Exactly. I'm sure some people left EVE, AO, FFXI, DAoC, and several other games - and went back. It's all about finding what suits you. Heck, for most that returned EQ may just be a temporary solution again. I don't know.. somewhere along the lines EQ just lost it's addictive luster in my eyes. I think they'd be wise to find a *real* way to incorporate older zones again. None of this "We'll put an LDON in Everfrost, so maybe people will fight there again!" garbage. All I can say for sure is that I'll never return to EQ for anything more than a visit. I think this holds true for a lot of people, like me, who left because they just weren't having fun anymore - rather than those who left for another game.
I'm guessing most came back from EQ2 - It was the promise of a newer more improved eq - didn't even come close for me. EQ is FAR superior to EQ2 - this is coming from a jaded old time EQ'r (I now of course hate eq - played a ranger nuff said).
Played Wow - it was EQ the short attention span/fast foward version - it was entertaining and fun as was eq back in the day. But, I have to say quitting eq - I saw what the sun looked like again - it was weird at first running around in real life again...

This is the game that started it all. Innovative? Your damn skippy. Name what game you think is better so I can tell you how it owes its existence to EQ. Or better yet just #@$% off.
Well I for one play both EQ & EQ2. I've been in EverQuest since Velious (I know, not that long compared to some, but that's over 4 yrs now) and EverQuest II since beta.
While I do enjoy EQ2, I still love the encounters, the raids and the high level content in EverQuest. I have a guild in each game that have known me for at least a year + at this point. What keeps me from dropping one game or the other? Not a thing. I have friends in both. I group and raid in EQ, I solo and quest in EQ2. I've known people to leave EQ for -someotherMMOhere- and never return, and I've seen some hard care die hard -otherMMOgame- players drop that other game like a hot potato and come back to EQ and our online families there.
In the end... it's all about what makes YOU happy, as a player. I play EverQuest and EverQuestII regardless of what others say. I will continue until they bore me or I have no one else to log in and hang out with.

Im thinking about coming back to EQ myself. Here's the reason: Im sure Im not gonna start a new game until Vanguard is released, so I might as well pick up EQ and try to get some high lvl raiding done before Vanguard hit the shelves.
I bought EQ back in 98 but Ive had a couple of (long) breaks, and server switching (started on pvp-servers), so the best char I got is a 56 necro so there is still lots of stuff for me left to do.
Actually, quite a lot of changes in the last year. The servers have merged almost all the way across the board. Bad news if you have a character under level 10 and hasn't been logged in in the last 6 mos . Those all got deleted. Yes, actually deleted according to Sony.
If you want to check which server merged with which, it's on the April& May calendars at EQ OGaming as well as in the news posts on the front page.
There's been DoN expansion (Feb 05 I believe), and OoW expansion (Sept/Oct 04).. and a LOT of updates . I encourage anyone who's thinking about coming back to do so and see if you still enjoy the game. Or better yet... enjoy it more now

Wait a sec...I havent logged on with any of my chars since October last year...does this mean that all of my characters are deleted? That would totally suck! No point in going back to EQ then
edit: I dont find my latest server on the list. I played on Morden Rasp...anyone know the story of Morden Rasp server?

morden rasp was merged into another server.. on the server list you should see (morden rasp) after the new server name. They aren't to quick to delete old characters so i wouldnt worry about that.
Only chars under level 10 that have not been logged in in the last 6 mos. Per Sony:
Unutilized Character Purge Immediately preceding the merger, all characters below level 10 that have not been logged in for over six months will be deleted from each of the merging servers and will not be available after the server merge. If you have a character on any of the servers being merged that is below level 10 and has not been logged in for more than six months, you will need to log that character in prior to the scheduled merge date for the relevant server.
So, no worries if your chars are over 10 for that .

Played WoW for less than a month when I realized... "This game is not for me..."
Bought EQ Platinum, Omens of War, and Dragons of Norrath, and returned to Everquest after 4 years of leave.
I started out fresh, and the game is wonderful. Great fixes, still could use improvement (but what game doesn't need improvement?), so many things to do.

Started it all? Give me a break. If any game deserves credit for that, its Ultima Online.
Everquest is full of timesinks, bugs and a million empty zones. You can't possibly say that other games "owe their existance" to a game that borrowed largely from previous games as well.
Originally posted by aeric67 I'd like to see some backup to the claim that many people are leaving WoW for EQ1. If you just "noticed" an increase in population, that is nice. But if we start to discuss this like it's fact, maybe we should see some proof first.
Its a phenomenon called "denial". EQ was the top dog for years - many of the die hard players can't fathom that SoE/EQLive is now a "previous generation" game that is joining UO in being a fading MMORPG.
I was the guildmaster of a raiding guild on Tarew Marr (now Drinal). Yeah, some people retired and eventually decided to come back to playing EQ but the majority of players are gone for good. It's kinda sad to see the people still there actually expecting all of these retired players are going to suddenly find EQ fun again and return to the game.
No thanks. Been there, done that. Nothing SoE could do would ever make that game fun again for me anyhow.

Well technically UO didnt start it all either LOL.. UO and EQ both deserve credit for being big steps ahead for their time. All fantasy games borrow from J.R.R. Tolkien and Gary Gygax so they owe their existance to those 2 guys. Theres no need to flame people on this thread. I started this thread because many people were coming back from WoW that i knew and i saw this happening on a few of my alt servers as well. I don't have to prove to you that i know these people were coming back. I know them and i know why they came back. I also know that people are getting tired of WoW and moving to other games. Not all people that give up WoW are going back to EQ. Some are trying out The Saga of Ryzom which deserves credit for being that next step in progression for the genre after EQ. If WoW had half the creative vision of SoR it really would have been something special. If SoR can put out content as fast as EQ then watch out!
Personally i'm on a break from EQ because i have a lvl 70 wizard with every aa and flagged for everything.. I started logging in and there was absolutely nothing that could be done in the game that i hadnt done. Raiding the same content 4 nights a week got old. I'm sure i'll be back after the next expansion though.
New expansion coming soon Cope Plus I read some article how they are revamping all the graphics of EQ, it showed pictures of new rats and old rats hehe If they redid the graphics on EQ I would come back No game will ever touch Everquest. It was the first 3d massive online world.
Screenshots of the new expansion I must say look GREAT
I just returned to EQ after leaving WoW and I am enjoying myself immensely. With the server mergers, I never have a problem getting a group, and there is SO much more to do! WoW bored me to death, I'm glad to be back home.

WoW got to damn easy and eq sucked bad so i came back home to eq after about 2 years and i think i may stay this time.
