Ok, so I've been following the recent drama associated with EVE and as such took them up on 5 free days to log in and see what all the fuss is about.   Maybe because of this it made me take a second look at the game.  That second look (really probably the 5th or so look) coupled with a Cracked.com article about the 5 biggest dick moves in online gaming, reminded me of the sheer amount of freedom this game offers its players.  The cash shop drama pointed out how beloved this game is by those who play it.  So now, while many are leaving in droves I have decided to bite the bullet and subscribe full time to the game.  Problem is I'm still lost as a newborn, not knowing how to do much of anything.

I do know that I want to be a miner and work towards earning enough ISK to try and gain some plex as early as possible.  I don't know if that is achievable only through mining but since I don't know exactly what I am doing that is my plan for now.

So I guess the point of this thread is HELP!  I need some guidance, some pointers etc.  Maybe even a Corp. to join if anyone is willing to have me.

Anyway, hope to see some of you guys in game.

BTW, a lot of those leaving in droves will be coming back now that it turned out to be much ado about nothing. Welcome to EVE

Yeah you are. On a serious note, all games eventually age, eve just keeps getting surgeries done to try and keep itself a live. Don't get me wrong, there are still tons of people playing, and it's running fine, but nothing lives forever.

    Trust no one..

New corp wants to haul your stuff to another station for you? sounds nice, but don't let them haul anything without collateral.

Always double check trades, don't rush anything, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Don't haul anything through 00, they are waiting for you.

Got an oppportunity to rip someone off? Go for it, chances are, he would probably do the same to you.

    Good luck, and have fun.

I do not think so.  In fact I believe CCP announced recently that subscriptions are at an all time high.   :)

Mining in high sec means competing against other high sec miners and bots. The isk you initially make will be a trickle, part due to competition, part due to the sheer amount of time it takes to train for an effective mining ship, mining lasers, reprocessing and other skills, not to mention lowering associated fees at stations by building a positive rating with particular factions. Oh and then there are thieves and suicide gankers to which you are pretty much helpless against. But let's say you sink in a huge amount of your time and perseverance and build a wealthy mining empire, so what? Isk is no good unless you spend it, ships are meant to be blown up (because the economy is purely a military economy) and in a static universe where there is no meaningful ebb & flow, no societal growth well you'll eventually get bored. EVE will be nothing more than a second job where the real money goes to CCP and all you have is virtual stuff.
