I've been playing this game for awhile now and because the combat isn't twitch based and nothing requires any skill, you can easily manage multiple accounts at the same time. I'm a one character person on all my mmorpgs because I like to dedicate my time progressing with one character, however my mates all have 5+ accounts in EVE. The weird thing is they just buy them all and it seems allowed by CCP, which is madness to me because that's just paying your way to the top.
They just use all these accounts to make so much money and it defeats the point of the skill attributes. If you can specialise in everything with multiple accounts, then why restrict it at all? Just means that people with the most money win as they can do everything. Where as in other games where it's more active and hard to control more than one character you never really see an advanage. Yeah they can grind in groups on their own and get XP with themselves, but it doesn't have any bennefits for them like it does in EVE.
All I see anyone do in low sec PVP now is get all their alts in, you wont ever see solo PVP even if you're fighting one person because they have so many characters. I think fair enough if there are multiple people, but it just seems like pay to win to me. My friends all sell Plex too, which again is just like buying gold or whatever off any of the websites that sell them. So if they lose a ship they don't care because they can feed money into the game and one of my friends has spent over 2000 on EVE alone for ISK... just sad but I wonder how many people are doing it lol.
This is what puts me off EVE, sure everyone is moaning about buying all these items from a cash store but EVE has been like this for ages.

Alts are not the problem...and stop calling me surely... :P
ATM I am taking a break from Eve, but I do believe that having multiple toons enhances Eve. That way you can have your money maker/ miner/industrialist. And your bad ass man'o'war for fighting either pvp or high level rat missions.
I do this in just about every MMO that I play, it makes things so much easier so you don't have to try to make your main toon a "jack of all trades, master of none"

Dont see a problem with several alt, you have to counter it with real friends in a corporation. Or you could do it yourself since its not limited.
Besides, beeing in a corporation usually gives a huge advantage vs. staying solo, still....... if people preferes to be solo I wouldnt disallow corporations because of it........
"which is madness to me because that's just paying your way to the top"
Thats the problem right there. That people actually care about pointless stuff like this. If you become the best player in EvE or any GAME then what. Is your life going to better. If you're the worst player in EvE is your life crappy? Games should be played for fun, but they aren't. They're just used by people who want to get a sense of progression and accomplishment. But its not real and it doesn't matter matter. If people are better than you it doesn't matter. If they get to the top faster than you because they throw money at it that just means they wanted fake stuff more than you.
Think about this for a moment. Do you have playing EvE? Be honest with yourself, no me. Or do you feel like you're doing a chour, dreading each quest/task and only looking forward to the reward? If you're only looking forward to the reward of doing a mundane task its time to wake up.
The whole thing is madness.
The only madness around here is listening to a bunch of people that don't play the game, tell a bunch of people who do, what's wrong with it.
So the people who 40-box WoW aren't able to do that even though they are because its twitch based? Multiple accounts are prevelant in every MMO, its the truth get over it. If you disbelieve me you can find several videos of it up youtube.
This first statement completely contradicts itself. You play Eve because it takes no skill and you can multi-box because you are single account player?
What?
Been playing Eve for a quite a while and while many people have multiple accounts, I myself have two, you will be hard pressed to find a group of players all with five accounts. And really man, how the hell is your friend spending $2000 on plex? Do you have any idea how much isk that is in game?
In Eve you can only train one character per account at a time. This is why people have multiple accounts. It's restricted so people will have multiple accounts. They make more money, make sense? Just in case you weren't aware, Eve isn't like every other MMO. It doesn't work the same way.
The only funny thing is they make a class-based game out ouf a sandbox, but other than that...
In DAoC Buffbots killed random groups, but in EVE there doesn´t seem to be random groups per game design. It is more like in these time-based browsergames.
There's no doubt that having multiple alts is an advantage, I own 4 accounts myself.
There's no less than about ...... 200K solo pilots that could wipe the floor with me in PVP because I really sort of suck at it.
And no way do I fly multiple ships in PVP, you might think the combat is that simple, but fact is few players can multibox in active combat, usually they'll have a 2nd ship tagging along that has limited functionality or is hiding in station like a Damnation (buffer) sort of how buff bots worked in DAOC years ago.
When I'm in my expensive shops (200K plus) I'm flying them solo ...and having more alts gives me more choices of ships to fly, but at any given moment I'm in only one, and there's always a counter for it if you have guessed right or flown smarter.

Welcome to the real world? The people with the most money can have the best stuff! Generally speaking the people who are willing to dump money into a virtual game are likely not very successful in the real world... So this gives them a chance to "be someone" in a fake world!
Let them enjoy being the king of the fake world... Get a good job, become successful in the real world!
This. Pure gold.
That's right, doing the 2+ account thing is P2Win.
I multiboxed once in wwiionline, I had a towing account, towed 88's around and pwned the allies. I payed 2 win.
Now this is a game that requires real skill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8m06l9E00Vs And not just skill, but forethought and analytical thinking.
