LFG with great character-creation / dress-up

RedBaloonRedBaloon Member Posts: 2

Title says most of it.  I like making characters and designing costumes and outfits for them.  Pay to play or free to play does not matter to me.  Graphics does - the prettier the graphics, the better.  Fun gameplay is nice but only as a secondary concern: what I really want to do is play giant warrior, spiffy spacer, and slender sorcerer dress-up.

Any suggestions?

Mabinogi is for you if you don't mind the graphics. A player can wear whatever they want for combat, since all clothing, all light armor, and all heavy armor have the same basic stats as there counterparts. It's the enchants that give them bonuses and make them unique.

There's a ton of variety in styles, and you can dye 3 different sections of the clothing.

I suggest Everquest 2. Every slot of armor can be displayed as deco or the gear worn for its stats, mixed and matched at will from level 1. The graphic quality is superb at higher settings if your computer can handle it. There is both a free-to-play and subscription based version--EQ2X or Extended, is the F2P version, but for several reasons I prefer to subscribe. However, the F2P version can give you a taste of the game, perhaps.

There are plenty of different types of outfits, some crafted, some quested, some drops, and some cash shop.

The game also has the best housing system I've found, in case your dressed up characters would also like to have lovely homes.

Guild Wars isn't a bad choice, either, for deco outfits, but alas, no housing.

Nothing I've seen beats champions online for customizing how you look.  Not even close.  And EQ2X for housing and being able to wear appearance clothes over your armor (though characters move oddly).

Aion has unrivaled character customization currently, albeit to the point that players can create freakish characters with completely disproportionate bodies and faces. It also has a great deal of armor models and costumes, and both armor and weapons can be reskinned. There are also dyes, although some of the more desirable colors (black and white, most notably) are only available during promotions or events.

You can check out a full gallery of armor and costumes in the game here.

Sorry, but I'd have to say poop to all the previous games listed.  Nothing I've personally played/seen has been better than Aion's character creation.  Here's a link to two vids rom before the game was released.  With version 2.5 recent release or close to being released there's supposed to be additional character creation selections I think.

    Character Clothing/Couple Emotes

Version 2.5 which has recently been released or is soon to be.  3.0 is not far in the future either I think.

Ditto to Jianyu.  You can skin armor and paste it on your other armor so you always have the look you want and never look like you sewing 6 pieces of different gear together.  They're also adding housing in 3.0.

Hey Jianyu....you Jianyu from original Zikel before merges and all?

Afraid not, resident of Lumiel / Israphel. Haven't used this name for Aion either. =X

Well.. if you don't mind playing a shooter >.>;;; ABP has by far the best character customization I've seen in an mmo and the clothing options are incredible. Just about anything humanoid you can imagine I've seen potrayed in this game.

However.. you have to be interested in a shooter since gameplay is somewhat important to you xD

    APB

    City of Heroes/Villains

    Champions Online

    Aion

They all have great character creation.

Didn't APB shut down?  I heard someone else picked it up and were calling it APB Reloaded, but I didn't think it was out yet.

  • kiteskites Member Posts: 2

It has been re-released as APB: Reloaded and its in open beta atm... but its technically launched.. They won't be doing any character wipes. Like I said the customization is incredible and the gameplay is good if you enjoy 3rd person shooters.

They're suppost to be adding some cool things in the future such as a racing district. Its F2P now so it's at least worth a look I think.. obviously not everyones cup of tea

Oh, very cool.  I remember having some interest in APB when it was in development, but I thought it was gone for good by now.  I don't mind Free To Play, mostly 'cause it's better than the damned hybrid "pay-to-play... and then pay some more to win!" that seems to be cropping up everywhere these days.  And shooters are fun, I'm just bad at them :P

Thanks for the other suggestions, too, everyone.  Keep 'em coming :)
