Help me with Elder Scrolls

CastillleCastillle Member UncommonPosts: 2,679

So! Ive never played these games for the single fact that its FPS+medieval weaponry.

I absolutely hate FPS with swords.  So! With that said...

Is there a way for me to play Oblivion in 3rd person mode?  Maybe with over the shoulder camera instead of the regular camera style where youre centered?

I mean..The game looks okay but...The whole first person-ness of it is kind of...reallllyy....It doesnt make sense to me at all >.<

Yes, you can play 3rd person, but the animations make it awkward to look at. But yes, there is a 3rd person mode, if you truly wind up trying to play like this, I feel that you will likely switch and go first person, and all the better. It is a good game.

Errr you can always zoom out with your middle mouse scroll???

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

I never found the third person view to be much use except for screen shots.  For me it made combat awkard.

You can play 3rd Person Oblivion with a camera mod such as this: Ultimate 3rd Person Camera

There's a few more floating around in TESNEXUS/PlanetElderScrolls too, including some for Morrowind. Watch out for incompatibilities if you plan to go heavy on modding, though. I can tell you that mod heavily conflicts with Deadly Reflex in ugly ways.

So if first-person doesn't make sense to you, what perspective do you live your life in?

It offers both just scroll your mouse wheel. 3rd person is awkward though, if you need to play that way I'd wait for TES V as they've reworked the 3rd person elements.

    I was talking gameplay wise.

BUT if you wanna play that way...

d000ddd~~ I do have glasses that take input from my over the shouldercamera so I pretty much see stuff in 3rd person over the shoulder perspective.  Its pretty epic d00d o.o  Our prinny tech is pretty advanced d00d!

I live my life with peripheral vision, which is impossible to mimic in a 1st person game.  This makes it much too limiting for some.  I enjoy fps games as long as melee isn't involved, i don't know why but I really hate melee in 1st person.

OP is missing the point a little with this game maybe.  These types of game succeed or fail on their level of immersion.  First perspective gives greatest level of immersion, so I recommend going with that for max fun :)

edit: re post above however i do play as magey :P

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

Id have to say that really depends on how well done it is o.o I never really found first person perspective games to be more immersive than others.  I tried playing in first person perspective in GTA san andreas and I found it to be a lot less immersive than third person o.o

I always play the game in 3rd person just switch to 1st for archery or some spells. I prefer 3rd person I have never really enjoyed any strictly first person game.
