Melee Warrior Priest & melee DoK
I started leveling a melee WP. I generally don’t play a healer class, but I do like the idea of beating the crap out of someone with a giant hammer.
The WP class has a melee option so I thought I would go down that road.
The I started reading the boards and noticed the hate for melee WP’s. One comment regarding melee WP and DoK was…
DoK = dps
WP = lol
I asked in Order “advice” channel about the melee WP and discussions quickly turned into a WP = fail DPS discussion, with people laughing all the way.
So I stopped, rolled a character on the Destruction side (different server) and stated playing. My Destruction character is now level 14.
At the beginning of this week, in the “advice” channel, peeps on the Destruction side started talking classes on the Order side they hate to fight.
I was very surprised to hear Destruction players talking about melee Warrior Priests with comments as “beasts on the field”, & “I hate fighting them”. One ganker even said that when they see a WP solo in a ORvR area they will usually just let him go, cause he would rather not mess with it.
Ok, that’s just one night…
Then two nights ago different people were chatting and the WP / DoK comparison came up. Destruction players were showing tons of respect for the melee WP. Destruction players were saying that they ARE a mirror to the DoK regarding DPS, with some varying mechanics.
So the perspective is…
Order loves hating on the melee WP.
Destruction shows a lot of respect for the melee WP.
Could it be that Order players just expect the WP to heal?
(after all they are a very good healing class).
Is just possible that the melee WP is very viable in PvP Warhammer Online?
(will ppost on WHonline boards also)

Yeah you pretty much got it right. People will bitch and moan when a WP doesnt play pocket healer for them, when in reality a well played WP will usually out DPS most of the people crying about it, and still manage to keep their whole group alive through melee heals and a few group heals thrown in.
One thing that people still sadly havent learned yet is how to fight alongside a WP. They will move away from the WP chasing random useless targets like front line tanks, instead of standing shoulder to shoulder with the WP and just mowing enemy warbands over while basking in the glory of their melee AoE heals. They also havent yet learned that a melee WP who is caught in the middle of fighting multiple enemies isnt going to be sitting there staring at your health bar and tossing heals on you when you need them, they already have their hands full. Your best bet is to stay as close to the WP as you can and get some of those AoE heals and hope that the WP will realize "hey this guy is actually helping me fight, not running around like an asshat. ill throw my divine assault on him when he needs it". Divine Assault / Rend Soul = instant full health for most people unless theyr egetting focus fired pretty badly.
My bro and i have spent a lot of time working together as a 2 man melee WP & melee DoK team. Theres been plenty of times where the 2 of us alone can sit there and keep 1/2 a warband+ of enemies camped and they cant do shit to get rid of us because we stick together making use of our melee heals on eachother and when 1 of us gets FFed we both heal the one getting FFed, then after 5 minutes trying to kill one of us they try to switch their FFing to the other, and we just switch our heals and laugh away.
The DPS Warrior Priest is a very good class, but the DPS Disciple of Khaine is even better. And as people like to compare to mirror classes for viability, the DPS Warrior Priest quickly becomes "sucky", even though its only flaw is that its not quite as good as the DoK.
In healing it's the other way around, so that quickly becomes the only "viable" option for a WP.
Bottomline: if you don't care about faction at all and just want a self-healing DPSer, pick the DoK. If you really prefer playing Order, pick the WP and you'll still have a very good time
If you're not pocket healing XxXDeMoNsKuLXxX who tries to "pwn nubs" by run....
lemme correct that. If you choose not to pocket heal but DPS, heal and get killed (like people in the front line usually do) anyone you don't know will hate you.
This streches as far as getting flamed because you carry a hammer or two swords.
People expect you to be a pocket healer.
That's why your own faction bitches about DPS specs on their healers.
And that's why you shouldn't give a crap.
When I played WAR, I healed when people on my buddylist asked me nicely. Everyone else could crash and burn with their "oh goody a WP let's chaaaarge"-attitude.
