Which character would be best?
Hunter: Good for combat has pets, but limited by armour
Mage: Very strong but limited by mana
Warrior: probably the strongest in combat, but relies on potions
rogue: stealth and quite, but restricted by armour
druid: relies on potion and not too sure about combat
I don't like the rest of the charcters

best is completely determined by your playstyle. I play a rogue, love it. Tried a warlock, hated it. Friend of mine plays a warlock, loves it. Tried a rogue, hated it. Personal opinion as they all have strong and weak points.

There is no best overall class. Each class has it's strengths and weaknesses, so over generalizing doesn't work in trying to declare which class is best in WoW. But if I have to choose one I'd say Shaman... alot of people consider them extremely overpowered compared to the other classes. They can wear Mail armor, carry a shield, deal good melee damage, heal, cast ranged damage spells (chain lightning is insane), drop specialty totems, tranform into wolf form for increased movement speed.

Two main things to consider, which suits your play style the best and what is a viable PvP choice.
As now, I'd avoid Paladins-not very useful in PvP, and I'd also avoid the casters, being druid mage priest lock only because it seems that as more and more content is released theyre becoming worse and worse due to weapons becoming much stronger while spells are barel getting dmg buffs. Personally I'd reccomend a hunter if you like ranged or a shaman if youd like to do a little of both.
And 2 more things about your post, Hunters are hardly restricted by armor, they have the 2nd highest class in the game and are only beaten by warriors and paladins. Also, Warriors may have the highest health, but they are not by a longshot the strongest. That would probably go to hunters.
There really isn't a "BEST" profession in the game. It really depends on how you play it. I've seen Druids own rouges, hunters, warriors and palidins and vice versa. It boils down to how you play your toon and how he/she is specd. When my rouge was at lvl 49 I was able to kill a lvl 57 and 60 rouge with no problems. So really there is no "BEST" pick, play, and learn.

Well best and most important has its differences. If you want to be the best/most important in PvP then go with with hunter, or with a little more difficulty, you can get as many kills with a shaman, mage, or rogue. The other classes are good too, but the dmg of mages/hunters/rogues and the utility of the shaman make them very important in PvP. However, instances are different. The most important in the groups are usually the priests and warriors, with the other melee classes backing up the warriors and the other casters keeping the priest safe. But most importantly you should play a class that you like the most. I started as a paladin (back when crusader turned them into amazing dps dealers due to the bug) because I looked at their powers and thought they were the best, however after a while I just found out that it was extremly boring for my playstlye. Just play whatever suits you but also pick a class that you think youll do well as.
Other things you might want to consider is are any of your friends playing that youll be grouping with, since you might want to pick classes that way, and you might not want to all be hunters. In fact one of the best groups I ever saw on my server was 1 warrior with 4 priests, and the warrior basically went around just hitting everyone since with 4 priests backing him it was nearly impossible to kill him.
Thtas because they are overpowerd.
You also forgot we can walk on water.
Right...first hunters...with the honor system they rock in large scale PvP. Other than that, they are the most unfinished class ever. I played a hunter (just cancelled subscription), they have been nerfed severely since launch, have the most pathetic talent tree, and lack utility in instas. If you will ONLY be doing large scale PvP, get hunter. If not, which most likely you will, and if you ever plan to play at lvl60, which most likely you will, stay away from them for about 6 months and then try to get a general idea by visiting the boards to see if they got fixed.
Shamans...they rock right now, but if blizzard will ever listen to their customers or get to balancing the thing, then don't pick them. They will be nerfed at a point because their diversity is way too good on all sides.
Mages rock, if you want a very powerfull character that doesn't have a big chance on getting nerfed(this should be a major concern when choosing class right now), then get one. Overall they are very good in PvP and always wanted in groups because of their ability to kill of things in a second. Biggest downside is the downtime they face because of mana, although this can be dealt with fairly easily.
rogues are very powerfull aswell, although not very wanted in groups and overall hated. But they're a blast in PvP.
Warrior can get a bit boring, and PvP they loose against certain classes and own others.
I choose druids, after the loving 2 patches ago, they're now a fulfledged class, very wanted in groups and in PvP. Alliance side they are THE class you want for capture the flag aswell as Battlegrounds in whole. If I were to pick a class right now, I'd go for druid...

Hunters were never nerfed, there was a bug making them do tons of extra damage to certain npcs and this was taken away. And what is unfinished about them?
Pick a mage...lol. Mages have been in a downhill spiral since launch. In PvP they're basically wearing a billboard that says, kill me, my hp sucks and I have the lowest armor in the game. Unless your a gnome you wont want to ever stay within 40 yards of a hostile group for more then 5 sec. Mages are probably around 1st-4th in best PvP potential, but as weapon dmg rapidly rises as spell dmg rarely is upped, theyll soon be surpassed by the other three being hunts, shamans, and rogues. And if Blizzard doesnt stop fearing an inceased spell dmg, I think warriors are going to be one of the best very soon.
Rogues are only good if they are a talented player, and the PvP action is set up so that it is favorable to them, and it rarely is.
Warriors started off as bad as paladins were in PvP, but with the rate at which weapons are increasing, they're becoming more and more powerful with each patch. 5000hp, Plate armor and a high dmg weapon is a deadly PvP combo.
Yes...you played hunter for hours since beta...
Hunters were the last class to be implemented in beta, they got their talent tree about a month before launch. However, at the time this was no problem, since we were pretty overpowered, along shaman lines. They got even better, we got loads of nerfs...check the WoW boards and try to skim along the trolling for the constructive posts. No matter how immature the community can be, I have never seen that many construcitve posts ever, loads of people love the class enough to put that much effort in it it seems.
Not nerfed...lol...we got our dps cut by a fourth...twice if you are only looking at plate users. Don't come saying we haven't been seriously disadvantaged lately because that's just utter *****
Anyway, I agree mages die quickly, but the other side dies even quicker if you play it smart. You have to have first strike, that's all.
I'm only talking about players who know their class...
warriors indeed lacked more in earlier days. But the fact they're very melee styled makes them lacking against...mages for example Off course, pala's are even worse off without charge...
!,,! >.< !,,! MetaL MusiC !,,! >.< !,,!
Can hunters do over 2k damage from one attack and wear mail armor...yes they can. And the hunter fix was a bug, just like teh paladin bug on seal of command. The fix wasnt a nerf since either class was not supposed to be that good, its just that there was something wrong with the programming.
And I was talking about group PvP since 1v1 rarely happens outside of duels anymore. Since with the exception of some good shamans and druids, no class ever gave me a real pvp fight. If you see a line consisting of paladins druids and priests which are all self healers, warlocks and warriors who usually have insane hp and mages which the lowest hp and armor, who are you going to attack. Yes mages hit hard, but if you get careless and close within 30 yds, the 2 priest DoT spells will practically kill you, and if you get hit by anything else besides that then your as good as dead. But most mages like me are just mad about this thing since now that people are getting smarter, its becoming harder and harder for us to survive in line fighting and mage bombing became impossible to pull off after the first week it was invented. The fact that Blizzard is re-implementing invisibility kind of shows how the whole mage pvp thing is going.
We can do 2k dmg with a talent tree spell that takes 6 sec to fire off + weapon delay and mortal shot skills aswell, to get the 2k dmg you need a 2.7 sec weapon and a crit so in practice it means we need the first shot, be in 41 yard range the whole 8.7sec, because unlike with mages, our shots stop as soon as you're out of range and have a 1 in 10 chance to get 2k. Otherwise it's 600dmg whooping dmg.
Mail means zip, we're dead as soon as we're in melee, mage users negate defense caused by mail so in practice, it's only usefull for that few seconds a pala dmg uses, after the seal of command fix, nobody cares...
Hunters were considered a pretty balanced class before the nerf, it was considered that hunter dmg was balanced around the quiver bug and the bug was known. We accepted it after a while with pet customization(s?) but then ranged dmg got a nerf, which means hunters, it was now dependant on defense instead of agi before I think...anyway, this was desastrous to our dmg against the plate/mail users and in limited extend to cloth users. I saw a movie were a defense equipped warrior did nothing and a hunter shot with everything he got, it took a min a half...that is how we stand at lvl60 in PvP.
Mages come second target after healers...priests mostly since they shield the mage, allowing him to do even longer burst dmg. But I agree, it's one of the downsides of being a cloth user, except you know that on forehand.
On the subject, go druid dude...they rock
i'm a 60 druid with full cenarion set.
i can take out the best Warrior and the best Rogue. But when it comes to a Mage or Warlock they are little trouble. for Pally they rape me. My point is each class is weak against another specific class. And again skill is really a big issue in the game.
without skill you cannot do anything even if you have the best class and the best items.

well, it's hard to say really. they are just going to keep nerfing one class at a time until they are all so borked all classes will be useless.

Well, if its hard to say which class is best, that measn they are balanced well and require no nerfing.
