This is enough. The flamewar ends here and now. Anyone else that continues to participate in it, will have their post's deleted too. We don't need fire added to the fuel. We'll deal with it. Keep on topic and quit making the fire even larger.

Man I only read the first and last pages of this topic and it looks like it got bad and fast and the topic was so good too. I'm just glad some of the... less desirably content was deleted and giving this topic a chance to get back onto...topic.

So yeah War Of The Worlds looks really good I know the original story fairly well. Hehe to bad Steven Speilberg(open for correction on spellling) won't be able to get the same effect as Orson Welles mass hysteria production. then again Steven probably wouldnt of liked to have to deal with all the lawsuits Welles dealt with none of which won against Welles except one where a guy pressed charges for the price of shoes he bought in order to get away from the aliens Welles found it hysterical and paid the man without letting the courts handle it.

Thats about it, maybe the robots and stuff but yeah.I don't think I gave alot away, mainly just the first 20 or so pages of the book this stuff is established.

I hope it doesn't just start in the first 2 minutes with stuff blowing up just to be a big special effects light show. Personally some of the most interesting parts of the novel and the 1950s movie was the first 20-30 minutes in which the ships first land yet no one knows what’s going on. Those beginning moments set up the feeling on confusion and shock that will (should) be throughout the rest of the movie. It is also interesting to see how everyone reacts to what begins to unfold before the war starts. Either way, I know I'll go and see it. I thought that the last movie Spielberg and Cruise worked together upon (Minority Report) was very, very good and can't wait to see how this one will turn out.

Hollywood is utterly bereft of imagination and originality.... the remake of The Longest Yard confirms this once and for all... the movie was pretty average to start with but being 20 years old they figure "hell we can sell it to all these stupid 18-25 year olds with no idea of movie history, just put Adam Sandler in it, hes believable as a pro footballer"

Sure he is... if your a MORON!!image

If you're tired of Hollywood's lack of original ideas, why not do something about it? Try your hand in script writing and maybe you'll catch a break.

I just finished reading the original novel by Wells. Very impressive for a book about Martians invading written in the late 1800's.

For the new movie with Cruise, the only thing I hope they change is that the aliens are from someplace different than Mars. With as much as we know about the planet now, it wouldn't be believable it they keep up with the Martian bit. I just hope they keep in touch with the original flow of the story, especially Wells' original message.

I have to say i'm slightly dissapointed with the Movies of 2005 so far.  I'm sure that War of the World will be a 'good' watch but its not one of the films that will be remembered.

My favourite film of the year so far is Sin City, now that is a well made film but Hollywood seem to be to fixated on the whole Action thing at the moment.  When they move on from this and start making real movies and not just fodder for the masses then we'll get movies that in the future we can call classics.

    But thats just me. image
