So far I am not impressed with Funcoms history as online company, they have yet made good on any of their promises! All of their games are junk and I encourage all gamers to just stay away! Do any of you remember how they Lied to the player base???

Graphically, this looks really good.  I just hope they put more work into this than AoC.  I'm trying that game out again since it's free.  I do like it a bit more than my first time, but I still don't feel it's worth the sub.  The combat (IMO) feels pretty slow, almost clunky.  My spells/skills go through fine, but I feel as if I'm always waiting for my combos to register.  Also, while the world looks great, something about it is not drawing me in.

I'm not sure what EA has to do with this game, but if they have learned anything, I hope they don't rush any new MMOs they're involved in.

I had a great time in AoC, so I don't see why I should try to stay away from TSW especially since it's done by Tornquist (The Longest Journey, Dreamfall) and I love the whole different and original setting that comes with it.

I'm so very very glad that after 2 pages of post, there is at least one sane one.

I get that people can get excited about videos and stated features of a game.  But why is it that people develop total amnesia about publishers when it comes to their products?  This is Funcom people.  I don't want to sound like a 'hater', I don't mean any disrespect to your hopes and tastes that this game may cater to.

However, I've tried all their games, and even after a couple of years of AoC's release, the one that I had the most amount of hope for, I saw nothing but failure at every turn.  The game is a waste of space on one's HD and is still plagued by bugs and undelivered game play.  People thought they learned a lot from their growing pains with AO, but if anything, they learned only how to put out political spin.  After the debacle of Rise of the Godslayer, FC has proven to me after a long series of repeated failures,  they're not a publisher/developing house that deserves any time or money from me in the future.

People, seriously, the reputation of a game company is a much more reliable indicator of a title's worth than your anticipation and hopes for it will ever be.  FC and SOE have one thing in common, a reputation for failure and lying, and its one they earned the hard way, by repeatedly beating it into their consumer base.  Sure this game could be something...and judging by FC's past record, its a good two or more years after its released it will at least not totally suck and be a bug ridden pile of digital crap.  I know, we shouldn't prejudge and all that other liberally politically correct BS, but when does a bit of common sense of approaching something with the reservation the company that's selling you the product become warranted?

In short, there's a very wise saying:  Judge not a man by what he says he's going to do, but by what he actually does.  The deeds of FC should if anything, make you at the bare minimum, highly skeptical.

Even peace may be purchased at too high a price, and the only time you are completely safe is when you lie in the grave.

The world and monsters look really nice- great creepy vibe. Plus- Funcom & EA- what could go wrong?

I think they'll fix the animations. AoC had great animations

That has little to do with sane or common sense, far from.

Common sense and sane would be when somebody said 'be wary because of FC's past with AoC but openminded to see beyond it, be interested in what they've shown but also aware that it's still only a small part of what an MMORPG should offer'.

As for the rest, it's clearly biased and heavily colored anti-FC talk of people who were disappointed because of AoC and can't let go of it nor can they look beyond it, they're simply stuck in their thinking. At best it's just their subjective opinion, one that shows little objectivity in it besides.

As for FC games: I've played The Longest Journey and Dreamfall, they were great fun. Also I enjoyed AoC, even besides the annoying bugs and stability issues that showed up in the first months. In fact, I'd say it's one of the best MMO experiences I've enjoyed, for a big part because of the server(s) I was on but also because the gameplay fun AoC offered.

So yes, i judge based not solely on 1 game they made, but also on the other games they made, and based on the fun I had in AoC as well.

If people don't want to play any FC game anymore because of their disappointments in the past, well, good for them! It only makes their choice to look towards other MMO's even easier, they're able to move on towards games that they do like, to each their own.

As for the videos, just like the AoC videos, the TSW ones give a good impression of the atmosphere of the world ingame. It gave an impression of locations ingame, and from what I saw I got a good impression how it looks ingame. On top of that, it shows the setting and theme they're going for, which is not scifi nor medieval fantasy, but some modern day, Lovecraftian setting, mixing horror elements with dark, urban fantasy.

Dont forget that AoC was buggy becouse the game engine was new, and not tested as mutch as it should, Now TSW is going to run on same engine as AoC. Sow it will be less problems as the engine is fully tested.

And dont take haters word about AoC or TSW. Try AoC for free now, and check TSW reviews after the game is lanched.

Dude i was just about to say the same thing until i seen your post lol. Guys one thing you can't forget this is FUNCOM. That company has already screwed up with AoC and if you remember all the nice vids of AoC before it was released suckered people. Compare this game's vids to AoC and you will notice the same. Then again you can just pay it no mind and think games like ToR sucks compaired to this game or go off what you know of Bioware vs Funcom. Bioware in my eyes would win any day of the week but that is just me speaking

AoC top dog? where did you get your information from?

  • HordedogHordedog Member UncommonPosts: 46

People who post telling others not to buy a game when it launches, because they have a personal vendetta with the developer, make me laugh.

Do they really think anyone who likes what they see so far is going to say to themselves "well damn, I was all amped for TSW, but some random dude with a chip on his shoulder says I shouldn't waste my money, so I guess I won't play this."?

I personally think FC learned a lot from it's mistakes with AoC. I think they will apply that to how they handle TSW. I also think the fact that Gaute has nothing to do with TSW is a huge positive, and more so the fact that Ragnar is the one helming things is again a huge positive.

Am I saying TSW will definitely be a huge success? No, I'm not, because I don't presume to make speculative assertions based on what little evidence there currently is. But I do -hope- it is a huge success and I think it has a chance to be.  I thnk the game looks great and the premise/setting is fantastic and fresh.

But I won't judge this game until I've actually played it, either in beta or at launch. But that's just how we open minded peeps roll.

I'm also a little cautious about Funcom, but this game has risen in my conciousness to the point that I'm willing to give them another chance. I so want this to be a good game. Love the setting, lore and presentation. Very welcome change of pace from Fantasy.
