Hey all,
I bought this game at launch and have another account but decided to setup a trial account just to check it out after what 3 years or so?
Couple of questions.. I can't seem to post on the forums there to ask any questions so I came here and noticed something about aoc going free to play. basically, at this point in time, with it going free to play should I just use this trial account or is there a way to get my old account up and running for no cost?
is there a rough break down of whats coming with this free to play thing or is it already live i dont even know..
lastly, is the game any better now? I was really turned off by lack of good gear, how the stats of gear showed and a general boredom that came from a very grindy game where I recall running out of fun quests to do that should of helped me progress..
Is there a best pve server? Im looking for the highest population possible.. if anyones played rift lately, then tried this what was your attitude towards aoc? good, bad etc.. has there been any major changes to the combat system since launch?

That's a lot of questions,,,here goes nothing
The free account is unavailable as of this writting, so 'no' there's no way to get you old account up and running for no cost (besides there will be class and number of character slots restrictions in the f2p).
I feel the game has improved tremendously in 3 years in everything from stability, graphics, leveling...even the faction grind has been greatly streamlined.
I cannot address which servers has the highest pop. or what Rift people think of it (really? should you care what rift folks think of another game lol).

In a word, it's still the same game. Ableit fixed or whatever. I did get the expansion and play it for awhile. The one thing that i instantly felt is how awesome combat is. Even just grinding quests. The combat is just the best in any mmo i have played and i really enjoyed playing it again. If i had friends that played it too i would have stayed in it again longer. The new PVP servers when they come up might be fun. It should be more like that i think. The basic flaw which will not ever go away is the instancing and getting around in the game is just not good ( moreso the older areas). The newer zones are much larger tho so it helps. If anything it's worth playing for a bit if you already own the game. But it's still the same game for the most part from what i felt. I wish the game came out better and did better than it did at launch, It was a good time for awhile until the crashing and until you got to the point of doing those stupid villa runs. I personally didn't have many issues with playing it even at launch, i didn't crash much at all, but it crashed constantly for my friends and they gave up on it. I had no issues with that the second time around, nor did the same people who did have those problems the first time around.
i was just curious if any rifters played this aoc recently.. I thought rift was awesome but got boring fast and the combat kind of sucked much like wow.. was wondering how it might compare to aoc.
Rift is like a cup of tea, plain and just doesn't jump out at you screaming drink me. Age of Conan is like a cup of Mocha-chino with cinnamon sprinkles that you want badly that when you have finished, you want more.
You can't post on the AoC forums unless you are a subscriber. I don't know if any PVE server is any more populated than another. Population is not real high, so if you are looking for a crowded MMO, this ain't it. But there are some server merges and new server tech on the way, so that could change soon.
I never played the game at launch to compare, but I had a fun time all the way to 80. Lots of very cool zones and environments to explore. Never experienced any problem with lack of content or mindless grinding, and the different areas all looked great. I did have trouble finding groups for the quests that required teaming up to complete due to the light population in the 20 - 80 content. If I had to pick a single short coming with the PVE game that would be it. Joining a guild helps a lot with this though, if you join one that is not all 80s.
With the new Conan movie coming this August, and the FtP model on the way as well, there should be some increase in population soon. In fact I think it has started picking up already.
