Is This Really Worth Coming Back?

alienbloomalienbloom Member Posts: 4

I played Aion about a year ago and loved the game at first but found it to get more and more boring as i got to a higher level, but it was really boring when i first started out  but as i got higher in the game it was getting more fun but then boring again. I dont quite remember, but i think most quests were kinda the same thing to do. I mean i would be willing to come back cause i want a good mmorpg to play, but not if its not worth it. I also have been playing a trial of the game Rift so far i like Rift  but i dont know if it worth to buy it, im not sure yet.

A lot of things have improved in Aion in the last year. They have made some major changes. There are solo instances. There are more quests. There are alternate ways to complete campaign quests if you have trouble finding a group. There is the mentoring system. Boss drops are much better. Mobs drop more kinah and give more exp. Quests give more exp. One character per server per side will be given extra help with lots of goodies from surveys. stuff ranging from scrolls and potions to armor and a gold weapon at 25. Kinda like having a friend help you get started by throwing some stuff your way each level. As for crafting they have made it easier to get item procs in that, if you fail to proc say a blue sword from a green recipe three times, then you can buy a blue recipe that will use those three green swords to simply make the blue. Also the expert quests were simplified. They are not gone but most of them are easier.

Basically the worst of the grinding edge of the game has been taken off. However, the game has not been fundamentally changed. You do still need to do a lot of quests or kill a lot of mobs to level up but it is not nearly as bad as it once was.  There are still some frustrating RNG things in the game but the newer stuff is getting away from that. An example is the new crucible instance. You get tokens for the bosses you kill and can use those tokens to get even Eternal(orange) weapons and armor. So while you might get lucky from a drop, even if you are not you will eventually get what you are after, as long as you keep at it.

So don't expect a 180 degree change. It is not a different game. If you hated Aion from the beginning then it probably still wont be your thing. But if you loved Aion but it eventually wore thin because of the magnitude of the grind and RNG then give it another go. You might be pleasantly surprised. I know I have been. I am having a great time now. It has just enough of the hardcore feel to make it more appealing than Rift or WoW, but not so much that it makes you want to /wrists. :)

    All die, so die well.

I think over 2 mil American subs would disagree.

I tried to download this to give the trial a spin.

But after about a half hour of watching it crawl by at 250kb/s on a 3mb/s connection I removed it.

Can't be worth the download like that.

Here's all I want to know - can I turn off the terrible and constant voiceovers that happen every time my goof character casts a spell or swings their sword?  Seemed like a decent game, but as long as I have to listen to that crap they couldn't pay me to play it.

Yeah there is a option in the sound tab that you can mute character voices.

If by "dreaming", you mean "pretty accurate", then yes, yes he is dreaming.  I have not seen a game this alive in a very, very long time.

europe servers got around 100 people online at peak hour and no one is doing instances/quests below lvl 50. Shouldnt reactivate.

i think you are talking about rift or some wow servers, spatalos its full of people from each side (asmos and elyos), and its always groups to do stuff from L15 up

omg the dumbest post i ever read on aion forums. there is an option to search for players/classes. indeed it doesnt show ppl who go invisble but u can still see that u r talkin crap. i just counted 744 ppl online on 11:40 pm on telemachus server (elyos side only). and imagine its weekend (yep most pl go out at weekend) and also not peek time. i will post the numbers on siege time tomorrow but i already proofed that u are talkin crap and spreadin lies.

the number of found players are written in the chat window:

Edit: btw u are so smart to post screenshots at dredgion time (for those who dont know what dredgion is: this instance is only accessible on 3 specific times a day and its the best way to gain abyss points for pvp gear). at this time almost everyone is already in a grp for this instance or lookin for grp.

Edit2: one more thing..what do u think why they implemented the mentor system? join a legion and ask even the high lvls to help u with the quests. with the mentor system u will be able to get all the exp points and finishin the quests in no time.
