Soe closed Europe Farstar and Chilastra for FCTS

Hi all,

If you haven't noticed.. soe made a (probably) pretty bad decision. After all servers went online again after the database breach we got free play time (45 days) which a lot of people used or are using to get back in the game, some staying.. others leaving again probably, but during this free time and in the middle of a free character transfer service, after they closed starsider as a destination server, they now closed both chilastra and europe-farstar.

Leaving only Flurry as well populated server left. Sure, thats still one server to go to but.. what if your guild / friends have moved to another server? Or you moved a toon from one of these servers to some other server to do a cross server trade and you can't get back? Great thinking SOE because there was no way you could know........

Pay some attention to:

However, due to the overwhelming popularity of the service, and of a few specific servers, we can no longer allow free transfers to Chilastra or FarStar, effective immediately. Quite simply, the servers are full.

So quickly... that you didn't have time to get where you wanted to go / get back to. Way to build up customer relations lol.

Friendly notice: This doesn't apply to me, all my toons are on flurry and I don't have cross server trades going on but I can imagine how it would look to people who wanted to transfer to a populated server or were away from the home server.

No, it wasn't a bad decision. It was a good one. They stopped the free character transfers to Farstar and Chilastra because a lot  of people transferred there and they did not want issues like they do on Starsider with lag and it becoming over populated. The truth of the matter is how long did people have to transfer to either of these servers before Soe stopped the transfers there? The real answer is weeks. You had plenty of time to transfer there or go where your guild/friends were going. If you were among the ones that got trapped because you were transferring items between accounts/toons then you weren't really using the FCTS for its original purpose. Nice try OP.

Part 1: Yes, I agree that they had to shut it down for fcts for reasons that it would become to heavily populated.

Part 2: I guess you didn't read my statement it didn't apply to me. Or do you think I am a liar?

From my pov, people should have had notice at least a few days in advance that they were going to shut down the servers for fcts or for example leave it open for paid cts.

This is the same problem SWG had last time they left population balance up to the players.

No, I don't think you are a liar and yes I understood the situation didn't apply to you. From your pov you are saying SOE should have game some notice in advance they were closing transfers to those servers. The reality is how long did people have to transfer to those servers? No notice is even needed for that because if people had weeks to transfer there and they haven't done so by now it's their fault for waiting to the last minute. I don't understand why a lot of people seem to think SOE has to hold their hand and give notice when they could have decided to move their own characters at anytime.

Not a SOE fanboy here but if SOE decided to close some servers and try to balance the population themselves you still would have lots of upset players because they were now "forced" to transfer and some of them would lose their cities and such. Either way there is not one solution that would  make everyone happy.

Server mergers have avoided this exact problem in many other games.  It also has the added benefit of keeping the entire server community together instead of splitting them up randomly over several servers.

Sure people might get upset at a server merger, but at least they are not left stranded on servers that are even more empty and denied access to servers their friends moved to.

The community is the strongest aspect of SWG and any consolidation plans should have centered around keeping that aspect as intact as possible.

Starsider is a little too crowded for my taste. I transferred my main from ss to flurry and its been perfect pop wise.

I agree but there are a lot of considerations to be made when talking about server merges. Some people don't like playing on crowded servers and others enjoy the empty slower servers. The last server merge/closures ruffled a lot of feathers.

I really feel SOE should just throw the towel in and due the merges to have a healthy balanced population on all servers myself but on the other hand I really wish the community would rally together, communicate and balance the populatiuon with the free CTS now. The problem is the official forums have turned into giant flame wars and the doom and gloom talk of SWG when TOR comes out.

Well, makes not much more sense to do much now. They are shutting it down...
