Thinking of getting this game maybe.

Right now, I am playing Guild Wars, and I love it.

But I wouldn't say it's got the depth I am looking for in an online game. I used to play Ultima Online for about 4 years and freakin loved that game, I could get so immersed just wandering the land with me chums. I have also played EQ, which i played for a couple of months and then realised I hated it. It had no character to it, and it just felt empty.

So, I am looking for something which has the depth of UO, but also the fun of Guild Wars. I was interested in WoW before it was released, but in the end I never got around to buying it.

Also, what is the roleplaying like in this game? I was a big role-player on the UO Europa server, being 3rd in command of a big guild.

So, yeah. What do you think? I don't want any posts of people saying 'this game sux' or 'guild wars sux man why you play dat?' because I'm sick of people chattin crap and offering no constructive criticism.

If you have negative criticism sure, just don't waste my time with noobish crap.

Another major question, aside from whether the game is actually any good, is does the game run well? I have a P4 2.6GHz, 256mb RAM and a 128mb graphics card. 2mb/sec broadband

will the game run well, will it lag?

Guild Wars runs perfectly, like no other online game I've played. No slowdown due to my comp, and no lag whatsoever. If WoW performs poorly on either of these, I will be very disappointed as I think Guild Wars graphics are at least just as good, if not better.

Thanks. And also, a big F*** OFF in advance, for anyone who turns this thread into a WoW vs GW thread.

If you follow the quest lines, you'll find a lot of depth and story. A number of professions have you going on quests to learn certain abilities and those certainly add to the immersive quality of the game. The best example so far I've found are the druid beast form quests.

WoW is definately geared toward the casual gamer. Rested xp is a good example of that.

Your system should run fine, but you may want to consider upgrading to at least 512 Mb RAM.

If you're unsure, see if one of your friends plays and borrow some time on his computer.

I play both WoW and GW, and I find WoW more like MMORPG while GW more like single player RPG. GW reminds me a lot of Morrowind. If you like more content, storyline and more PvE then WoW is for you. If you like constant PvP then GW is for you. WoW does have PvP but its not the same as GW. GW is more like planetside, you get into action fast and non stop. In WoW PvP tends to be more episodical, sometimes u would spend several hours fighting at an enemy town, and sometimes you spend hours stalking solo prey in a forest.
You should definitely try out WoW, its great gameplay, rich storyline and practicaly no grind will make you want to play more and more.If you run GW without lag then WoW shouldnt have problems either. Just becarefull installing UIs (User Interface enhancements), some of them may slow down your wow, or even cause critical errors (my advice, STAY AWAY FROM COSMOS!!!). CTMOD is perfect for a few general use UIs, plus you can find plenty of small single purpose UIs.
If you are gonna get WoW then my advice to try as many chars at lower level as you can to see what playstyle you like more. Also, if you dont mind getting ganked and you like the thrill if playing in a zone where any enemy can attack you at any moment, regardless if you are ready or not then PvP server is for you. However, in my personal opinion, that can ruin the game for you as it almost did for me. I had to abandon 4 30+ chars and 1 47 char on PvP server because i got sick of gankers and griefers.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

I dont care what game your playing but that ram needs to be upgraded. Buy yourself a 512mb stick off ebay and you will notice a huge difference.

What server should i play on?

I enjoy PvP, but I hate griefers just coming up to me and killing me and saying shit like 'j0o n00bzz' or whatever it is those reprobates say.

    I also enjoy role-playing.

And also, I live in the UK, so I would want to be on a UK, or EU server.

There are so many servers, and I don't want to spend ages on a character only to find that the server is either too laggy, too empty, full of scumbags, etc etc

The good about the game is you cannot interract much with the opponent by chatting with. Coz you cannot understand what he's saying and neither he understand what you are saying. If you go Human you will be talking common language while the other guys who killed you is an orc per example. he will be talking orcish. So communication will be little poor. But the messed up thing is they can emote and the worst emote i hate while PvPing is /spit that really annoying and disgusting. I hate when they do it. I wish wow will take it out of the game.

Now for playing WoW it's really amazing. my opinion is try it you will love it. Try getting in a medium server. not low and not high population. Low population will be hard to find groups for high instances. And High population you will spend like 2 hours to get in the server.

I'm on a medium server and i love it.

If you dont like being ganked by high level players then join a PvE server. many people say its boring and its a "carebear" environment but I say no. Why is ita carebear? is it easier to level or kill onyxia? no. its easier in a sense that you dont have to be afraid to get ganked by a player who is way beyond your level range. I mean, is that realy fun when a level 60 rogue kills u in one strike when u r just a level 30? I dont know why on earth Bliz didnt work honor system up. They should of concentrated on that instead of working on battlegrounds.

Definately go with a PvE server. I have an alt on Draenor and have no problems finding PvP.

Go for a Medium Population server. Enough peeps to get a group together and not too many people to cause multi hour Queues. I am on BlackHand ( A high Population server with lag to back it up) and we have such long Queues it is disgusting, also on a side note we also have very very long GM response time to technical issues.  An example is that a guildie of mine had an over 72 hour response time from GM support to get his character released so he could play. The game kept telling him he was already logged in. This particular bug has been in the game since beta and no fix.

You have a serious problem. PPL have the right to make an opinion. I don't like it i have the right to state it. But you, you don't have the right to flame me becoz i hate that emote. THere is no Ego trip. You just don't accept ppl opinion.

You need to stop flaming ppl becoz they don't aggree with you.

Ultima Online has more depth than WoW. WoW is a simple game.

I was a roleplayer on Europa. Still looking for a fantasy game that has a community/politics/roleplay environment as good as UO.

Thankfully I have Eve online to keep me occupied for now.

I too recommend a medium population server. Enough peeps to get in groups and raids with less lag and Queue time. WOW owes me more than 3 days of my life due to Queues and that is not an exaggeration. At least now I don’t have a Queue of 395+ just to log on the game like in November, December and January. WOW did fix that or enough peeps on the server canceled their accounts.  I have not had a Queue to log in since February. The queues now are for new parts such as BG. I’m on a high population server and wish it was medium.
