    lmao

SOE continues to prove what an ignorant gimmicky company they are. No wonder the only people who play their games avidly are the equivalent to "facebook parents"

I feel no compulsion to play eq2 in 3d.  I did load up GTA4, Saints Row 2 and Red Dead Redemption though and play those with the 2d to 3d conversion.  It looked pretty good.  I would definitely play with the 2d to 3d than without it, as you can feel the openess of the environments and it just makes the games feel more alive.

It was fun popping in some Star Trek movies to watch as well.  The 2d to 3d is a nice bridge in tech until more 3d is available.

So far I haven't noticed any eye strain or head aches.  No adverse effects whatsoever.

Will they fix shader 3.0 first?

SoE made some huge mistakes with their graphics engine when designing EQ2. It was based on the current trends and expectations of computer hardware in the future. I think its hard for them to change much with the engine without completely redoing it.

They are probobly just looking for anything they can do to it at this point.

I will agree that EQ2 seems to be all over the map though. I personally think its because they want to please the players so much, they just put anything in the game.

They have the opposite philosophy of WoW. Blizz seems to study and plan everything for years before they even consider adding it to the game. SoE just says "What? People want that? ok here it is, want that too? ok here it is!" ultimately it's created a game that feels like it lacks any real structure and just feels sloppy.

I'll tell you right now 3dvision is WAAAAY better than any movie I've ever seen in 3d.   I've more than once tried to catch snow flakes in my hands while wearing the glasses.. jumped back when a monster flashed onto screen.  I hate 3d movies but I love my 3dvision.  When done right it's amazing.  On the other hand not every game does it right.  For example Aion is in the "great" catagory.. it's meh at best.  While wow is in "Excelent" and it really impresses.  First time I heard that they implemented 3d.. could really add to the game.  I'll might try it out. Maybe it'll get me past the meh graphics.

3D is just another example of hype & marketting.

The Movie industry is grasping at it like a life raft thinking ti will somehow stop their piracy issues, when they should instead consider that their revenues are increasingly down due to the uptake of home theatre  and the downturn in the quality of service and cleanliness of cinemas.

I know some PS3 game publishers are being forgiven for rather crap games simply because they are in 3D and not many 3D titles are available as yet.

Nice why dont thay make a game that uses a heck of alot of system resources,

add 3D then you end up useing twice the system resource to run it,

Seeming 3D gaming is basicly running the game twice at the same time so you get the double vision affect and the shuttering basicly flips between screens at 60hz per eye.

SOE should leave off with the 3d crap for EQ2 and insead make the game engine work better for multicore processors, performamce and "popin" in eq2 is horrible for modern pc's.  whoever @ SOE that made the decision to plan ahead for HUGE single cores when building the game should be shunned, hard. However i doubt SOE will attempt it .

Remember all the hype and promise they pitched back when they were talking shader 3? shader 3 is half implemented and poorly optimised and seems to have fallen to te wayside as many "big soe idea" do.

I have a 3d setup and really like it. Wow, War and G&H are very nice in 3D. It almost seems you are playing another game.

If you like graphics then you should like 3D. And I can play for hours with out any problems, today graphics cards can support it, and thie likes of WoW runs at 50fps in 3D.

It is better for your eyes as well, as eyes are not designed to stare at 2D images for extended periods, as they only move left to right when viewing 2D images. It is of course more natural to view things in 3D and the eyes move (focus)both in and out as well as left and right. This has a tendency to make you more tired as the eyes are working more, but that again is natural.

I know that some people cannot handle 3D visions ie they get headaches and such but if you can then it much much nicer, graphics wise and more healthy, a win win situation !

The cost is not that higher either, I brought my first 20" LCD for £600 from Iyamma, recently i got a Samsung 23" 120GHz monitor and the glasses for £360. Of course things will drop in price as did LCD monitors in general but they are still wholly affordable now to the discerning gamer.

I cant stand EQ2's graphics on normal, I sure don't want to see that mess in 3D o.O

Why do they put work in stuff like this instead of finally fixing up those new character models they promised 5 years ago?

3D is just another stupid fad, and it isn't the first time Hollywood have tried to push it down our throats, it is the third.

As long as we must have glasses the whole thing is a waste of time that could be put into better stuff, who wears bulky glasses whle playing a MMO for such long time beside people who really must?

If someone makes a screen that can handle 3D without glasses we start to talk, not to mention virtual reality but this is just a waste of time that could be used better. Heck, the GFX engine is still unoptimized and the game laggs in a few zones while runs great in others. That is stuff that needs fixing, not the lack of fluff like this that only a few players will use and even less of them for a longer period.

I'd be more excited by a semi intelligent AI over 3D graphics awesomeness.

I always wondered why there wasn't a project like cleverbot but for fantasy rpg worlds... it doesn't seem like it would require as much effort as a fully functional cleverbot because it would be limited to fantasy realms.

SOE should force their money into multicore support and removing the easymode, instead adding a fucking worthless feature like "3D". I started EQ2 on release. Im not playing it anymore, cause it became too casual.

SOE now thinks, they get new Player/old Player, adding a 3D-Feature? C'on SOE! Even you cant be so stupid! Remember Vanilla EQ1 (along with RoK and SoV). Its not about the Graphic or shit, why Peoples play, its cause of the Content!

VSoH? Even that got fucked by SOE... Fantastic Graphic, brilliant Story. They Released it in early Beta and fucking lost it. WHY?! VSoH could be the "real" 2nd part of EQ1, but you shit on it.

    BACK TO THE ROOTS!

It's because they have zero interest in doing anything that won't translate into more $$$ for them in the short term. They hop from trend to trend to trend, from bandwagon to bandwagon to bandwagon as fast as they can identify them, because they want a piece of the $$$ going around.

I guess SM3 wasn't proving "profitable enough" for them in terms of bringing more people into the game, so they probably said "eh... forget that", and instead focused on the next big $$$ thing. Right now it's 3D tech. When the novelty wears off on that and they find it's not quite the profit maker they thought it would be... they'll leave that behind and jump onto the next passing $$$ bandwagon.

That's all EQ2 has become and has been for a while now; an ever-morphing, schizophrenic mess of a game.

I used to love EQ2 up through around Echoes of Faydwer. But even then I could see them losing their focus with the game.

Such screens are already in existance but it will proberbly be several years before they are widly available . What we see now with the current tech really is 3d home entertainment in its infancey . Think of it like the huge mobile phones of the 80s . Its really not fad . Its not going to disapear . 3D has been a fad in the past but what we are seeing now is obviously to anyone with any sence that its gone  way beyond a fad . Look at how many movies are being produced in 3D , the first 3D hand held console has already been released (no glasses needed there ), there are 3D tv channels now  as well.  I agree the kind of 3d( and virtual reality )your talking of is very desirable but I'm not stupid enough to think it will happen overnight. The tech will evolve now its become widly available .

  • how can you even say 3d is on the downtrend when it hasn't even trended yet due to high prices?  I've known they could make 3d tv's for many many years though nobody believed me, then they finally did it and nobody can yet afford them; same with video games; most normal people won't even consider anything 3d at home until the equipment gets much cheaper

*sighs* Why is it that modern day games developers seem to mainly focus on graphics as opposed to lore, gameplay and innovation? Just because a game looks great on the outside, doesn't mean its great on the inside. /facepalm

Maybe SOE should invest in better 2d games and not some short lived fashion hype? Just an idea...

I have a question for the author.  The EQ2 graphics engine was developed to place most of the graphics load on the CPU.  At that time the developers believed that cpu technology would move toward faster core speeds.  They figured within 5 years, everyone could run the game in its full graphical glory.  This is not the case, simply because core clock speeds did not speed up as expected.

Because of this,  EQ2 still depends on the CPU to generate its graphics.  Even with a reasonably fast system, the framerates lag.  Given this fact, what has SOE done to change the graphics engine so that it runs at 120 fps to support the Nvidia 3d?  I cannot ever think of a time when I got those kinds of framerates on EQ2.

    So what has changed?

SOE needs to just step back and evaluate them selves.   They have become the master of cheap graphics.  Ever sense they hooked up with Soga [seriously did somebody in the Sony family marry in with them?] I have seen Soga's ugly muddy pallet and taint all over the place even though they deny it.   SOE needs to just chuck the junk and make a decent game with a new game engine.   I mean seriously all they make is crappy looking stuff now and they think this 3-d hype is going to help?    By 2013 they will be selling their crap for less than $10 if they can even unload it.  Just IMO of course =D
