Are there any pvp mmos worth playing right now? I'm bored.

lightingbirdlightingbird Member Posts: 103

Hey all,

I'm bored.  I've played so many mmo's but I really love the pvp geared ones.  I was going to try out Rift since they have the $5 deal going but you still have to pay for the first month.  Then after doing some research, I found out it is a poorly made pve mmo.  So as of right now, I am playing nothing but occasionally running around in WW2Online.  Which is a good game, but I die too much and I'm not sure I see myself investing time into it.   So can anyone recommend a pvp mmo to me?  Keep in mind, I'm seeking a pvp mmo, not a pve one.  No, I do not want to play a pve mmo and go to a pvp server or arenas,  just strickly a pvp geared mmo.

Over the years, I've tried the following pvp mmo's.

Dark Age of Camelot

Aion

Age of Conan

Warhammer

APB Reloaded (err is this a mmo? Not sure)

Planetside

Eve Online

I think that's it.  I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them all.  Right now, I'm waiting on guild wars2 and knights of the old republic.  Although, I'm not sure if Knights of the old republic will be considered a pve or pvp mmo.  Noone knows for sure yet.  Either way, I plan on playing that.

So any tips?  (Also, please understand I am not seeking any pve mmo recommedations)

Just give AOC a go...they released a new PVP server :)

You tried the new hardcore server ruleset that was just released a few days ago?   That's what the poster was referring to.

Anyhow, I don't see Darkfall on your list, that's supposedly the most hardcore PvP MMO on the market right now.

Global Agenda is excellent if simplistic (good F2P model also, so no harm in trying).

SWTOR will be mainly a PvE MMO by the standards you're using.  The vast majority of the content is story-based PvE, so I wouldn't wait for that.  Planetside 2 was just announced and should a PvPer's heaven.

Bloodline Champions is a pure PvP game, but i think it's instanced team PvP, not open world.

ALso, wherever you got your research on Rift, you may want to double-check that.  It's true that it's more of a PvE MMO, but not even it's harshest detractors have called it poorly made.  It's possibly the most polished and solidly put together MMO ever released.  Not to say it's great, just that it's definitely not poorly made.

DARKFALL, it can be FFA but most of the time its group vs group or clan vs clan

Rift does have good graphics and the tools for dungeons and battlegrounds are great, very easy to find others to play with.

    BUT

there is next to no challenge when playing the game as you can create one button super macros that do the entire job for you and you still can be as good if not better than someone who refuses to use the macros. Skill level on this game is lower than WOW.

With that being said I still do enjoy the game but if you want a challenge Rift is not the place to be looking.

I heard about the new server on AOC but I'm not intersted.  The overall game just wasn't good for me so I'll pass on it.  Regarding SWTOR, I post over on the forums a lot and noone knows for sure if it will have a open pvp world at end game.  Which defines if a mmo is pve or pvp usually.  I'm hoping it will.  When I said Rift was poorly made, I meant that its too easy and lacks character.  I was in the beta and I was not impressed.  Sure it looks nice and the concept is cool but its just too easy.  Not to mention, its a pve mmo and not pvp.  Which seems they are saying they might be opening up some sort of open world pvp at end game.  I've seen that said on a few forums so its probably just a unbacked rumor.

Anyway, I will look into Darkfall.  I have never tried that. I've heard good and bad about it.

    1. Global Agenda is very fun PvP -- Someone said GA is simplistic, I would agree that it is simple as far as how many abilities you have to use, there is not a lot there.  But I disagree on simplistic because the pace of the game is very frenetic and you have to fight and react very quickly.  Just speaking for myself but after playing GA for awhile every other PvP game I play feels like super slow motion afterward.  War, Conan, DaoC, all of them are like slow motion compared to how GA's pace is.

    2. World of Tanks is overall verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry fun game and also purely PvP

    3. League of Legends is a good PvP arena as well but the games take a bit more time than the above two, usually need to be sure you have a full 45 minutes to hour and half set aside to play a game

SWTOR's pvp is gonna be Instanced and open world, no auto attack combat, and you can level from it.  Even though the games core element would be story telling PVE.  Anywho, If your not in the mood to wait for it id try global agenda,  new aoc server,  or  League of legends if you enjoy that style of gameplay.

I'm going by your own definition.  SWTOR is likely to be as much PvP as Rift is, probably less.  Rift has open world pvp on all servers.  The difference with PvP servers is that you don't have to flag for it (i think).

I played Rift for beta and a couple of months on launch and at virtually every single zone event in the latter zones, there was pvp going on in the middle of the event.  It still doesn't make it a "pvp mmo" in my estimation, but it does fit yoru criteria of "having open world pvp".   To me a PvP MMO is where the majority (or at least 50%) of the content is designed with PvP in mind.  Neither Rift nor SWTOR will fit that criteria.  AoC or EVE would.

I could come over to your place and we could beat each other with sticks.  Is that PVP enough? Otherwise, I would second the suggestion for World ot Tanks.  Also Crimecraft...maybe you should do your own research...you know..only you know what your gonna like. I mean we could fire off names of games all day...with you going...nah, no, nah nope, not interested.   IDK maybe give some of the games you have played a second swing?

Mortal Online i believe was one of those greifer freindly games like darkfall you might wanna try.

@arieste Noone knows what the pvp aspect will be like in SWTOR.  Noone knows.  As I said before, on their offical forums the devs have hinted at there being a open world at end game in which you can fight over planets, cities, and other stuff.  Which would make it a pvp mmo.  But as I keep saying, noone knows as of yet.

I'll check out global agenda, league of legends, along with Darkfall.  Those three have been mentioned a lot in this thread.

Also, I tried world of tanks and found it boring.

You also realize that you don't have to respond to this thread either, right? I'll never understand why people feel the need to patrol posts on a forum.  I'm taking a few ideas that have been mentioned so far.

My personal answer is there is no PvP MMO worth playing right now.

Thing is.. that's just my perspective and doesn't mean its a fact for everyone.

Reading the OP and some of the replies... to me it looks like it would be about the same conclusion for you.   I've gone through all the free trials I could of games I used to play and I uninstall them just as fast.   Tho I did log on to the new AoC server and I'll admit.. the global chat there certainly inspires you to want ot kill people...

I'm doing Global Agenda right now... The PvP is great. Well made maps, fast paced, and balanced for the most part.

Just do yourself a favor and buy Mount & Blade: Warband. Play that with the cRPG or another persistant world mod and you will definitely be held over until GW2.

Actually, it wouldn't make it a PvP MMO, it would make an MMO that has PvP areas.  LoTRO is a game that has PvP areas, Rift is a game that has PvP areas, EQ2 is a game that has PvP areas.  None of these games would be considered "pvp games".  What is KNOWN about SWTOR is that there is 200 hours of PvE content and that nothing has been confirmed about PvP.  You have to be completely naive and know absolutely nothing about SWTOR or the MMO industry to believe that there will be a PvP component to the game that is equally or more significant than those adverstised 200 hours of PvE gameplay.  If there was, BioWare would certainly be advertising.  As it stands, there is an unknown factor about whethere there will be some PvP areas or an optin for open world pvp-flagging system such as in Rift.  By your own definition, Rift - despite have open world pvp - is not a "pvp game", so it is KNOWN, that by that same defintion, SWTOR will not be either.

Anyhow.. that'll be my last post on the subject, you keep contradicting your own defintions of what you want, so it's kinda stupid of me to keep arguing when you don't even know what a "pvp game" is.

Since mmorpg.com has decided to change the definition of mmo to include League of Legends I would recommend that for pvp.

I'm waiting on Guild Wars 2 and Planetside 2. Filling the time inbetween with Team Fortress 2 and The Witcher 2.

Ha WoW is NOT a pvp mmo.

Anyway, I installed Darkfall and made a charafter.  The game looks great with the graphics maxed out.  Althought there is one problem.  It is dead!  Ha there is barely anyone on.  I'm going to keep giving it a try but I hope some more people log on.  It appears to have a very low population.  I'm going to try global agenda next.
