LucasArts passed along the following news item, as well as a big group of pretty new pictures from Star Wars Galaxies.
With Star Wars Galaxies: The Total Experience selling out at stores all over the country and the second annual Star Wars Galaxies Fan Fest showing that fans fervor for the game shows no signs of slowing down, the teams at LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment continue to enhance their immersive online glimpse into their favorite galaxy far, far away. This Tuesdays update features two particularly exciting additions.
Three new elite creatures have been added for high-level players, each of which drops a signature trophy allowing victorious players to walk away with proof of their heroic accomplishment. On Dathomir, battle the fearsome Bane Backed Spider. Or test your mettle against the new Murra Blanca or Painted Spat on Talus. Battling new creatures is the perfect way to pass time until one of the galaxys greatest holidays arrives Empire Day! Coinciding with what Earthlings (more specifically, Americans) a long time from now will know as the 4th of July, Empire Day celebrates the anniversary of Emperor Palpatines formation of the first Galactic Empire. In the days leading to the event, Imperial loyalists have the opportunity to embark upon a series of quests that could possibly culminate in their meeting a certain Dark Lord of the Sith. Meanwhile, the Rebellion has its own plans and its own scoundrel of a hero behind them. Whichever side players may serve, a great exclusive reward awaits their success. |
Thanks for the images and the news!

"Star Wars Galaxies: The Total Experience selling out at stores all over the country"
Heh, i find it very amusing that this would be forwarded to you all at mmorpg.com.
I have noticed that there is a sizeable overstock of the game at all stores in the city of Wilkes-Barre, PA.
If this game is running out in other stores, perhaps it would be an idea to get it from this area.
I'm pleased that the game is adding new content, but could you, the editor, please ask SOE to send you screen shots of this content? I believe SOE sent you the wrong screen shots. It would appear very much that these are pictures of the Carrion Spat on Talus, the Mutated Kahmurra on Talus, and the Gaping Spider Hunter on Dathomir only very slightly altered (E.G. Color, size, etc.)

Thank you for the update, MMORPG.com.
I can read for myself what's advertising and what's not, and this has both.
(By advertising I mean info for consumers or info for investors)
But I'm a big boy and I can take it.
Thanks again,
Mudde

My apologies, in future SWG news items I shall be sure to express hate for the CU, which incidently sees the "its a good thing" side winning the opinion poll on this site by a decent bit.
They sent official news of an in-game event and new monsters. Feel free to hate the game, but posting this is no different then posting the DAoC new server news.

If you have not noted, our "news section" only really carries official sources. Press releases, dev quotes, and updates. We do not typically jump on other news like "X Site has X Q&A".
The meat of our site is at the top of the page in the features section. When a company sends us official word of something like an in-game event, it goes at the bottom under news. This is the way the site has always operated.

Realize that some people have to find something to complain about no matter what.
I subscribe to news about SWG and I'm thankful for when you send me news about it. Then I come here and read whatever you've got.
This article caught my eye because it refers to Empire day which looks like it will be interesting.
If I'm not mistaken, each game listed on here has its own sections such as REVIEW, OVERVIEW, FEATURES, RESOURCES, SCREENS, NEWS, RATINGS, FORUMS, and LINKS.
Just because an article comes from LucasArts (NOT SOE) doesn't mean that it has no place here and that the good people running this site are unprofessional.
It also sounds like some of the people commenting on here are aspiring journalists. I sure hope they finish up their degree soon so we can read all their great undercover investigative reports, or whatever it is that they're fantasizing about.
Thank you for your hard work, mmorpg.com
...and no, I don't have any relationship to anyone with soe, lucasarts, mmorpg.com, microsoft, the federal government, or the UFOs (for all of you conspiracy nuts out there)...

Well, a few things really.
First, i would like to apologize to Dana. Nothing I said at least was meant to harm the editor in any way, shape or form.
BUT there is something that bothers me. Mudde, you talk about people finding something to complain about, and we cant forget "If I'm not mistaken, each game listed on here has its own sections such as REVIEW, OVERVIEW, FEATURES, RESOURCES, SCREENS, NEWS, RATINGS, FORUMS, and LINKS."
And this topic can be talked about as well. I would like to know how what i posted was off-topic?
I MIGHT BE WRONG, but last time i checked, every person is ultimatly entitled an opinion. AND the last time i checked, good and bad points were supposed to be posted on the topic at hand. In no word(s) did i mention the CU in my original post, I talked specifically about my thoughts on "Empire Day".
It erks me that you, Dana, the editor, would verbally attack the posters (myself included) on opinions.
"My apologies, in future SWG news items I shall be sure to express hate for the CU, which incidently sees the "its a good thing" side winning the opinion poll on this site by a decent bit.

NOONE even mentioned the CU until the post after your first Dana. It sickens me that you would make an attempt at destroying our opinions. This is absolute communism to only allow one side of the feedback. If I may, for a brief moment, speak about the CU, I personally am not upset with people loosing all their uber items and PvP abilities or seeing the game change in an attempt for the better. It made me unspeakably aggrivated when the company took feedback and ignored everything negative they read. You, Dana, attacking anything negative (which its very easy to see that my original post was) that you see is ludicrous, Mudde's most recent post included.
I realize that what the editor posts is usually what they are given to post. Everyone should realize that. I also feel that noone has the right to accuse that the editor to be involved in Payola or any other frauds. I DO agree that noone should question the editor. Unless of course the editor provokes those question in some form.
I would like to point at, being you made the accusation, that i am indeed no journalist, or attempting to get any degree in journalism. Simply voicing my Opinion which i believe i am still entitled to. The US IS still a democratic-republic, correct? And I still posess the freedom of speech, correct?
(for the record, all my original post was saying was "SOE is in no shape to create content that cant even be considered new content".)
last, i would like to say that i as well would like to say "thank you mmorpg.com for your hard work" being this site has always been and should continue to bring us, the readers/posters up-to-date stories.. But now i am curious to know if the problems with SWG has turned the staff into communistic savages.

I think you need some school then yourself. This was a press release. Opinion should never be in a press release. It was posted here for the benefit of those that care to know about SWG. You really don't have a clue as to what your speaking about.

JollyollyJoe,
My response was directed at the post by wotho, and not intended to be directed at you.

While you are indeed usually free to voice your opinion here at MMORPG.com (we do have SOME restrictions of course, should said opinions fall into the hate-related or flaming or harassment categories and such like that) I would like to remind you that yes, the US is indeed still a democrasy, however that means absolutely nada in regards to your freedom of speech as it relates to our site. Your constitutional freedom of speech is ONLY the freedom from the GOVERNMENT regulating what you can and can't say. We have every legal right to regulate what is and isn't allowed to be said on these privately owned forums.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not taking sides here, in NO way saying Dana was right and you were wrong or vice-versa, I could really care less about the argument, I'm just clearing up a VERY OFTEN missunderstood bit about the "freedom of speech".
