Hello,
I am desperately seeking a new game to play. I was an old school DAOC player and played WoW in its "glory days". I am looking for a game that mainly has a high playerbase, solid gameplay mechanics and world pvp. High end graphics are nice but not a necessity for me, I would much rather have great control over my toon then watch "sparkly" spells flash across my screen.
I was playing Rift until they implemented the Dungeon finder system virtually killing off all world pvp. I started playing Faxion and like it, but the playerbase is not there to make a pvp game like that enjoyable enough to force me to grind to max level.
It doesn't matter if it is p2p or f2p, I don't want a point and click movement mechanic (unless you can disable it) and I really like the 3rd person playstyle.
Please point me to my next game until GW2 comes out.
Thank you,
Tig

Doesn't exist to my knowledge alas. I think half of us on this forum are in the same 'can't find a decent game to tide us over till the goodies arrive' mood! Wow is dead, long live the wow. Rift beta did it in for me, it had an instant saccharine, McDonald's feel to it, shiny effort on the engine with none of the pzazz of the giants whose shoulders it was cobbled together on. I think the people making half these games are taking a 'test audience' generic, lazy attitude to what immerses a person in a game in my opinion. I hope taking a safe approach will hit their profits soon so we can start playing games made by bright sparks prepared to take a risk and push the genre forward to the next stage. I live in hope.
I think you've more or less already covered the good ones. You tried LOTRO? Not so bad at all, there's some limited pvp which I never tried in a year of play. Don't expect anything violently new from it, besides a storyline that carries you through the game nicely and you can grow to care about if you read them. Oh, if you do give it a go at least get out of the awful starting zones, that's what turns most people off in my experience.
Picked up EQ2 f2p recently after running for the hills within a week of release all those years ago. It's not bad for an oldy, the character models are flipping amazing considering and the graphics are very scaleable - awful on low, impressive on high but may grind your GC to a crawl, apparently there's pvp but I haven't come across it yet. Quests are fairly standard but it's bloody huge and there's a lot of depth to the game, too much sometimes when you're starting off new.
I tried virtually everything else currently out and other than the one's I mentioned, it's barricade the doors till GW2 or something else comes along I'm afraid.
Might have to stick with shooting game then. Call of duty, battlefield, and such.

Dude I would honestly check out Age of Conan if I were you.
Reasons why:
1. World PVP that rewards you on new servers
2. Siege battles
3. Great graphics and art style
4. growing population now that the game is f2p
I am happy with how the game is now..
Give it a shot
I did give it a shot, the combat system doesn't feel fun to me.

ya, honesty im a huge Vanguard fan, but from what you've listed i think AOC f2p might be just the thing for you until GW2.
and start a character on the new FFA PVP server. the starter isle even has 2 FFA areas in it.

Try GW1, u can earn nice things for GW2 via achievements in GW1
+1
another good suggestion but to get the rewards you need the Eye of the North xpac. not sure if it's standalone or not.

Hey all thank you for the suggestions.
I was a beta baby for aoc. Enjoyed it until I got to max level and had nothing to do. I quit for awhile and came back after they promised it was better and was still disappointed. I might give it a go again now that it is F2p because the playerbase should sky rocket.
I had the highest of hopes for Vanguard, when the original company had the reins of the project. They were promising everything that needs to be in an mmo for it to be close to perfect. Then they went belly up and the evil SOE took it over and did nothing with it except take our monthly subs.
In regards to sticking with a fps game, I am drooling at all the info they are releasing for BF3. Can't wait!
I guess my best hope is to keep my ear to the ground and watch these game developers and hope to find a diamond in the rough.
