Reasons to not join/to leave EVE Online

This is just some information for those who may be a little out of touch with the game Eve Online or may consider joining it as a new player:

Eve Online was considered great by many players because of its sandbox environment and uniquess of gameplay it provided. A couple of days ago an internal CCP newsletter headlined "Greed is Good" got leaked. Since then, CCP is in full damage control mode and failing. A substantial amount of players are in the process of unsubscribing.

Essentially two things stood out from this newsletter that made people rage. First of all CCP wants to transform the sandbox game into a P2W (Pay to Win) game, by providing better items and "convenience" for RL cash ONTOP of the regular subscription fee. Prices right now for vanity items such as a "monocle" are 60-80$ RL cash.

In addition to this, the internal newsletter clarifies the strategic view of CCP concerning the game Eve Online. Essentially it is just viewed as a cash cow ("Golden Goose") to fund other, newer games. Apparently CCP just wants to milk the player bases cash to fund other ventures, without actually using those funds to improve Eve Online in any fundamental way. Any "improvement" like Incarna is just seen as a testbed for their other games. This also is in line with their "carbonification" (generalization) of game code.

Furthermore an internal Email of the Ceo of CCP got leaked, that he wrote after the 8000 post threadstorm on the Eve-O forums and riots in game. That email, directed as a motivation speech to the CCP employees can be summarized as "fuck them, they won't unsubscribe anyways". The tone and attidude of that email ironically resembles what a german general might have said to his troops in stalingrad before they got wiped out: "stay the course, we will be fine...".

Just a few points to keep in mind or to research yourself before you consider investing time and emotion into this game...

The cash cow thing would only make sense is DUST would relly so heavily on the interaction with the EvE universe. Someone it seems to be a ffailing EvE would result in lost money in DUST.

CCP as a company relies 100% on money of EVE subs and Venture Capital (VC). They have _0_ other revenue so far. Whether Dust will be a success remains to be seen, and the other games are not even close to be released. Many players have the impression that CCP overstreched its capabilities and needs money NOW, hence their direction with Eve Online.

No offense but do we really need another thread on these issues? I think it's fair to assume most have made up their own mind at this point, the issue has been discussed, raged on, and I'm sure even cried over at this point.

EVE is a niche and no amounts of MT and other useless garbage will change that fact.

well, this game have become more and more boring over the years and CCP managed to make their games more and more like a second job except that you do the work and they get paid for it .

Pretty much all the ships have been nerfed over the years, pve was already very boring years ago but at least you could get decent money from it as a cash income.

Pvp is a joke, thats more of a gankfest than anything ressembling even remotely to pvp. The last good thing which came from CCP was the expansion with wormholes.

CCP seems to  forget that people play games to have fun, and while it might be enjoyable if youre new to the game, it certainly was a much better game 5 or 6 years ago than it is now

I tried EVE a few years back and found it refreshingly different from other games.    It has a lot of interesting features, but my style and this game just do not mesh.

I am a diehard soloer (no guilds, no corps, and rarely group).    But the big killer for me was the open pvp.   Absolutely can't stand it.   In the months I played I never lost a ship, but one day I came very close to doing so, barely escaping,   I parked my ship and quit that day.

If they ever release an optional PvE version of the game, let me know.    If I want open pvp, I'll play a shooter game.
