Um, there quite a few.The witcher 1 and 2.Esp the second is great.Fallout 3 and new vegas are both great as well.Mass effect 1 and 2 esp 2.The witcher 2 and mass effect 2 are prolly the best on that list and both look great and have great stories.

I pikced up Guild wars 1, and it has turned out to be a really balanced rpg.  Missions from accension on are really demanding with henchmen, recommend it.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

The Witcher 2 is amazing imho, and you don't really need to have played the first game to jump right into the story, the Prologue for the Witcher 2 gives you more than enough information to be able to pick it up and go regardless of whether you ever played the first game in the series.

I think you'll enjoy it, it is a very well done single player RPG, with a ton of content.

I'm not sure if you would call it a RPG, but Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood fits most of those categories

    It has

    • great gfx,

    • amazing story (I would really say it is one of a kind here, a blend of history with sci-fi and fantasy of both),

    • full control of character (you climb buildings and jump everywhere....),

    • freedom(theres no level restrictions, so you can run around killing guards everywhere, complete races and other side missions, but warning here, the entire city isn't availble to you at first, you need to advance in the main story to unlock it)

    • it isn't too difficult, in terms of dying, if you are careful, you probably wouldn't die too much.....unless you jump off a high tower or something, but in terms of missions, in brotherhood, there is a new feature that you have to complete the mission is a certain style to acquire full synchronization, so I guess difficulty arises from failing missions or challenges, instead of from enemies which would kill you all the time (like witcher for an example), because the game is mainly a stealth base game, a challenge also arises from the idea of the need to be hidden most of the time.

    • action, you jump off rooftops and use a hidden blade to kill two armored guards at once, need more examples?

note: the first assassin's creed isn't too great in my opinion, I never really finished the game myself, the mechanics in there is fun, but the mission gets a bit repetitive, so skipped that one if you like. But for Assassin's Creed 2 and AC:Brotherhood, possibly my favourite game series right now, just beware that it isn't a traditional RPG, meaning you don't create your own character, but will be playing in the main character of the story.

ps: I advise if starting these two games, do play from AC:2 first, Brotherhood is basically picking up from the end of the AC:2, and you probably won't get the story if you havn't played that one first.

have fun with any game you choose :)

As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.

The best single player RPG is any of the recent MMORPG releases lol

or not so recent ones that patched themselves into mainstream solo gameplay P

i have played assassin creed 2 and brotherhood and liked them both.

i am thinking of buying the witcher 2 and since the steam forum is not properly working here for some reason does anyone know if The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Digital Premium Edition uncencored or cencored? all the videos say: blood, gore, intense violence, nudity, stong sexual content and use of drugs while steam only notes violence and bat language.

I live in the Netherlands so steam shouldnt cencor anything i am buying at all and i only want to play the game how the devs want it to be played so uncencored.

edit: no idea why this is at the bottom but showed up when i copy pasted the games full name from steam

another edit: i just saw in one of the games update: Islamic–themed and similar textures have been deleted and/or replaced. lol these people get offended when they are not threathing the southpark creators with dead they will ruin your games

Demon Souls for the PS3, or wait until October and get Dark Souls which will be available for PS3 and 360.

Demon Souls is by far the best single player difficult RPG out there. It's multiplayer at the same time, but no one can affect your game. It's interesting on how it's implemented. You gotta try it.

Demon Souls > Witcher 2. Not saying Witcher 2 is bad. it's not bad at all. Just Demon Souls is a very unique, complex, difficult RPG. Tons of secrets. Tons of replayability.

The Elders Scrolls Oblivion for the PC is all you need if you think you could get in mods (super simple to do). If you're the type of person that likes customization or being creative, its the way to go.

The same can be said about Fallout3 and Fallout New Vegas. Dont get them on the console though. The are riddled with horrible bugs that make them unplayable. The game crashes every few hours and 80% of the quests are bugged in some way unless you play them a certain way so that the bug/glitch doesnt happen. On the PC however, modders have fixed these bugs. The devs couldnt be bothered to fix them for some reason.

oblivion is good too but you need lots of mods to make it look good as its kinda old now and the npcs look terrible.if you have the patience to mod it though, it looks good enough. The story isnt good though.Great game, one of my fav, but doenst really match what you asked for.The witcher 2 is prolly your best bet.Buy it.

Could check out Neverwinter Nights 2...I believe they have the bundle for 20$ or so, the 2 expansions included.

You also can download "stories" that players have created.

NWN is basically a DnD simulator, I enjoy it a lot though.

I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

I'm currently playing Arcania: Gothic 4. I love the Gothic series and couldn't resist.

Modding Bethesda games causes crazy crashes, even if you follow all the guides and load order, bashed patch, merge, whatever.  I've tried it all and I always end up breaking my game.

If you only go with like a handful of mods, maybe you'd be okay, but try to get the best ones and you break your game.

been playing on and off for years, and recently applies all the texture mods and quiet a few of the big content adding mods and get no problems.  Trick is to carefully read the feedback and understand what parts of the game it modified and how that sits with the other mods you have.

I've never had any real trouble using mods for Oblivion.

The only times were because I installed it wrong or caused by conflicting mods (some just don't work together), they've never broke my game though since you can just deselect them from OblivionLauncher/Data Files and problem is solved.

But as for getting into making your own mods, I don't think Oblivion is the best place to start. Torchlight and Neverwinter Nights 1 or 2 have pretty easy to use toolsets, but intially they're going to probably require some reading still.

I agree with NWN2, I found the game by itself for $4.99 in some random bin (7disc rpg for 5 bucks!? sold lol), and that was 2 years ago.

Never did finish it and just started playing it again this week, really loving it. The similarities to Dragon Age 1's gameplay and most importantly it's story are insane, it even reffer to the darkness taking over the land as a Blight a few times too lol. Not to mention some of DA's DLC like rebuilding/operating the Greywardens Keep is in NWN2 without any expansions, and done much better.

It is a much better game than DA imo too. A lot more moral/conversation decisions, classes, companions, places to go, and overall just more interesting and larger than DA (even with it's expansions).

The only problem with NWN2 is it's bugs, straight out of the box it  is completely broken, so you're going to spend a lot of time getting it's patches (it's updater is still online atleast, still looking at about 2hrs of initial install and update time), and even with it all patched up you'll come acrossed some quest triggers not working in the early parts of the game (so save multiple slots and often).
