Same, I'll keep my main account open.  SWG - the most enjoyable, upsetting, ticked off at developers time I've ever had in a MMO, so far.

yes swg from 2003 till 2005 was a great and wonderful experience.

the cu was a boring game.

the nge was something that no one wanted, asked for, and in the end the players spoke.

it's safe to say that the mmofringe have won this battle and we will win the war.

Mastering architect as my unlock pre-cu jedi , by far the greatest experiance and enjoyment ive ever had playing the game.

Played from launch to NGE. Im sad that im now reminded once again the nge was the biggest fail of all time but happy that it will

    be forever gone.

I remember your threads on the official forum fisher...good stuff. SWG was my first MMO, and I will miss it greatly.

I played this game more in a year than I have played any other game since then.  I will join back up that final day just to watch it shut down.

      So Doom was?

SWG was my first game. played religiously from EU launch right up to about 2 months after the NGE.

Have popped back a few times since but it was never the same.

It will be missed although not the same way had this happened before the NGE more the same way that I have some good memories of playing The Matrix Online. To me SWG died many years ago.

back in the day when doom came out, my family couldnt afford a pc that could run it haha. had to get a job t buy own consoles and such so yeh golden was my favourite game i ever played.

Yep, SWG was the best game I ever played.  I had three accounts!  something I would never do with the trash games out there now.

I was not a crafter but I so appreciated the crafting system and gave it a spin...but not much more than that.  I was a melee stacker and that is what I wanted to do and how I wanted to play.  I didn't want to be a jedi.  But, I did love how the crafting system was set up.  I loved that I could rent my harvestor space and how I could harvest myself for coin.  I loved how the crafting system was so  indepth that only a few would master it and those who did were rich!!  Those few crafters, cause many ppl don't like crafting, drove the player based economy.

It was great talking to a master crafter about a weapon and finding you needed a Krayt drop to make it.....then off I went to do just that.  Crafting  not only kept the economy in check but drove game play, it created its own content.

I firmly believe you can not have a sand box game without an extremely robust and challenging crafting system.  It needs to be difficult enough to keep everyone from just making their own gear but easy enough so everyone can take some advantage of it.  I think SWG did exactly that.

Hell, what are all the major conflicts on our planet for?  Usually resources.....if that is good enough to keep our nations busy, why can't it work in an MMO?

I relish the day an MMO will have a system such as SWG....nothing has kept me as enthralled as SWG, Pre-NGE.  I played SWG more than any other game....even WOW which really offers nothing.

I bid thee farewell old friend.....may the force be with you because LA won't.

I should feel a lot worse than I actually do.

But yes, I agree with everyone here that SWG was the greatest game I've ever played.  It gave me a vision of what could be, and I relished in it.

By the way, does anyone have a link to that old video that had the developer chat with Raph Koster and Rich Vogel before the game launched?

The Thread Title nails it (from 2003 to 2005).

Maybe i will come back right to the farewell countdown...

PS: I never got into this Jedi threadmill - allways stayed away from becoming a force freak^^

I loved SWG so much that I even tried to give the NGE a shot but it was not to be. Pre NGE SWG was to me the greatest game ever also.

  • elockeelocke Member UncommonPosts: 4,335

Not the Greatest game I've ever played.  Not by a long shot.  However, it was my First MMORPG experience and from launch up to the first Jedi unlock it was phenomenal.  The jedi unlock mechanics however showed me the dev team had no idea how to put content into a sandbox and it all went downhill from there.  I moved on to FFXI after that, and for me THAT was a better MMORPG.

Not to be too negative though, because it was my first MMORPG and got me hooked, I will always remember the early days of SWG with fondness and will miss the old tiger when it's gone.  {mod edit}  R.I.P SWG.

SWG had the greatest potential of any game I had ever played but it fell short on actually living up to such potential.

The death of this game started with the Jedi grind garbage and hit full force with the NGE. The greatest contribution this game has made to the genre is what not to do to your MMO.

Well well Fishermagi -- we meet again... lol...

Looks like KARMA wins this round wouldn't ya say?    I am glad to see the Smed once again admit that the NGE was a failure and a mistake....  I am suprised he didnt flat out say-- thank you customers for paying for a mistake.. we love you.       At least in the end you can say... you got a Jedi right??

    lol.....

Never played this game, but i like to see it still has a fanbase.

Hopefully it wont end this soon......

  • FishermageFishermage Member Posts: 7,562

Yeah this is the clearest expression of Karma one could see. Nothing has happened that could not have been avoided, had some people made different choices.

Now all we can do is witness the end of an era, and remember what might have been.
