How is Vanguard doing today?

snoockysnoocky Member UncommonPosts: 726

With the price is going down with Sony's station pass, I was wondering: How is the population these days?

Long ago I tried it but was getting stuck by the small population...

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

The Population can't be any better now. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the game gets discontinued at some point in 2011, maybe early 2012. No I do not have a source for that.

hop on the Isle of Dawn, get into world chat, find an active guild. that will provide you with most of the socialization you will ever need. as of a month ago Twylighte Song was the current busy one for newbies and advanced players.

Depending on how long ago you played the population problem might have actually been worse back then because the population was split over multiple servers. Now there's two, but only one really as the european server has been mostly abandoned. So, population isn't great but it's concentrated on the one server now and the Island of Dawn starting location has concentrated the starting players together. I joined Twighlyte Song and have found plenty of people on at all the hours I'm playing. However I would say that players who want to just play one character and aren't interested in crafting or diplomacy are probably going to get frustrated at times. You can't always find people interested in doing what you want to do so you have to do something else or switch to an alt. But it's a big world with lots to do so it's not surprising that people do get spread out. I've seen plenty of new or returning players lately, but then you never know how many are leaving so it's hard to know what the actual player population is doing.

The server to join is Telon. There are plenty of low level folks/returning players to make finding a group not that big of a hassle.  Like any game just because you stick your lfg flag on and 10 other people do as well a group doesn't get formed unless someone takes the initiative and forms one.

Devs have stated the game is going to be getting some updates in the very near future.

Oh and best bet it to join a guild plenty of guilds recruiting atm.

The game was never meant for pvp it was an afterthough like 99% of MMO's out there today with a pvp server.  If the game isn't initially setup for pvp it will fail to hold players who enjoy that kind of playing.  The last real MMO i enjoyed pvp in was DAOC even WoW's pvp failed to hold me since it was poorly done.

This is however the best PvE game on the marke (in my eyes).

Um ... why is PvP mentioned ? Nobody mentioned PvP before.

And its bad PvP is not really the core problem of Vanguard.

If I would be asked to improve Vanguards PvP, I would first simply give player PvP hitpoints like they have in Lineage 2. These are only used if you have a PvP going on with another player and give everyone about as many hitpoints as a mob of their level and class would have, thus making it impossible to kill other players with a single button as its apparently possible in Vanguard.

Of course there would be a lot more involved than just that, but I think thats the main element missing.

Also, PvP needs to be some kind of meaningful, i.e. there needs to be real goals, not just simple banditery (attacking others in order to get their money).

Vanguards classes are very interesting, I would even say the best ideas I have played in any mmo although the graphics are like cutting onions.

I have to laugh at that back during beta we actually had pvp servers.  I don't know why you would say it was never meant for pvp.   There was tons of it in beta.  There was even several servers at one time that were pvp, but those have been since closed due to lack of population.    I was on one of those pvp servers,  now having been moved to the last one left standing.

Population is still very small. You can join a guild to try and remedy it, but the fact still remains that the game population is still shrinking. The station pass price is a steal so if you have that then I say why not. VG is not promised updates based on Naylie's post but no one knows at this points. I'll believe it when I see it (as most people are currently taking it as).

at present on Telon Server mostly 250-300 people in total are online most of the time

Here is the average breakup of numbers which i generally see (give an take + - 5)

    lvl 1-10  -----   45-50

    lvl 11-20 -----   35-40

    lvl 21-30 -----   20-25

    lvl 31-40 -----   20-25

    lvl 41-50 -----  20-25

    lvl 51-55  ----  110-130

Joining a good guild like 'Twighlyte Song' will solve most of the poplulation issues..Most of the new players are joining that and it has mostly 35 + players online most of the time spread across different levels(mostly initial and mid level characters)

I don't believe its shrinking at all. It's growing. For new players what you should keep in mind is that you while there may be 25 players currently in your level range, many people (myself included) have toons at all levels and are likely to jump on comments for lower level dungeon crawls. So you are really drawing from a larger player pool than the /who command leads you to believe.
