I actually felt motivated once to run across the zone just to kill a boss. (Something that I've never done.) And because of all the Rifts and major invasions and dungeons I ended up being level 23 with level 15 quests because i was able to do other things to level.
Worth a bit of time as long as you take it slow and enjoy the sights instead of rushing to max. I'm level 24 currently so take my opinion for the grain of salt that it is. Just trying to sway you
Thank you for the response. It's good to hear from someone enjoying it. I think I'm secretly hoping to end up anywhere but Azeroth again lol I thought Trion did a great job with the graphic style when I tried it on a free weekend, and I imagine I could probably get a lot out of just wandering and exploring (already achieved world explorer on two toons in WoW).
I'm kinda weighing it against the recent Aion 2.5 update also. My problem with Aion is I can spend an entire night exploring and wandering around but end up with nothing to really show for it on my character. It's gotten to the point where I know I won't accomplish much so it's hard to login. I would enjoy it, but there's just a nagging reminder that I'm not getting much out of my $15 if all I want to do is look at things lol I can do that on youtube. With Rift though, I felt more like it was impossible to not run in to something to pickup or do whenever I wandered around. I loved the alien invasions in Tabula Rasa, very similar to rifts, that would randomly spawn around the map. I could do those all night.
Does the amount of content and available rifts continue steadily past level 15 to 50? That's probably the answer that will sway me one way or another. I'm not worried about endgame content because I never cared for raiding and would just take it slow with leveling or jump in to other aspects like crafting or random achievements at that point. I just don't want to hit level 30 or so and suddenly find only a 1/4 of the playable content of previous tiers like what happened in Tabula Rasa.
edit: clarified a couple of things, 2nd paragraph.
Yeah tell that to the ghost towns of Stormwind and Orgrimmar and the 600k subs that bailed on WoW.
Seriously though, Rift is doing quite well and already about to release its 3rd content patch. Something that Blizzard, despite with vastly larger resources, seems to be unable to do. Anyone who raced to 50 in Rift in the 1st week then went screaming "game sucks I'm bored" really has no one to blame but themselves. The expression "getting there is half the fun" really applies to mmos, regardless of who makes them.
I wonder how that would work for anything else:
"Yeah Bill. It's a pretty good car and I know I got charged what a Charger costs, and the top speed is only 50 right now before they finish my turbo attachment. But I just make sure I take it slow and don't go over 50 mph and I use the radio and play with the power windows a lot more."
"I know you I charged you the same price for a hamburger that Burger King and McDonald's charge and ours is much smaller. But it's a pretty damn good burger, so just put some extra lettuce and pickles and salt on it and eat it slower."
"This house costs as much as the house down the street and is going to have all the same features as the others one day, they just aren't done yet. So I bought it now and I'm taking it slow and enjoying the bottom floor until they finish the stairs so I can go upstairs."
Intentionally playing games slow. Interesting concept.

Standing around in major city with nothing to do is standing around in major city with nothing to do.
Game's been out four months, not sure what you're talking about racing to 50.
"TO MICHAEL!"
Bored and looking for things to play but falling for this, the worst kind of marketing? I won't do. $25 i might have bought it at some point but removing the 30 days free at any $ is downright nasty. All P2P MMO's come with 30 days free and they're relying on that assumption to make box sales @$9.99 and then subscription numbers to tout.
