PC- runescape, diablo 2/LOD
Yeah, FFIX was the greatest FF ive palyed next to ff7. FFIX had one of the greatest stories of any video game and great gameplay.
FFX was fun, but the story was horrible.
Hands down Chrono Trigger. I just started playing the ROM again once Dek reminded me how much I want to replay it.
Call me pansy, But super mario RPG was a great RPG that deserves a DS update.

Ultima 7. End of discussion
Kiamde, go grab Tales of Phantasia for your snes emu. It has a unique combat system and a great story.
I have my hands full with Chrono Trigger at the moment, but I will be sure to check it out later.

Crono cross was alright. But i still think the best rpg was FFIX, if you havent yet played it, go get it now!
Final Fantasy(All of them except II and VIII)
Breath of Fire(All of them)
Chrono Trigger (NOT CHRONO CROSS, I HATE THAT GAME)
Xenogears(Xenosaga sucked)
Legend of Legia(The combat system sucked me in)
Tales of Phantasia
Ultima(All of them)
Legend of Zelda(Almost all of them. The game Link was garbage)
Does Legend of Zelda count or does it have to be a traditional RPG, with leveling up and turn based combat?
Those are are my favorite RPG's that I can think of at the moment.
Ultima
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy 7
(There was this one for sega genesis that I loved playing but I cant remember the name of it. It ended with a *Force* I believe.)
Older stuff
FF (the Original, was a ground breaking game that I think pushed the consoles into what they are today), Dragon Warrior IV.
Newer stuff
FF Tactics (best FF ever!!!!!), Gladius, Baldur's Gate (II sucked), Star Ocean (eighty endings?!? How can you go wrong?) Icewind Dale II, Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (gotta have the game guide with this one, otherwise you will end up lost for days!! Literally), GTA: San Andreas (Not labeled as a RPG, but you build up your skills as you go, and what you do affects your game so I would say it's an RPG)

Mario RPG was cool.
My all time fav was FF2, followed closely by Chrono Trigger, and I thought you weren't a fan of ROMs Kiamde.
If anyone has a snes emu, grab the tales of phantasia rom.
You wont be dissapointed
Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, Baldur's Gate Series, Fallout series, Would the Gothic series be considered classic? I guess that's it.

Going back a ways I enjoyed all the Ultima games..
But on PC Id have to say Fallout 1 and 2... I know they arnt that old yet... but they are certainly classic

Game that got me into MMORPGs was Ultima
If Zelda is cosidered an RPG (which it isnt, with the exception of Zelda II) I'd say Ocarina of Time.
But for REAL RPGs my favorite would have to be Final Fantasy IX or Diablo 1.
When Harlee left the team, it made me want to cry..
[12:38am] <+steve> don't speak of tampons in a channel like this
The DragonLance trilogy, from Champions of Krynn to The Dark Queen of Krynn(without forgetting Death Knights of Krynn).
I recall whole fights, whole battles...and it have been what, 17 years since I play those battles?
On an Amiga of course!

Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV, VI, VII and Tactics, Breath of Fire serie, Tales of Phantasia, Lunar serie, Fire Emblem serie. I also liked BG: Dark Alliance style games even if they're more like hack'n'slash games with AD&D Ed. 2 or 3 rules.
On a more present note, Neverwinter Nights remains my favorite PC RPG. You can do almost anything with that game provided you know a good persistent world or you are a modder yourself.
Gideon, your thinking of The Shining Force (I and II). Both were for sega genesis and both were awesome
But in my opinion you cant beat FF7. Revolutionary for its time, still brings a tear to the eye after the demise of a particular character, just an all around awesome game.
Other include: the other FF's, Chrono trigger, xenogears, diablo 2 (no it was not only multiplayer, there is a single player mode), and many others that i cant remember.
