I always liked the way Diablo 2's summons worked. You literally had a huge army where you didn't have to control. That fat army would follow you around and jizzown everything. Looking to experience that again, but I don't want to play Diablo 2. Know of any games that has a class like that?

I am going to say the closest thing i can think of is Bloodletter in Mythos...you can have up to 6 pets running around with you
But my favorite Necro is in Guild Wars. You can have many mnay pets but they slowly die so its different. But if you really just want a huge amount of minions following you around Guild Wars is your game.
Playing: PO, EVE
Waiting for: WoD
Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO
Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.
You could look into Dungeon Fighter Online (F2P). The Summoner class can summon a fairly large army. (Not to confuse DFO's Summoner with the upcoming class called Necromancer, they're fairly different).

There's also Dofus (P2P). Osamodas class which is primarily a Summoner. Though I doubt you'd like the game since it's a turn-based game (like Final Fantasy Tactics).
That's all I can think of.
The Necro in GW was really scary before they put the cap on them. Even with the summons dying slowly, you could totally zerg rush anything that left corpses. Even with the cap on the amount of corpses, it's... what, 10 summons? Something like that. Enough to make people cry. Plus you can pretty much keep an army going nearly forever with the right spells.
That summoner actually looks like what I'm looking for. Although, I wonder when I'll get to start to get badass like that. I've also played DFO before, but wasn't too happy about the way the game works. I didn't like the town hubs and how the game felt clunky when in combat. Maybe I just wasn't used to the controls at the time and need to give it another shot?
Anyway, on the right track, but not quite there yet! If no other suggestions pop up, I may have to give DFO a chance again.
Actually, as far as MMO's go, Age of Conan has a cool necromancer class. It is based on a sort of summoning point system. You have 8 summoning points and you may summon up to 8 weaker minions or a smaller number of stronger minions, depending on the point cost of each minion. These creatures are permanent - do not die with time. You can also make a caster necro and sacrifice all those minion points for increased spell power. I think this is one of the most interesting necro implementations in any game apart from Diablo 2 (where I also loved the summoner necro:).
Funny you mentioned that. I actually played the Necromancer class in AoC. Liked it a lot but just quit subbing, because the game got boring after awhile. I specced my Necro strictly for summoning. Used that one skill that takes away your life down to like 1hp just so I can have more summoning points. I would have all those archmages up and hide behind rocks and send them out to kill other players. Hilarious as they would just run away.
