So, I'm building a new desktop and with that comes new gaming possibilities. RIFT being one of the major ones. My brother plays right now as a Cleric and has recently hit level fifty and says the endgame is pretty fun, especially with the release of 1.3.
I'd be starting after I get the rest of my computer pieces, and was wondering if it's a good time to start. I'm pretty excited and I'll be doing the trial first but I don't know if I can fairly judge a game within seven days. Especially endgame. I'm looking forward to hear your comments.

Rift is a soild, fun game. However the endgame is not all that great, gets old quite fast, but don't just take my word for it.
There's plenty of threads like these you can read through on this forum.. IMO right now is the best time to start playing Rift.. The population is excelent (especially with the free server transfers) there's plenty of new players still running around in starting zones and doing starting instances.. New content is being practically released every month..
Now, I myself enjoyed lvling to 50.. In Rift there is never a dull moment, and if there is you can only blame you're self.. So many players just grind quest chain after quest chain and by the time they get to 50 they are bored.. There's so much you can do while leveling, such as war fronts (first one is lame but the 3 after are sweet), invasions (huge mobs come out of Rifts that you have to compete to take out with the other faction and players), some very fun instances, puzzles (each zone has a unique puzzle that gives good loot), carins (chests that have good loot and are usually placed up in a really high and hard to get place), artifacts (set peices that you find scattered around the world that reward you with a unique currency to spend on mounts, comsmetics, ect), crafting (basic wow-ish crafting), and more.. SO PLEEEEEASE don't rush to 50, enjoy all there is to enjoy so by the time you hit 50 you're not bored with the game.
As for the end game, it's very WoW-esque.. You have you're choice of running Rift's dungeons on expert mode (t1 then t2) which i find very fun with a group of players from you're guild or some friends.. I myself have only been doin T1's and they are pretty challangeing.. After you've done T1's + T2's enough to get up then you can participate in raids; which IMO is Rifts bread and butter.. They have several raids already, all of them look amazingly fun.. You and 20 of you're friends get to take on some very challanging pve content for some very sweet gear.. Then ofcourse you can always pvp on war fronts and raise up you're pvp tier.. The recent update has added some pretty sweet pvp gear.. It's defiantly on par with the pve gear and better if you plan on just pvping.. I plan on getting my PvE gear first, then working on my PvP gear (atm only tier2 on pvp.)
So yeah, very fun game.. Best MMO i've played since AION/EvE.

I would recommend playing rift over any mmorpg right now because it is very well polished and the leveling is fun and it is not so much a grind because you have Quests,PvP, and Rifts to do and city invision's to stop so there is a lot of content to do and endgame is getting bigger because they are updating the game constanly

I agree with Aquazen, played it in Beta and for a while after release, but it does get old.
Yeah, now seems to be a good time to start, since all the major bugs are gone, with only a few minor ones still around. However there still is a chance that you may suffer from a bug that crashes the game. Best download & try the free trial first just to make sure you won't crash and that you'd actually enjoy it. Endgame is nothing but dailies, dungeon runs, raiding and instanced PvP full of OP builds. If you enjoy at least 2 of those then you'll enjoy Rift endgame.
BTW... What are the specs for the PC you're building?
Pick your server wisely, since subscribership population from a few months ago has already declined more-so on some servers. But aside from that, the journey to 50 was entertaining, though end-game is typical lobby-system, shoe-box maps of 10 v 10 third-person shooter pvp, or running the same dungeons repeatedly, all of which has absolutley no relevance on open-world game-play or dynamics.
I'd go for it if your first month is free, and then on a month-to-month basis. But the overall game, in general, is a glorified single-player RPG with an emphasis on NPC interaction with a similar mind-numbing shallow end-game.
For me, it was about how much repeated tedium you can't stand for some duration after you hit level 50, and with the journey to 50 being sparsely pve dynamic, it was entertaining enough to hold my attention for 2-months. Not a bad purchase for any Single-Player RPG, masqueraded as a Massively-Multiplayer ORPG, but not necessarily worth grinding the same predictable instanced NPC-Centric content over and over and over for $15/month.
This is important. For me, I needed to think about my timezone and which servers are most active when I play. This has made huge difference compared to another server I was on for a little while.
I've made it to level 35, so I can't say anything about endgame.
But like the above poster says, the game is entertaining for at least the first month. I don't find it to be nearly as much fun playing solo as I do when I group or play with a friend. This game seems (to me at least) a little less forgiving to the solo player than leveling in WoW.
There are a lot of little leveling guilds so find one that works with your personality and play style and you can have some fun learning different classes and roles. For example, I am in a little 10-man leveling guild of lowbies with my 20 rogue. I definitely didn't plan on tanking, but we need a tank, so I respecced and had a blast today.
I'm just hoping to have fun for a couple more weeks before I go on vacation. I will pick Rift up again after I get back in September. My guild will be way ahead of me by then, but I'm not worried about it. Just having fun along the way.
All the groups and guild events i do, i'm imagining them ?
Nope. I still do group events in my Single-Player, Lobby-System, RPG's today too, aside from having done them in Rift.
It really depends on how much my next paycheck is, but here's the run down of the guaranteed-buy.

Guess you don't play on a pvp server? Open pvp is ALWAYS a option.. And now that the new dailies force you out of safe zones it's been happening a lot more.. Shimmersand has been roamed around by guilds in groups since the start of this last event.. Last night we had a 20ish on 20ish and had a complete blast griefing one another.. There's even the new dailie that rewards you after 25kills in Stillmoor..
We still do invasions also, which are fun.. Especially when defiants come zerging out and try to steal the collosus kill away from us lol.. I guess you're either not a pvp server or you're guild is a bunch of PvE'ers/not active enough to form groups like these..
Like i said in my earlier post, if you get bored it's more then likley you're own fault (or you just don't like the game i know plenty don't) because there is so much to do if you try to form groups to do it.. But you really need an active guild or a good group of friends to do so..

Not really relevent to the topic but, I think I did enough work to get an i5 2500k and a 6850 instead of the 965 BE and 460 GTX. On topic: I mindlessly pushed 1 button on my brother's cleric today... I liked it. I can only imagine doing my own character and what class I want to play.
Pick it up.. its a great game.. I am currently playing it a 35 necro/lock main build... Havent enjoyed a game like this since Vanguard!... and yes I am one of those wierd people that liked Vanguard.
I would have to say that I pretty much agree. I enjoyed the game for several months, but now it is getting boring. Keep in mind that I am not a raid person much, so I know that contributes to this. I just do not have the time and I know that it cuts alot out of the endgame experience.
I prefer the endgame on PvP servers. Im not a big raider, ill do it if guild mates need me, but I run around to harass the other team, kill their PvE contacts, and get in decent (i.e. even level) fights.
