Zombie Survival MMO ideas! your opinions?

Zombies, they are in almost every mmo it seems like. They are either an enemy you fight or a race you play as. Left 4 Dead is a video game where you and 3 friends blast your way from checkpoint A to B while blowing zombies heads off on the way. Amnesia the dark decent is a survival horror FPS where there is bassically no shooting. You hide and sneak and try to survive. The Walking Dead, a popular series about a zombie apocolypse. The survivors in the show use whatever they can find to survive and kill zombies and protect each other. With all this said, imagine if you will a MMORPG where you are a survivor in a zombie outbreak. I mean this as a SURVIVAL not a l4d mmo. Each server could have a massive world that has a lot of cities and towns. Each world hold only a few handful of players that must find each other and survive together. Because it's survival there would be little resources. Players would use whatever they can grab onto as a weapon. Maybe they search a police station for guns and a hospital for first aid and maybe a WalMart type store for food. Players would need to eat rest drink (use restrooms). Maybe after a gun shot or bumping into a car and it's alarm gos off Zombies swarm into the sound. Players would need to find shelter, maybe in the hardware store so they can board up the doors and windows until the zombies leave? There would be no respawns, after you die you have to play on a different server (so it'd be like youre really dead) players could die of starvation or falling too far or breaking something while running or being stabbed. But if a player was bit by a zombie other players could choose to let him live and turn to a zombie (player would really turn to zombie but player wouldn't be in control) or players could choose to shoot the bit person in the head so not to worry about zombification ( i don't know what to say lol, zombified? ) Why would players choose to let them live? well maybe they could find the super rare cure? or maybe the bit person wasn't bit so bad that it wouldn't be a while until zombified? or maybe even so that the other players can say good bye because in this world players would only see each other and would maybe become close friends (exchange emails etc. because the bit player wouldn't be allowed on that server anymore.) ? Zombies could be fast flesh eating zombies that beat the hell outa you before takin a bite? they could be slow zombies taht are somewhat strong and can overpower players to get a bite? either way headshot makes them forever dead! This is my random Zombie Survival MMO ramblings lol i thought i'd share the idea! if someone could make this game i would love them dearly :) btw it's an open world environment! What do ya'll think???

    Huge wall of text!

    Next time try paragraphs perfhaps.

Not going to lie, I didn't read all of that but I do like the idea.  I think it could work as a free to pay mmo.  No leveling, maybe you get more stuff for the longer you stay alive doing quests or missions.  Heck I dont know but I like the overall idea.

Would be a great idea, but pretty hard to execute effectively. I'd definetely buy it just to try it as long as Funcom or Cryptic didn't make it!

Is it just zombies or are there other frights out there lurking in the dark?

We are not re-skinning orcs and calling it a zombie game. At its heart, the zombie genre is about survival in the face of societal collapse and the complexities of human relationships in the face of dwindling resources. That is the experience we hope to recreate, so don’t expect to encounter 20-foot boss zombies, mutated Werebears, or emo vampires.

That said, the greatest enemy in any apocalypse scenario is often our fellow survivors.

Just as in the world today, most people are basically cool, but a few can be real douchebags. The zombie apocalypse would probably amplify those personality traits further, drawing a clear line between people who have your back, and people who would be happy to stab your back. While the fundamental conflict is “humans vs. zombies”, you can bet we’ll be working in the human conflict as well.

    good lord OP, paragraphs much?

that wall of text literally made me uncontrollably scroll down to get away from it. Please have someone you know read that and ask them if they feel dumber afterward.

In response to that ridiculous 564 sentence paragraph..i would say this might have some merit. It would almost seem like you would want to make a sandbox game with only one life, resources that could be gathered, group participation required and critical thinking needed. I'm all for it.  Please don't make the pdf instruction guide one large paragraph, otherwise I will just have to wing it.

    Good luck with that.

    Holy great wall of text!

Good idea but a "Few handful of players"?  Just make it a co op game where people can set up a ton of servers and stuff like that o.o

Thats my opinion.  Along with "please for the love of all that is right and just! Use paragraphs T_T"

Wall of text.  I didn't read it, but I still have to comment because I'm a HUGE zombie fan.

I don't know how they could do a zombie MMO and make it a long term game.  You've got to have an objective, a challenge, and end goal.  What is that for a zombie game?  Well, usually it's survival, and if not, it's not even fun.  The best zombie games have been serious.

First off, a big feeling for a zombie thing is feeling alone and out numbered, vulnerable.  A "massively multipler" game could very well ruin this feeling and it would turn into a killing fest, especially if the kiddies got their hands on the game, which they would.  It would have to be limited to a select few number of players depending on how large the world was so you didn't bump into survivors or real players very often.

Second, you'd need to survive.  That is the biggest draw to the zombie appocalypse.  You don't have an armory to fight them with.  You're running out of food and water.  You have to maintain your shelter without a maintanance man to call on the phone.  You need supplies, but where can you find them and how can you get to them with those things?  What kinds of items could be essential needs in the game, and how could you make that enjoyable to find, to scavenge?

What kind of victories could you have in the game that made players want to keep playing and keep striving for that next victory?

I just don't think there is enough to do.  It would be fun for people for their first survival experience.  After that, there wouldn't be a reason to play anymore.   Most people keep playing MMORPGs because they want that next piece of gear, or they want to beat that next boss.  You don't really have either of those in a zombie game.  Survive, rescue, find a cure.  I can't think of anything else you'd want or need to do in a zombie appocalypse.
